Fear And Loathing In The Maine GOP

My brother, a delegate chair, met with the Secretary of the Caucus of his town. This was a few days ago.

The Secretary and my brother talked about delegate information for about 15 minutes. As they were talking, a gentleman walked in, pulled up a chair, and sat down.

The Secretary introduced the man to my brother. My brother recognized the man....he holds a high office in the GOP in my brother's county.

After some small chit chat....this is the conversation that took place......keep in mind....neither the Secretary nor the GOP official knew that my brother was a Paul supporter.......

GOP Official: So, you're the guy who's going to be collecting delegates huh?

Brother: That's Right.

GOP Official: You know they're really worried about the state convention.

Brother: What do you mean?

GOP Official: You know, that they're going to hijack this thing.

Brother: What do you mean hijack? What are you talking about?

GOP Official: You know, the Ron Paul People. They're going to hijack the convention.

Brother: Really?

GOP Official. Yea...We're very concerned. They can hijack the state convention, and win the whole thing.

Brother: Wow...Really? You're that concerned huh?

GOP Official: Oh yeah. They have me setting up other caucuses in the smaller towns to get the delegates.

Brother: Is that possible? The deadline is February 11th.
They're going to announce the tally.

GOP Official: It has nothing to do with the straw poll. We're not going to add them to the tally, its about getting delegates. You know, it has nothing to do with the straw polls right? It's all about the delegates. You know, I've been to all the Caucuses in the county and Ron Paul dominated them all....hands down.

Brother: Even the other caucus...in the next town over?

GOP Official: Yeah...I went to all of them. I talked to the Councilman. I know Ron Paul won the entire county.

Brother: Wow.

(then there was some more idle chit chat)

GOP Official: We need to do this to prevent the Paul supporters from hijacking the state convention. You know, they're going to increase security.

Brother: What are you expecting? You think they're going to riot?

GOP Official: No, not concerned about that. It's just that, you know, that Ron Paul people are very vocal.

Brother: I don't get it then...why the security? As long as they're being respectful, isn't it good to engage in dialogue?

GOP Official: Well, it's just they can be very vocal.

(GOP official then started talking about bylaws at the convention...but he kind of trailed off...and didn't finish his thoughts.)

The GOP official then started asking my brother personal questions.

GOP Official: Jim, I remember you from the Caucus.

Brother: Yeah...I remember you too.

The GOP official then looked out the window and saw my brother's car.

GOP Official: Jim, is that your car? The grey one? The one with the Ron Paul sticker?

Brother: Yes it is!

GOP Official: Wait, are you telling me that you are a Ron Paul supporter?

Brother: Yes I am!

The GOP Official then looked at the Secretary. They stared at each other for a few seconds. And then he looked down at the floor. Then there was silence...for about a minute.

The GOP Official then looked at my brother and said...

" You know, I don't have anything against Ron Paul or anything. It's just that his supporters, you know....

My brother then defended Paul supporters by saying that they are respectful, civil and totally engaged in the process. And that's what you want.

GOP Official...Well, its his views on the drug laws....

Brother: The war on drugs...the way it's set up...is not working. I have kids who can score drugs right around the block in this town. Why are you afraid to look at another philosophy?

The GOP official did not answer the question.

My brother then received a text from his wife...who was not feeling well. He told then GOP official and the Secretary that he had to leave. He wished them both a good day...and left.

END Keynesian Economics

A real end to Keynesiand theft by banksters.
A real end to preemptive wars.
A real end to liberalism and theocracy.
A real chance to NOT crash the currency
A real chance for free markets and prosperity.

Is this REALLY SO HARD to grasp?!

I need to stop drinking coffee before I gut some ignorant sheep.

Fear realized.

And this suprises you why?

You think this is a big revelation that can "bring down the GOP?"

very interesting--

are *these people* just uninformed and narrow-minded, or are they afraid of 'something'?

*these people*--the GOP officials

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Opportuinty Missed?

His wife is home sick....with three kids. My brother did the right thing.....he left the meeting.

With all my brother has going on, it's amazing he took on the responsibility of being a delegate chair.

Thanks bro! :)

Thank you for defending his decision...and for any who called into question his reason for leaving the meeting...the night of our caucus, I DID go to the emergency room as did his own mother. Both of us were still in sorry shape a day and a half later when this meeting took place. My husband, who had voluntarily been standing out in -20 degree weather for HOURS with his Ron Paul signs and handing out slim jims (the ONLY one in our ENTIRE town)for the last 2 months, would have stayed and talked about RP for hours, but thankfully, he is also a dedicated father, son and husband and I don't believe it's right to fault him for that.

I nominated him for delegate chair because some asshat Gingrich guy volunteered himself and when I heard that, I knew we needed someone for RP in that position instead. He graciously accepted the nomination and took on the job of securing the 5 delegates we lacked as well as more than a dozen delegate alternates. He also has to hunt down all of them to collect the delegate fees.

Disinfecting Sunlight

Weasels like this love to operate in the shadows. He knows what he's doing is dishonorable. Expose him. Put his name out there. Us internet-savvy Ron Paulians will take it from there. We'll shine some sunlight on what he's doing, and he will change course immediately. It will be a good, visible example to others in the Maine GOP that are doing similar unethical junk.

Can someone verify?

This is being posted on Facebook today.... Perhaps these are the ones in: "They have me setting up other caucuses in the smaller towns to get the delegates."...Could anyone verify?

I saw these on Blue Republican

Get in there! Bring friends. Read rules to prepare. Be delegates. Awesome.

An opportunity missed.

Too bad he voluntarily left the room.

Unless my wife was real sick and in an emergency situation, I would have kindly texted her back saying, "I'm in a meeting, be there as soon as I can," and then turned my phone off and dedicated as much time as possible to influencing these people, answering their questions, and winning them over.

It was an opportunity missed.

Obviously they felt awkward for a moment, but then they seemed to open up and want to communicate their feelings. Most of it probably just regurgitation of media talking points, "He's for prostitutes and heroin", etc.

Perhaps your brother can hook up with them again and hear them out, assuming these guys aren't sold out devils like are in high places in DC.

Challenge your brother to go meet with these officials again, maybe have lunch with them!! Win them over to our cause!

Opportunity Missed?

Wow, seems to me this guy is doing more than his fair share. Criticizing someone that is in the trenches as this man obviously is seems like a cheap shot to me.

I think he did a great job.

I often do the same thing. Just let people run their mouths.

It's about stealth...

Vote count integrity

I have contacted RonPaul2012 some time ago to advise them to put up a separate page where RP representatives from each precinct can upload into a video from each caucus count. I do not understand why they did not proceed with that approach knowing what happened in 2008.

This is why I think its wiser

to conceal your support for RP if you're going to be a delegate, especially a delegate chair. Play along, fain disgust and concern with them, gain their trust and infiltrate, then maybe wear a wire or something and bust these corrupt tyrants. Expose them to the world for the lying, cheating, morally bankrupt individuals that they are. He would have never said that if he knew beforehand that your brother was a supporter. I think it's naive to believe you can reason with them.

"The world is a dynamic mess of jiggling things, if you look at it right." - Richard Feynman

And take off the BUMPER

typical tyrant

The free market rewards those who serve others. Government disrupts that complex network of voluntary cooperation.

Everything that is wrong with government is embodied by this guy's total disregard for what other people want.

Used to call them Grits

back in the 60's. Redneck.

Wow ....

So awesome to hear this ..... the fact that Ron Paul is winning I mean.

Not surprising

Folks who've been with their county GOP a long time have good reason to be worried about Dr. Paul. Things have been done the same way, their way, in their county for a long time. Then comes along what they see as a cult of personality. Not only does this personality get them to vote, but he prompts them all to perform an entire party takeover, undermining their firewall.

They haven't taken the time to follow Dr. Paul's reasoning, because they feel they've done sufficient reasoning fair enough for the past few decades. It scares them that they may not have a monopoly on reason.

Look to states that were affected profoundly by the 2008 campaign. Iowa's new state chairman will likely be a Paulite. New Hampshire's was a Paulite until recently. Missouri almost had a coup at the 2008 convention. All of this is because we're injecting ourselves into the party, and that scares those who hold those positions now.

We're terrifying to them because we have the passion and numbers to put them out of their positions and take over the party they've been caretakers of for decades.

They don't hate Dr. Paul anywhere near as much as they hate us.

People and the Drug War!!!

I had a conversation about the drug war with my very very conservative 83 year old grandfather yesterday about this. I don't have much time so i'll just make 2 quick points.

I always bring up the fact that when things are sold on the black market, like drugs, violence usually accompanies it. I pointed out how bad it is that so many people are killed every year in the us and the 10s of thousands that are killed in Mexico..... You guys know the rest....

As for your friends in Maine, make sure you point out, that Ron Paul wants to give the states the power to make their own drug laws. So if Maine want's to have stricter laws on drugs, they can.

Silence Dogood IX

Which county?

Tell us more about your brother.

I'm guessing he didn't fit the image these guys had in mind of the typical Ron Paul supporter. Is your brother perhaps a long-time businessman who dresses neatly and has a few gray hairs on his head?

New Hampshire and Ecuador.

He's fairly clean cut

He is a typical middle age (41) guy... He worked in social services/non-profit but we just moved here about two years ago, so he isn't well known in the community. He wore jeans and a sweater to the meeting.

When Fascism goes to sleep, it checks under the bed for Ron Paul!

I just chuckled a little

at a thought about this thread.

Just think of it from the POV of that chairman and his helpers.
He's worrying and complaining that the RP people are everywhere, and they are winning, and he's wringing his hands about what to do about it, and how to stop them. And then he finds out that even the person he's sitting at the table with, and confiding his worries to, is also a RP supporter!
Ha ha!
They're everywhere!

I'll bet that guy is beside himself now. He might even become a RP man now, because once it gets to a certain point, there's no use in fighting it. You can't hold back the sands of time, and the winds of change.

Out This Guy

Why isn't your brother outing this guy's name?
People need to know who this is so his feet can be held to the fire by the "press."
(sorry if this was covered in comments below, I didn't read them all)

There's nothing to "out"

He's not doing anything illegal...he's trying to stack the delegates against Ron Paul just like we are trying to stack the delegates FOR Ron Paul. Now, if the VOTES are tampered with that's something different...

Well, it sounded like he was

Well, it sounded like he was planning or setting up small, out of the way caucuses in order to escape Ron Paul supporters. This implies that he would organize these on the down-low with only a few key anti-Paul people in the know. I did not sound like his plan was ethical, let alone legal. But, this is all just hearsay. I hope nothing shady like that goes on.
