Reassurance needed
Every time he says he'll cut $1 Trillion and especially when something goes by without any context about "looking at entitlements", it is CRITICAL, imo, that he not finish the sentence without adding "but I'm also the only one who will do all that without harming anyone who's currently dependent on the federal government for assistance".
I worry that when he says he plans to shrink government, look at entitlements, and "I'm the only one who's really going to make cuts", old folks and those on all sorts of public assistance get SCARED and think they'll be eating dog food or out in the street. They've been trained to fear that kind of mistreatment and they're tough to awaken, but we would help ourselves to reassure them we will work out of the dependency while we build new private safety nets and not abandon anyone.
And then say "And if you're frustrated with the status quo and see all these things I've described and predicted for over 20 years, I need you to come out and vote for me!"
