As my first post on DailyPaul, I would like to propose a new strategy

As we are all aware, the dear Dr. has not been doing as well as we have hoped. I believe it all comes down to the older generation. Most people in the 40+ demographic do not use the internet as we do. They don't share links. They don't know that youtube is more than just cat videos. They get their news and develop their opinions based off of the MSM. We need to reach them some other way.

We HAVE to capture some of the older demographic.

I have been trying to devise a way of doing this that is easy and cost effective. In an attempt to get something going on Reddit, I have been contacted by another reddit user, suzie61. This person has come up with the best idea yet:

The block of republican voters that aren't supporting Dr. Paul seem to not be active on the internet and still get their news from the TV. I decided that a letter would be a good way to reach these voters. Since the group includes many older voters I decided to mail letters anonymously to people from the phone book (these people still have home phones) as well as to people I know. This letter could also be used as handout literature. I tried to write it to target the issues that polls show are most important. Electability is at the top of this list so I framed it around that issue. Here's a link to view the 1st page of my letter: http://imgur.com/sur2Z and here is a link to the actual document that is downloadable if you would also like to use it.

Guys, this is it. We need more things like this. I know that I am definitely going to be mailing some of these next week. I think this might be even more effective than the Super Brochure because it's more personal and won't be seen as junk mail. BUT, the letter AND the Super Brochure together will produce more "RONVERTS" than anything else we do.

I think that if we ALL print off twenty copies of this or more this weekend and mail it to people we want to convince, or just random households, we can get a win for Dr. Paul.

It's time to stop spreading links between ourselves and get the word out to everyone else!

Great handout.

Great handout.

Good idea

dfbeav, I like your idea. I'd like to propose another. I suggested it on this forum before, but did not get any feedback (even negative!), which was disappointing. Please, guys, let me know what you think of this because I love RP and want to help.

This proposal is focused on dealing with "Israel Firster" politicians.

My proposal is to have large numbers of RP supporters attend public events or town halls of politicians who are notorious "Israel Firsters." Some of us would then ask the politician uncomfortable questions about their Israel-first voting record. The question will conclude with a emphatic request (demand?) that the candidate forswear all further "Israel-First" behavior. The candidate will be asked to clearly commit to this. Any response that falls short of this will immediately be met with boos from the Ron Paul contingent, plus maybe a series of "America First" chants.

The idea behind this is that while we might not have the money to immediately boot all Israel-Firsters from office, we can at least make their lives as uncomfortable as possible. We can also use the opportunity of these events to spread literature to enlighten other voters.

Send it to the Super

Send it to the Super voters first that you know will vote. Also, you can find out who the Ron Paul voters are in your state by contacting the Ron Paul campaign in your state and get the names of these folks and their addresses. The campaign can download the names and addresses for you. They should have already located them in many states. Volunteer at office in your state to make those calls if they have not been done yet.
On election day, make sure to help those folks who have indicated they will vote for Ron Paul, to the caucus or primary. Drive them if you have to. See if you can get them to volunteer as a delegate. Be kind. Do not want to lose that vote.

I found a VERY effective way to win Neocon converts!

I am currently going down the list of my Republican governor's Facebook friends and sending them the following message.

Mr. Doe,

President Barrack Obama in my opinion has been a terrible president for this country. By the end of 2012, Obama will have increased our national debt moreso than all previous 43 presidents combined. On top of that, he has given the Federal Reserve free rein to spend trillions of taxpayers' dollars bailing out banks, some of them in Europe. Add to that his attrocious, national health care bill, and I believe most would agree that defeating him this year is of the utmost importance if we are going to preserve our Constitutional republic, dollar, and anything resembling a sound economy.

I believe the surest way to defeat him is have a candidate that can draw a clear contrast between himself and Mr. Obama ideologically while at the same time being able to sweep the Independent vote, without which Obama would not have won in 2008.

I believe the one candidate who can do this is Ron Paul. Now, I know what you might be thinking. Ron Paul is a kook, Ron Paul is a loon, Ron Paul is a nutcase, Ron Paul is a liberal on foreign policy, etc. To be honest with you, when I first heard Ron Paul in the 2007 debates, the first thing that came to my mind was, “What is this guy doing running as a Republican?” It just never crossed my mind that a Republican would oppose the Iraq War, because it was a Republican president that initiated the Iraq War. But after a little research, I realized that one of the tenets of old-line Conservatism was the foreign policy that Ron Paul advocates. Ronald Reagan praised Ron Paul on foreign policy, saying, "Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country." Republican presidents Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, and Republican presidential candidates Robert Taft and Pat Buchanan all had the same foreign policy as Ron Paul. They believed America should have a strong military, but that it should be used for OUR national defense, not for somebody else’s national defense. They were all against the United Nations and like them, Ron Paul wants to get the U.S. out of the UN and kick the UN out of the U.S.

The foreign policy that Gingrich, Santorum, and Romney are advocating is the foreign policy of Democrat Woodrow Wilson. Wilson's liberal foreign policy ("make the world safe for Democracy") was brought into the Republican Party in the 1970s & 1980s by disaffected Democrats who were frustrated with the growing socialist agenda and hippie anti-war element in the Democratic Party. These "reformed" Democrats infiltrated the Reagan administration and dominated both Bush administrations. They have a utopian world view (all liberals live in a utopian fantasy land) on foreign policy that the U.S. should use its military to establish Democracy world-wide in the hope that one day the entire world will be Democratic. In other words, they believe we should spread Democracy the same way the U.S.S.R. spread communism. I believe other countries would be better off Democratic, but I don't think we should invade them and force them to be democracies.

Ron Paul is the ONLY Republican candidate that would balance the U.S. budget in ONE presidential term and the ONLY one that would GUARANTEE a victory against Obama. I hope you will consider casting your vote for Ron Paul in the Republican primary since he's the only one that understands how serious our debt and monetary problems are and is the only one that would even attempt to get us out of the UN and restore our national sovereignty. Thank you for taking the time to read this and God Ron Paul is the ONLY Republican candidate that would GUARANTEE a victory against Obama. I hope you will consider casting your vote for Ron Paul in the Republican primary since he's the only one that understands how serious our debt and monetary problems are and is the only one that would even attempt to get us out of the UN and restore our national sovereignty. Thank you for taking the time to read this and God bless.

I found a way that is VERY effective!

I went to my Republican governor's Facebook page and have been going down the list of his nearly 5,000 friends and sending them the following message. I suggest EVERYONE reading this find Republicans on Facebook in your state and start sending them an appeal for Ron Paul. It doesn't have to be the message I'm using, but it needs to be something convincing and a Ron Paul YouTube link would also be helpful.

I did this in 2008

I joined the revolution too late in 2008 to do anything more than vote in the caucus in Iowa, so I joined a letter-writing campaign. I think I'll send the guy in charge of that a message tonight, because he sent out lists of registered voters and their addresses. Not all were correct, of course. I got some success. Granted, it cost a lot of money for how much success I got, but I do think the personal touch is important and can make a difference. One older lady in Florida even sent me a thank you card, which is still on my fridge. What I did was tweak the form letter the site gave me, and I hand-wrote it and then photo-copied that onto some nice paper (with an American flag background or something like that). I tried hand-writing them all but didn't get too far. A previous poster is right: severe hand-cramping. This time around I've been making some phone calls, but I really think face to face is better. And I think the letter can be a better substitute to that than phone calls sometimes, especially since it's hand-written and people aren't being interrupted for the hundredth time. Not a bad idea to send literature with it either, although they may see that right away and toss before reading the letter. But maybe not... Thanks for the suggestion! Just have to find a way to get addresses now...

Not sure that will work, but this likely will...

RP's economics PROVE his foreign policy, but despite claims people like his economics they have NO CLUE about his economics.

That's why you've got to go clubs, churches, associations, etc. and give them a presentation either as a speaker or through a tabling in the back explaining how inflation and debt based money actually work.

It opens minds big time! Here's the link to resources: http://lightsonproject.com

Walking your precinct has more impact

People get a lot of junk mail, junk email, and junk phone calls and have developed ways to ignore it. Harder to ignore you standing at their door. And if you are polite and not aggressive they will give you a minute to make the elevator pitch and take your materials.

But I have to quibble with the premise here. Yes, Ron generally does better with young people, but he didn't win any age bracket in Florida nor probably in Colorado, and in SC he only got 31% of under-30s. Plus the Adelson caucus showed us there are a lot of middle-aged folks who support Ron.

So we have to move people across the spectrum, and it just may be easier to push our share of the under-45 vote from 20% to 40% than to push our share of the 65+ vote from 8% to 15%. If that helps us get better showings, then older people may start jumping on the bandwagon as well.

As a former campaign manager

I made good use of meager resources in primaries by sending a single direct-routed, "householded," hand-addressed, live-stamped letter to super-voters.

The envelope and letterhead were printed on a classy but subdued paper stock. There was nothing on the outside to suggest political content. The aim was to separate the letter from the heavy barrage of slick political mailings so it would be opened and read first. Also I knew that a classy paper stock would convey quality via the tactile sense, an information route that is vastly underutilized in politics. The letter was carefully worded to evoke a favorable reaction in a variety of people. (Writing to a diverse audience is critical if your mailing is not finely targeted.)

These mailings were asking people to make a special effort, that of writing in my candidate's name. Several successful campaigns were waged with this lone technique to capture nominations for empty seats on the ballot so I know it works. I have no doubt that an identical approach would help bring in the over-40 voters to Ron's campaign.

New Hampshire and Ecuador.

Consistently growing towards

Super Tuesday, not to mention the 8 lost ballot boxes in Iowa and 900 dead voters in SC. Please stop with all the dread. We must talk to our parents, and grandparents. Honestly being a little angry, and using passion is important to helping them realize the debt that's going to fall on us. Then, show them how the gov't admits the Gulf of Tonkin incident didn't happen, and the Veitnam war killed 50,000 people OVER A LIE!!

If you are willing to suffer

If you are willing to suffer through some severe hand-cramps, I suggest making your letters handwritten. Nothing gets more attention than a handwritten letter.

DVD's

Either distribute the RP campaign DVDS, or Copy select Youtube vids, and burn them to DVD. Pick vids that show how the election is being bought, how the media is lying to them, and ignoring Dr. Paul, and those that demonstrate that Ron Paul's policies are the right move for America. Some early 2008 vids with the hippy peace movement theme don't seem to hurt. Remember these people started that movement, and this provides them a way to finish what they started to do so long ago.

The baby boomer gereration will gravitate to video far more quickly than a letter that will likely be tossed out as "junk mail."

Send them a DVD, and they will likely play it. Remember six degrees of seperation. Change one mind, and you will change hundreds through their friends and family.

Hope this helps.

Couple of thoughts

First, if you are of the younger generations, make sure you get to the voting venues yourself, dragging all registered friends with you. That has been lax.

Second, huddle with your own older family members and their friends. Spend some time with them and with respect share your beliefs and concerns and how electing Ron Paul can affect your future for the positive. Remember, these people care very much about you. Ask them if they have any friends they would like to come over to discuss the importance of saving America..or the Constitution. Telephone (seems almost an antiquated term!) still works for them...but find out how to target your calls.

Third, call around to retirement communities and convalescent livinig homes and ask if they help their members/clients (whatever they are called) get to the primaries/caucuses...i.e. provide transportation. Ask if you can leave information at the desk or visit with anyone. Often some of these older people are still quite active and are only lonely and could use your input and friendship. Got some musical talent? - offer to give them some of your time and please keep it "clean." There are alot of toe-tapping (older folks like toe-tapping) Ron Paul songs out there.

When you are in sales...and that is what is happening here, we are marketing the best, you need to look at how to capture ready markets with volume, imo. Anyway, sort of thinking outloud.

Its very important

That we keep reminding people the independent and youth vote is what puts a candidate over the top. Obama would not have won without it and no candidate will beat him without it. Ron Paul has this vote. If these are "anyone but Obama" people they need to realize that all the other candidates cannot beat Obama because they only appeal to the base of Republicans which is not enough to win an election.
To put a candidate over the top and beat Obama, they MUST have additional votes besides just the Republican base.

"Once you become knowledgeable, you have an obligation to do something about it."- Ron Paul

Suggestion

Great idea!

I would suggest that at the end of the letter, you add something like,

"if you agree with me about the importance of electing a man with integrity, not bought by special interests, serious about fiscal responsibility,, then help me spread this message by emailing friends and family, writing letters, or posting to social media."

Use the pay it forward concept to keep this moving.

Everyone can do their own

Everyone can do their own thing. I prefer to focus on the low hanging fruit. Generally, that excludes anyone over 45ish.

I did the letter thing in 08

Sent letters out to my entire precinct. I put my return address on the letter, included my phone number and email address. No one responded.

Ron Paul received 6 votes in my precinct. 3 of them were from my husband, myself, and one other known Ron Paul supporter.

So hundreds of letters got 3 votes. Maybe. Maybe they were RP supporters before they received the letter.

IMO, the way to have mass appeal is to do extended TV commercials in prime time on broadcast TV. That is expensive.

Public showing of Ron Paul video

Yes. TV ads are expensive but public showing of RON PAUL Youtube videos are not expensive.
1) Get permit in public area
2) Large White Screen
3) Projectors (some if us already have)
4) A computer that has saved the videos.
5) Access to eletricity

Doing it several times a week, EVERY week and EVERYWHERE.

How much does it cost? Manageable cost, isn't it?

I am in marketing...if I send out 1000 mailers and get a

1% response, that is good. To get people to actually come to the polls and vote in a precinct, which I doubt has 1000 people, is very good.

However, my best "converts" have been with friends or acquaintances that I can manipulate the conversation to get Ron Paul's stances out there. I believe this is the highest rate of return. Just be certain the people you are talking to are inclined to vote and give a s7ot enough to vote.

This is a good idea but in

This is a good idea but in order to not be redundant and for a more cooperative system a site that tracks who has received a letter and possibly who has received a super-brochure would maximize the impact. This could be an adjunct to the phone from home and super brochure project. Call it the mail from home project.

Great Idea.

In Order to win you need to canvass your precinct. If everyone did this you would have a bigger turnout for Ron Paul... The key is you need to keep talking with these folks and I don't see where you would have a return phone# for them to reach you.

But anyway a letter from a neighbor and actually knocking on the door will get us through the gate.

Folks with upcoming super Tuesday contest.. Please consider going to your neighbor and talking with them and send a letter!

Excellent Idea!

I will be getting Super Brochures in mail on Monday and will being using this!
Thank You very much!
This will definitely help with those that do not have internet access!

A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather, its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.

I like the idea, I did something of the sort for my small (50+ homes) neighborhood in December & hand delivered them.
I called it [my neighborhood] 4 Ron Paul & mixed a Merry Christmas / Happy New Year in there hand written.

In the end I got about 5/6 people who didn't know much about Ron to ask me questions etc...

Remember, Ron Paul becomes geometricly more likely to lead the ccountry as time passes. Even Ron said old people are showing up.

couple suggestions

First, INCLUDE YOUR PICTURE in the letter. The impact of seeing a real person's face is huge.

Second, HAND-WRITE the address, at least. Hand-writing the whole darn letter would take forever; great impact, but terrible speed. But you can at least make sure that you personally address the letter to the recipient. (No cheating and using those cheesy cursive fonts or faux pen-ink colorings, either!)

This does seem like a possible end-run around the mind control media blockade. Good thinking. Let's hear more discussion!
