Looking For Experienced Kansas Delegate To School Me On Our States Process, I Want To Be Prepared!
Submitted by MindUrBusiness on Sat, 02/11/2012 - 00:45I want to be a delegate in our Kansas caucus and am looking for an experienced KS delegate to walk me through our process. Respond here or send me a message. Thanks, Stephen

Robert's Rules of Order
My experience is with Libertarian conventions, where we have more than our fair share of chess players, strategists, computer programmers, and rebels.
But I would assume that there are a few people in the GOP who love this stuff, know Robert's Rules of Order backward and forward, and who love to teach. Often (not always) these people are not particularly partisan, and usually will choose the rules over loyalty.
Find some. Make friends. Ask questions. You may want someone to go to who can help you on the floor.
If you can't find one in the GOP, maybe someone from another party could help you learn. Also, these experts are often available for hire.
I hope the campaign is hooking a few people up with Twitter advice on the floor (with a back up, too).
Thank you for doing your homework. Experience can make or break our success.

NETWORK!
Here's a facebook group already started for people wanting to be a delegate for Ron Paul.
https://www.facebook.com/RonPaulDelegates2012
I also looked to see if there was one specifically set up for Kansas yet (many states already do) but I couldn't find one.
You guys could get one started and post it on the main Delegates fb page and I'll help to get word out too!
Your caucus is on March 10th so you need to get busy!! PLUS (and this is VERY important) YOU MUST BE A REGISTERED REPUBLICAN to vote. Not sure if you can register AT the caucus or not. Usually you can but best to check it out.
The way it works in your state is that your district has to have Ron Paul win in it for you to be a delegate for him. Because delegates in your state are "bound" (required) to vote at the convention for whomever wins your district. (but all rules change if the convention becomes a brokered one but that's for another topic. LOL!) SO GET PEOPLE OUT TO VOTE FOR HIM IN YOUR DISTRICT!
OH, Here's a link to a RonPaul site that helps explain the delegate process a bit better too.

(I'm in MN and am a delegate but want to help other states network too!)
Last day to register
as a Republican in Kansas in order to vote in the caucus is Feb 17th...THIS FRIDAY! You must show a Kansas ID in order to gain entry to the caucus.
Here's another link, get to work. :)

West Kansas
here. I looked at a website earlier in the year and just became confused. I'd love to have someone break it down kindergarden style for me.
This should help get you started http://ksgop.org/caucus/
NM
I am completely sober this time and just read the website from the top to bottom. It's pretty clear cut.
I do have one question....in order to become a delegate you must sign an affidavite stating that you will only vote for the winner of your caucus unless released by that candidate. I'm assuming a majority of the other caucus states have to do the same thing? If so, how are we able to support Dr. Paul if he doesn't win our caucus?
Delegates Make the Rules
First of all, Ron Paul's nomination is not the only thing at stake. Many rules and resolutions were passed by Ron Paul supporters since the last convention.
Major negotiations with arm-twisting, bribery, begging, tears, and threats will probably take place because of people who think it's their job to control you, instead of vice versa.
Suppose they convince Santorum to drop out and endorse Romney? If "Santorum's delegates" are Ron Paul supporters, do you think his endorsement will matter?
What if they propose to nominate Romney "by acclimation" - do you think that would pass if many Santorum and Gingrich delegates are Ron Paul supporters?
And what if many delegates don't show up? If all the alternates are Ron Paul supporters, isn't that a good thing?

Many states differ
Actually it is not the norm for caucus states delegates to be "bound" (commit to vote for the straw poll winner in your district). Kansas is an exception.
There are two ways you will get to vote for Ron Paul as a delegate:
1. If Ron Paul wins the straw poll in your district and you get selected as one of the 3 delegates in your district to go to the National Convention.
2. If you still become a delegate and go to the National Convention and it becomes a brokered convention. (IE: after the first round of voting, no clear winner emerges). So you would HAVE to vote on the first vote whomever won your district, but if nobody wins at that point, you are released from that obligation and can vote for whomever you wish!
There's a fairly good chance we may go brokered this year if Newt and Santorum STAY in the race (contrary to what people think it is GOOD that they are still there) so don't let the bound delegate thing discourage you from running!!!!
