Maine Caucus Updates - Report Your Experiences Here

Here is my experience at the Caucas in South Portland that hold 41 delegates:
81 total Votes: Motion to witness all counts approved.
Mittens 29 36%
Paul 28 35%
Santorum 19 23%
Newt 5 6%
Write in 1 1%

My first caucus ever and I am pushing 40 years old. There was alot of confusing about the caucus process by the group that led the process on what to motion, etc. I think a lot of Romney & Paul Supporters thought that this was a primary that you just could show up any where between 8:00 and 11:00 am and walk up and vote. In reality anyone that got in after 9:00am could not vote becuase the caucus was processes was underway with its parties speakers. Gov. John Sununu from NH spoke on behalf of Mittens. A young lad from named Mike Wallace of South Portland who has worked on Ron & Rand Paul's campaigns while prior serving in the Air Force spoke for Ron Paul.

After the vote there were asked if 41 people would be a delegate and to pay a 25$ fee to represent this area of the Maine district to participate in May 5-6th Maine convention. I was one of the 41 in the room choosen. The delegate chair person we motioned in to be elected for our precinct was our very own Mike Wallace. While I didn't take an exact delegate count, I can easily say that over half of the delegates are Ron Paul supporters even though Mittens won the popular vote by merely 1 vote.

Side note:

About 12 older folks over 60 that showed up late to vote for Romney were turned down. One 18 year old Ron Paul supporter left because he was told he could not be a delegate, so he left prior to voting.

This thing is a dog race between Ron Paul and Mittens for sure.

I'm another fellow San Diegan giving a shout out!

Good job folks

Keep up the good work!

why couldn't the 18 yr old be

why couldn't the 18 yr old be a delegate?

and why would he leave prior to voting?

I mean, its 8 in the morning. If I get up at 8 in the morning for something, I sure as hell am gonna vote for RP (and I'm not a morning person).

Stay. Vote. Sleep later.

My God's not dead; he's surely alive. And he's living on the inside roaring like a lion.

because.....

Most everyone in the room including myself and the organizers did not have a good grasp of the process. I think this was the first caucus for most of us in thier. IT was like we were learning the process together from the 2 page printout given. Someone simply misinformed this young lad. The young lad was more concerned about being a delagate than for voting in the Straw Poll.

So I observered ignorance in this case, not malice.

Still at least 12 Mittens supporters were declined to participate for showing up late in the process.

Scarborough Tally
