Didn't Make it to Maine Today But I won an Obama Supporter
Submitted by Jaktober on Sat, 02/11/2012 - 15:34I've been in Boston for a week and was tempted to get up to Maine to help with the Caucus. However, nothing worked out to get me up there without great investment from my pocket (the pockets be empty). So I decided to take some Super Brochures and Voter Registration Forms and head down to the CVS a couple blocks from the apartment I'm crashing at.
I stood out in light snow for a couple hours, asking people if they wanted to register to vote and if they'd heard of Ron Paul.
One dude stopped by and was like, "You know what, I'm not registered, can you help me with that?" I said sure thing.
I pointed out that I was here to support Ron Paul but even if he didn't I'd be more than happy to help him get registered. He seemed to be in a bit of a hurry so I told him to take a registration form with him, he stopped for a second and said something like, "Um, when do I need to register in time to vote in the Republican Primary?" I told him he had a couple days. He seemed to get it and went on his way.
About 20 minutes later he came back by to get in his car and stopped to ask me, "So, what is your strategy for Ron Paul, I mean, he isn't going to get the nomination right?"
I took a quick second to explain both the delegate process (how we actually might be in the lead already) and the process of a brokered convention.
At that point, he made it clear that he was an Obama supporter. He said he really didn't like the other candidates, but was hesitant because Ron Paul could actually beat Obama (his own words!).
I then made a very quick argument, "Well, if you want Obama to be the best candidate possible you'd want Paul to debate him. If you plan on voting for Obama but may not be totally happy with how he's dealt with the Wars, the Drug War and Corporate Bailouts, then Paul is the only guy that will challenge him on those issues."
He then said, "I guess if Obama is going to lose, I'd rather him lose to Ron Paul. Okay, I'm definitely voting in the Republican Primary for Ron Paul. You sold me. Thanks!"
Made the whole day worth it.
Now let's WIN Maine!!!

Great job! Next time end by
Great job! Next time end by telling them to go out and win over at least 10 more converts themselves!
I am always so amazed
at these stories. How little effort it takes when the person is willing to listen and the Ron Pauul supporter is educated and ready to supply such excellent information.
This statement is profound and should be a campaign slogan:
I guess if Obama is going to lose, I'd rather him lose to Ron Paul.
You done good, son.
