Maine GOP Chairman: Any Caucus Votes After Tonight Won't Count Towards Total
Submitted by dabum2005 on Sat, 02/11/2012 - 21:38In this story reported by the Huffington Post, Charlie Webster, the GOP Chairman for the state of Maine, declares Mitt Romney the winner of Maine's Caucus straw poll today (2190 votes or 39%), with Ron Paul in second place (1996 votes or 36%).
"The totals reflected about 84 percent of the state's precincts. Webster insisted that any caucus results that come in after Saturday wouldn't be counted no matter how close the vote.
"Maine's caucuses began Feb. 4 and continued throughout the week. Several communities elected to hold their caucuses at a later date.
"Caucuses in Washington County that had been scheduled for Saturday were postponed until Feb. 18 because of a major snowstorm that blanketed the region. Earlier, party Executive Director Michael Quatrano said county officials had been told the results of that caucus would not count toward the total."
If this is true, then Mitt Romney steals the straw poll win tonight, and Ron Paul is snubbed again, as there is actually
a very high chance that Paul takes Washington County in the straw polls.
My question to you guys is, is this HP story legitimate? and if so, how does this "decision" really affect the Maine straw poll?
