McPolitics and Staying the Course

I am 35 years old. My wife and I have two young children. We are homeowners. I am fortunate enough to have a steady job. We homeschool our children. We don't live above our means, and we are trying to work toward a bit more self-sufficiency.

My wife used to be a registered Democrat. I was not party-affiliated, but consider myself generally libertarian and lean conservative on many issues. The Republican Party never had our vote, until this year when we changed party affiliation to support the good Dr. In the past three presidential elections I supported Nader, Badnarik, and Barr. I found Ron Paul last cycle, but too late to change my affiliation.

This cycle we are both voting for Ron Paul in our Republican primary. If he manages to win the nomination, we will vote for him in the general. If he does not, our vote will not be going to the Republican Party. If I could write in Dr. Paul I would, but at least I will consider a vote for someone like Gary Johnson third party. Under no circumstances will I vote for any of the other Republican candidates.

This is not because I am brainwashed, a mindless Paulbot. In fact, I don't believe such a thing exists. That is a boogeyman invented by the GOP establishment to dismiss the only truly grassroots political movement alive today. It is because I have taken the time to consider the issues, have studied enough to know something about the world and our country, and I know what I believe. I know what my children mean to me, and I know what kind of world I want them to inherit. This is by far the most important election I in which I will have voted.

My point here is simply that we are normal, everyday people. We aren't perfect, but we love our family, we care about our friends and community, and we want the world to be a better place. We know what matters in life, and we are not going to sacrifice our principles. We are going to stay the course.

"No One But Paul" in the 2012 Republican Primary.

They can win with us, or they will lose without us. It really is that simple. No price, even another 4 years of Mr. Obama, is too great to pay to finally help enough of our fellow citizens wake up.

The younger generation has grown up in a fast-food, first-person shooter, quick sound-byte McCulture. But I think many of them know it's all a sham, like something out of "The Matrix". They will stay the course, and we will win this. If not this year, then next time. Or the time after that. Or after I'm gone.

But the day will come when we do win this.
