Dr. Paul

Is a gentleman. Polite, humble and genuine.

Don't change a thing.

Romney

Why all the questions about Romney. What B.S.

We Got The GOP between The Short Hairs!

...and they damn well know it...Ha!!

The Chess Game

People have commented about his being nice over Romney and towards him. But that's a tactic. He is keeping Romney hoping for some kind of endorsement, thereby disarming him completely. Will - can - Romney say one bad thing about Paul? Would he dare, now, as he is eyeing all that RP enthusiasm for himself against Obama (which he can never really get)? He will also try to add some Paul spice to his drab rhetoric, which would move the debate content somewhat towards the freedom message.

This is a chess game. The GOP cannot win in November without Ron Paul and his movement - and Ron Paul will never sell his principles. But it is good to keep them hoping... that will disarm them all. Attitudes will change - you wait and see; and as soon as that happens, Ron Paul will become even stronger.

GOP Can't Win w/o Ron

I agree, but who is the nominee? Mitt "Goldman Sachs" Romney or good old Frothy? What could the Republican Party offer, other than nominating Ron, to "keep Ron Paul and his movement" without selling out his principles. By "moving the debate content somewhat towards the freedom message"? Ron and the movement has *already* done that. Having some insincere, watered down version come out of Mitt's mouth would only diminish it.

Given how the GOP establishment is treating Ron it seems clear to me that they would rather lose to Obama than nominate Dr. Paul. What about the phoney caucus results in Nevada and Maine? Remember how in 2008 they closed out Dr. Paul's delegates from the convention. Media slanders and other dirty tricks. That will only stop when he is no longer seen as a threat in the hope of keeping him in the fold.

Maybe Ron *is* jollying Romney along but the opposite might also be true. What the establishment fears above all is Ron going 3rd party. As time goes on he is increasingly unable to do this because of ballot access laws. If he waits until
August it will be too late.

Look at it positively:

You ask who will be the nominee. If the GOP wants to win, it's Ron Paul. If not, it could be Romney or someone out of the bag, like Jeb Bush.

If the trend, as I outlined it above, carries on forward, then the GOP will need to appease Ron Paul and his supporters, and that can only help him. Now, higher up the echelons of power they would still be fighting Ron Paul tooth and nail, but that is bound to lead to clashes between the appeasers and non-appeasers.

In politics you can never know for certain what is to come. You can know of plans, aims and strategies but things have a way of giving in, creating a cascading effect. Just keep focussed on Ron Paul gaining more ground in every possible aspect of the term 'gaining ground'. Positive thought helps a lot.

Positively Exasperating!

That's What!...How many times do we have to listen to an "interview" like this?
"Do you think Romney can beat Obama"?....SHEEEESHH!
I swear I'm gonna put a slug into the TV next time Ron does NOT come back with..
.......Aren't you asking the wrong question?
.......I can't speak for Mitt, But I KNOW I can beat Obama!
.......Bob, I didn't fly all the way here to answer questions about the other candidates....now in my case.....
.............................................................
THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO WIN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF THE UNDECIDED...especially when everyone else gaains more airtime , EVERY DAY, and 'cajole' the public into believing them to be the most recent reincarnation of THOMAS JEFFERSON!
DAMN, DAMN, DOUBLE DAMN!

I love how he mentioned getting 2nd

in NH Democratic primary. That is also about 5% of the Democratic vote.

Don't waste your time trying to be right, spend it trying to get better

Take the gloves off. We've

Take the gloves off.

We've got it, you're mom taught you if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. In politics when talking about your opponent if you can't say anything bad don't say anything at all.

If given a chance to say the GOP could beat Obama "if they pick me", then say it. Don't just say the GOP could beat Obama if they pick the right guy. You are the one with polls that say you are the most likely Republican to beat Obama.

Get to the point and make it clearly.

You can't expect to do these interviews again, and again. You can't expect people to watch enough of them to figure out what you are saying. You have to take the moment.

The other candidates continually make gold lines in the media with lies, when you could be making the golden lines that are hit with the public with the truth.

This was not persuasive, and at points anyone parsing the sentence structure without much background to make inferences could not tell what was being said or meant.

Suggestion: Ron Paul should remove the words "well" and "but" as the beginning of a new sentence or thought particularly before finishing the last sentence, or thought.

Ron as POTUS ONLY

Who might that potential VP be, Ron, that allows Mitt to appeal to voters from across the political spectrum? Puzzling statement ... ;)

Schiefer is such a tool.

He is interviewing Dr. Paul, and tries to make the whole interview about Romney. Dr. Paul uses sly jiu-jitsu and manages to make his points very well. Still, I guess it's better than before when these interviewers were attacking Dr. Paul more directly.

Dr. Paul did great in this interview! Plus his vote in Maine almost was enough to put him into first place! And that's a story that no one is talking about.

jeffjeffjeff's picture

It's interesting how much

It's interesting how much more kind the interviewers have become after they no longer see Ron Paul as a threat. With each contest where we do not come in 1st with the popular vote it seems like the followup interviews are becoming less confrontational. Gosh even Stephanopoulos gave Ron Paul a decent interview. Shows that they either do not believe or understand that Dr. Paul will have considerable amount of power when it comes to the convention.

The press don't understand what they don't understand

Its beyond them. Otherwise they'd all be rooting for Dr. Paul.

What I'm talking about is economic blowback esp. currency. And just like Dr. Paul has been saying, its going to be much much worse than 2008.

Few people truly understand, though many intuitively feel something is wrong with the status quo and with whom Dr. Paul's message resonates.

Bottom line is Ron Paul is

Bottom line is Ron Paul is the true conservative and Mitt is not.
Ron Paul has true supporters young and old the 3 GOP have very few.
Ron Paul can beat Barack Obama.
Ron Paul the only candidate that is veteran.
Ron Paul the only candidate that will follow the constitution 30 plus years of voting record.
Ron Paul promotes sounds money and ending the Fed.
Ron Paul makes sense on his foreign policy. End War, Bring Troops home and Defend the country.

"When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty."

DR. PAUL IS BRILLIANT...

This is a great interview - Dr. Paul is relaxed, cheerful, well-spoken, and a true gentleman. He says what needs to be said - most importantly, that he is much more likely to win against Obama because of the democratic voters attracked to him - without sounding like he's bragging. What art - true blue, humble, wise. That the commentators defer to his judgement on the state of the others' campaigns just fascinates me. They ask him these questions about the other candidates because I think they truly value his assessment. They are showing him so much more deference and he manages very nicely and diplomatically to slip in that he is the superior candidate with the superior message and the right qualities (firmness of mind) so good naturedly. They can't help but admire him as they have gotten to know him better. At least that is how it seems to me. So much better than last summer - amazing!

Another perspective

We need to stay positive folks. Negative energy does not help, it only discourages us. Let's not forget this.

Here's my perspective.

Paul's free-market, non-interventionist, common sense message of peace and prosperity is very attractive to everyone, regardless of political party. Our numbers are growing on a daily basis. Our numbers will continue to grow if we present our message in an honorable and respectful way.

We're not going to win support by trash-talking the other candidates. That only pisses off their current supporters; the supporters we need to win over.

Romney likely has a lot of wealthy supporters. Wealthy supporters likely have a decent understanding of business, monetary policy, and economics. By being respectful to Romney, Paul isn't selling out, he's gaining respect from current Romney supporters. This respect may become support.

Additionally, Romney's supporters are likely more moderate, and by definition, more likely to accept Paul's foreign policy than current Santorum or Gingrich supporters.

Paul is likely not going to pull support from either anti-Islam extremists or so-called "social conservatives." They will need one hell of an epiphany to come our way.

With that said, Paul should continue to hammer Santorum and Gingrich, exposing them as corrupt big government Statists which indeed they are, and continue to be more respectful to Romney, while still exposing his contradictions and short-comings.

Respect?

I appreciate the positive interpretation. But what makes you think there is any chance whatsoever that Mitt "Goldman Sachs" Romney's money men are suddenly going to come to their senses and support Dr. Paul. I would worry if they did.

I know it is generally Dr. Paul's style to be modest and respectful, even to his dishonorable opponents. But I am getting nervous about the talk of "speaking opportunities" at the convention or "auditing the Fed" as objectives. Even assuming Romney won the election, how likely is a President Romney to honour such an agreement. Do you really think a Romney administration would conduct a honest audit of the Federal Reserve? Or for that matter give more than lip service to non-interventionism while planning a new "unavoidable" war with Iran.

Is that what we have been working for?

Thetis

Respect..In this case

..is nothing....a "booby prize"..the kewpy-doll at the carnival...LET'S TAKE THE GLOVES OFF!
Forget these wishy-washy rationalizations..."feelgood" generalities...mentioned here by clueless scairdy-cats afraid to see what the real deal is.
WE WANT TO WIN!...Let's keep our eye on the real prize.
Thanks for letting me "vent"...I needed that!

I don't understand...

Creepy "let's talk Romney, I don't like you" Bob has Ron come all the way "from Texas" to be in another room for the interview? Maybe Ron felt it would be too much to be in the same room.

If I were Paul

This conversation revolving around Mitt Romney would not go beyond two questions. Part of me wants to say "B**** I'm not a paid CBS political contributor. Mitt can do what he does; I'mma do me."

That's okay. He can still get

That's okay. He can still get his points across in that framework. Most people have an innate ability to separate the BS from the truth. Let him ask whatever he wants, and let Ron Paul be heard, over and over again under it's cemmented in the minds of America.

Overly Modest Paul

Dr. Paul, you can still be a gentleman and say, "Mitt does not meet my standard of a Conservative; and polls show that I can beat Obama, .... whether or not Mitt can."

Dr. Paul, we yearn for your statesmanship to take this type of gracious interview by Schieffer and remind us of your sterling qualities! You can be modest, and a gentleman, and still hit a home run!!

Like most think , RP needs to

Like most think , RP needs to flat out say" I CAN BEAT OBAMA" instead he promotes Mitty as the anti Obama! Why???

Who has a youtube clip of RP

Who has a youtube clip of RP exclaiming " I can be the leader of the free world!" He has to say it. Scream it! Its what we are all thinking. We all post the words we want to hear him say on DP. We all want him to proclaim how serious he is and how serious our situation is!

I'm as frustrated as a back seat driver is frustrated. No control...

Okay. This is what I took away from this interview......

Dr. Paul said that Romney needs him on the ticket to bring in the Dems and Independents. Am I wrong?

~Your perception becomes your reality~

sure sounded like it to me

The first question Alex Witt of MSNBC asks Doug Wead is why Ron Paul seems to be defending Mitt Romney on Face-The-Nation. "What's going on?" she asks. Doug does a good job of putting his spin on it:

http://youtu.be/ddJlU65LMkE

Still, the goal here is to beat Romney, not influence him, be his friend, or try to will his favor.

As time goes by I'm beginning to wonder what is going on with Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. Is Ron Paul being a gentleman, or are we giving him the benefit of the doubt by saying that? This is a real question. Honestly, I think Ron Paul thinks that Mitt is so political that he can be influenced toward his point-of-view and thinks that place nice may accomplish this goal. If that is in fact what Dr. Paul is thinking then someone needs to remind him that he is running for President. I repeat, the goal here is to beat Romney, not influence him.

Yes, you are.

That's absolutely NOT what he said. He's being a gentleman, that's all. He will NOT be Romney's VP - or anyone else's. That is impossible and he knows it.

Agree

I have always liked his tactics, they serve to show that he is a humble statesman which we have not had for a long time. That IS THE CHANGE PEOPLE WANT (well at least me!)

There's a HUGE Difference

..Between being "humble" and being a "Door-Mat".
I love "The Good Doctor", but he needs to stand up to these mind-games that Sheifer plays.
.....Look up the definition of humble; from "humus" /Greek; the earth; as in "down-to-earth".
