Is the Maine GOP really going to disenfranchise a county and a half?
Submitted by RG4RP on Sun, 02/12/2012 - 12:34good read!
Bangor Daily News:
Due to weather conditions, Republican caucuses in Washington County and part of Hancock County were not held on February 11, 2012. Despite this, the GOP powers-that-be went ahead, announced the caucus results, and said these were final results, not to be amended.
...
Is it just me, or does this seem sort of odd, particularly since last year, the Maine Republican party passed and defended a change in Maine’s voting procedures (which was then rejected by voters by a 60-40 margin), that they argued was necessary to protect the integrity of the ballot? (Then again, the Republican approach to balloting involved making it harder to vote. But I digress.)
...
It certainly could lead supporters of other Republican presidential candidates to be troubled. The very loyal and committed supporters of Ron Paul don’t tend to have trouble expressing themselves and they very well may speak up, both directly to the Maine Republican Party and to the public at large, through op-eds, letters-to-the editor, calls to talk shows, and other forms of communication.

yes
by declaring state to Romney with 83% reporting they have already done that. I guess they are sure that Maine would vote democrat in fall so GOP doesn't care about repercussions! I say let Maine vote libertarian !
No, they aren't.
Those places will still elect delegates just like the rest of the states. They just won't have their votes counted in the straw poll. That in itself is bad enough, but it's a far cry from disenfranchising them.
NO ONE BUT PAUL
I now think of the GOP establishment of Nevada and Maine as the committee to re-elect Obama. I think we need one million signatures on a petition that says; If I vote for a Republican in the next election it will be NO ONE BUT PAUL.
someone
Someone should start a noone but paul campaign website to get pledges. It could make a statement that would trump how he is being portrayed as unelectible.
Yes, and it makes perfect sense
The GOP bastards knew that the RevPAC was going to conduct exit polls at all of the caucuses. So, the only way they could beat us and not have proof of vote fraud was to find a way not to count 17% of the votes in areas where they knew DR Paul would have a strong showing. The funny thing about the weather forcast (which I checked when I heard they had canceled the caucuses in Washington County) was that; they were only calling for 2-4" in Washington County but then at the top of the screen they had a special Winter Weather Advisory calling for 10". I read someplace today that they ended up with very little snow.
How far is the GOP willing to take this game???
Those Tough Girls!
The Girl Scouts continued on with there event in Washington County despite the forcast of Snow! Brave Brave Girls hey? Piss weak GOP . . PISS WEAK!!
Yes. And they did it in broad daylight.
In front of the press, no less.
The Press were accessories...
by not doing any real reporting! Why wasn't the truth seeking inquisitive Press not asking why 2-4 inches of snow would be cause for a postponement of an ENTIRE week!
They easily could have postponed the caucus ONE day and not interrupted anyone's life. They have snow plows in Maine. Lots of 'em. Postpone a day but don't postpone a week and declare those votes won't count.
I mean really! They told how many people that their votes WILL NOT COUNT!
America is starting to see clearly that the GOP and the system are rigged. The DNC is loving this because they are totally invisible with the wrath going towards the GOP and not them. The DNC will show its true colors soon enough though.

Washington County
is one of the counties not counted.
Here is a description of Washington County by a Maine Recreation website for tourists.
"With its two cities, 44 towns and 32,000 population, Washington County is larger in area than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined."
Now, that sounds like a pretty big place to be ignoring in a vote.

Unfortunately, many of those that have reached a position of governance in any group, sometimes abuse their position.
I have seen it in almost every group that I've been a part of.
I strongly believe that the famous words; "All Men {Women} are Created EQUAL", gives the power of equality to any and all Americans. { Except the military, which is totalitarian }
Therefore, unless you're in the military, a President, Congressman, Senator, Lawyer, Ditch digger, Unemployed person, or super star, gets the same amount of respect from me.

Nice article, but whoever
Nice article, but whoever took that quote from Chris Gardner did not do the job a journalist should do. Chris made the call to postpone the caucus then tells us that he is shocked that the Maine GOP will not count the votes. He should have been asked WHY he was shocked. Did he not know the rules? Did he ask, but was lied to? Just saying that you are dismayed is not enough, buddy. It is impossible to believe that he did not know the consequences of his actions. We deserve real answers.

Gardner?
Is he a Paul or Romney supporter? Anybody know?
Sounds like he's trying to do the right thing by having the voting still performed this Saturday and forwarding results for reconsideration.
Also no mention of what the Hancock chairman or who had to say about the situation. Half of Hancock county was also affected by this delayed voting?
Not defending these guys just yet, but would like to have some more info before condemning them.
Anyone know how many total votes were cast in last election in these 2 counties?
Just looked this up:
Hancock County Chair: Eric White of Trenton
Hancock Committeeman: Denis Blodgett of Brooksville
Hancock Committeewoman: Liz Walker of Brooklin
Hancock At-Large: Bill Barker of Surry
Washington County Chair: Chris Gardiner of Edmunds
Washington Committeeman: Ray Nichols of Jonesport
Washington Committeewoman: Beverly Nichols of Jonesport
Yeah, it certainly "sounds"
Yeah, it certainly "sounds" like he's "trying" to do the right thing. But what else is he going to say right now to keep the heat down? Of course he's going to be saying things like this now to keep people from hating him.
There is no getting around the fact that he made this huge decision and is claiming ignorance when there is no way he could not have known the consequences of his actions. The nullifying of votes is not an after-thought type of consideration. And this guy is running for re-election?!
This ABC News article says he's a Romney supporter:

Ha Ha!!! I'm shocked...
Ha-Ha!!! I'm shocked... SHOCKED!!!
This man owes a real explanation to his constituents. I wouldn't be surprised if he was just a tool and was lied to or mislead by higher ups, but the people deserve to know exactly what happened here.
The public should not just accept any old answer like "Whoops! Darn. My bad." Especially from a Romney supporter.
There have to be some journalists that will get this guy's real story on the record, not just his feigned emotions.

Citizen's Arrest?
I wish we could actually do this.
Perhaps the fear of "The People" barging into their homes (state GOP leaders) and "arresting" them, may give them pause to commit further fraud across the country.
Would love to see ex-Navy Seals put fear in these crooks. Hey Jesse Ventura!
In Boston, In Pre Revolutionary War Time,,,
The irate Boston citizens did arrest the English appointed tax collector, took him to a special oak tree, and tar and feathered him.
This action did provoke the Revolutionary war, it is said.
They also burned the English ship called the Gaspee to the water line in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, in 1772.
Gaspee days are still celebrated in Rhode Island:

Cool!
That's the kind of history I find interesting. I had terrible history teachers in my public school and a worse one in college.
The good 'ole days. Gun totin' citizens taking care of crooks.
The snowball has started rolling down the mountain. The GOP is..
...F*#KED.
I think we will seeing their establishment loyalists start jumping ship now in other/future states merely out of FEAR of being caught up in a scandal that puts them personally into a holding cell in State Prison.
