Guam Caucuses this Saturday

Apparently, Guam is holding their caucuses this Saturday, worth 9 delegates. What else do we know about this, and do we have good people there? Any DP members in Guam?

CNMI Caucus Same Day

The CNMI (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands) caucuses will be held the same day as well, and they also have 9 delegates.

The Guam Caucus will actually be held on March 10..not

yesterday.

Was looking for "yesterday's" results via Google, and Wiki says the caucus will be next month.

Anyone have extra vacation time? Book a flight

and spend a few weeks in Guam while you canvass the island! I do hope we have some people on the ground to make a difference.

Guam + Military = Paul?

We need to find out what Paul supporters are out there. Guam is mostly military, the military mostly supports Paul. We should win this one as a show of support for our foreign policy from those in our armed forces.

It's getting late, but I'll look into this tomorrow, or when I get some time this week. Some how we need to leverage this.

Maybe get RevPAC to run ads there lobbying military and talking Ron Paul's foreign policy and how the military supports it?

bump for Guam

RPF had some posts about this sometime back, i hope the Campaign has some people on the ground there.

Need to Mail Super Brochures

If we have addresses we should mail Super Brochures! Hopefully it doesn't take more than 5 days:(

If not, we could all pitch in and take it easy. I doubt anyone else is even trying to grab any of the voters there.

As I suggested before, send a DIGITAL copy.

If they need money to print and bulk mail the brochures, send them that.

Bump for Victory

Guam should caucus for independence from the Imperium! In the meantime, though, they should vote for Ron Paul. So bump for a Paul victory in Guam.

Outlying territories vote for the establishment choice

These things are very low turnout but are tightly controlled by local pooh-bahs who aim to please their party friends in Washington to keep the economic aid coming. If you can find an example of a Republican challenger defeating the establishment candidate in any territorial caucus or primary in the last 30 years I will be very surprised.

Better to pull out a PR victory in Maine's Washington county next weekend and focus on winning the Washington state caucus on March 3rd. Not to mention getting delegates elected in all the states that are beginning the process this month (VA, NC, WI, etc).

View from Guam

On island on Guam now. We started a (very) small meetup group over the summer with not much more than a commitment for everyone to get RP bumper stickers. I have been primarily involved in a newborn, my job and transfer out of the navy, and moving back to the states in recent months, but I have not seen any type of presence for any other national candidates either which is surprising having witnessed the fervor of the local elections.

The locals are primarily concerned with their own nepotistic politics, putting themselves in positions of power to best divvy up the federal dollars and contracts poured into the island. Ron Paul's foreign policy falls flat here, as a large portion of the economy here is entirely dependent on the military presence. Their main concern seems to be profiting from the fallout of the billion dollar buildup of Marines on the island. They criticize McCain (who won 60% in 2008) as isolationist for being somewhat critical of the $21 billion price tag of relocating a couple thousand Marines from Okinawa to Guam.

Meanwhile, the local politicians want to have their cake and eat it too by promising millions of federal dollars in pet projects ($33-million dollars going to purchase school buses, to build a mental health substance facility on Guam and a repository for cultural artifacts in addition to infrastructure upgrades) while criticizing the location of required new firing ranges and expansion of the military based that buildup would require.

Most of the active duty military here that are registered, are registered back in the states and vote absentee if at all. I have spent some time getting the word out and registering for absentee voting at http://www.fvap.gov/. There is a large Army reserve and veteran population, but their political affiliations seem to be the same as the locals.

I think our time is better spent stateside.

I thought...but this is good feedback.

When the person said, "establishment wins...30 years", I thought hey, lets try for it anyway; however, this seems like a reason from on-the-ground why it would be ...not wasted effort, but a long-shot not worth much hope (except the empty Obama kind ;) )

Thanks for informing us.

I have wondered about Virgin Islands & Marianas. They also get delegates. I'm guessing Marianas might be similar, but V.I. might be different culturally, since it's heavily tourist dependent. Tourism goes down when the economy is in the tank.

Then we should save the money, let Mitt have Guam

and send their delegates DVDs later. Basically we could win Guam for about $20.00 just before the convention : )

Bump for a Ron Paul WIN for Guam!!

I thought we actually had presence there.

Speaking of US territorial properties, from what I read recently, the Doc actually has his official campaign presence in Puerto Rico, too.

Couldn't believe my eyes when I read that they had TWENTY THREE winner-take-all delegates up for grabs!

TWENTY THREE! That's more than many states in CONUS!

Not such a 'tiny' US territorial island, eh?

Any Guam R3VOL here?

Please let us know!
