Maine County Analysis: Why we're trailing - Waldo also underreported

I compiled the 2008 vs 2012 county-level results here:

We needed to cut Mitt's margin by 34 points over 2008. Looking at the 5 largest counties that contain 2/3 of the state's population, we surpassed that mark in 2 (Androscoggin and York) but fell short in 3 (Cumberland, Kennebec, and Penobscot).

Turnout was way up in Androscoggin and York, up slightly in Cumberland, but down in Kennebec and Penobscot, which seems to correspond with how well or poorly we did relative to our benchmark. Paul supporters were more motivated to turnout on the 11th, when Androscoggin, York, and most of Cumberland voted, than on the 4th, when most of the other counties voted. If we'd been this motivated last weekend, who knows what would have happened.

Turnout was way down in Piscataquis, Sagadahoc, and especially Waldo counties. These declines seem out of step with the rest of the state and raise questions about whether they were fully reported. Waldo in particular looks like much of the vote is missing. Washington, of course, has very little turnout included in this tally.
