I got a letter from the EPA
Submitted by fedup48009 on Mon, 02/13/2012 - 09:14I just received a letter in the mail over the weekend from a company that is contracted with the Department of EPA. They want to rent my Volkswagen van and do testing on it. They said that they will keep it for 1 to 4 weeks and pay me up to $50.00 per day! All that they want to do is check emissions on the vehicle. They also said that they will provide me with a rental vehicle for the period that they have my van.
Has anyone else gotten a letter like this? It was hand-written with all of my information. I know of the company that it came from too so I know it's legit.
1. Why on earth would the government care what my 2010 vehicle's emissions are like?
2. That is going to cost the government $2000.00 just for use of my van. That doesn't cover the man-hours that it costs them to perform the tasks.
3. I just don't trust anything that comes from the federal government.
Fellow DP'ers, please give me your feedback. My thoughts are: Let them take the thing and get the money. Donate it to the RP campaign which will stop ridiculous things like this.

Sounds Good
It's a good idea if you will support RP. The only thing I might add is to ensure that the accelerator is a little sticky and it's leaking a little brake and power steering fluid.
I thought this was going to be an insider post of government waste, because I sure saw more than I could stomach at both state and federal levels. If you replaced state and federal employees with people that were skilled and competant at accomplishing necessary tasks, you could easily reduce the workforce by at least 80%, and increase effectivess at the same time.
I changed the title of the post
I see what you meant. Didn't mean to sound like I used to work for them. I have other stories of waste from selling to other government offices in my sales career. I just don't have the time right now to post them.
