Republican Party Has Not Earned My Support Beyond Tenuous Association with Paul
Submitted by JohnMikal on Mon, 02/13/2012 - 09:25After decades as a republican, I left the party to be an independent. The reason I registered as republican again this election cycle was for Ron Paul. If Ron Paul is not the nominee, I will write in his name and return to Independent affiliation. The republican leadership deserves a stern scolding, much as a parent gives a naughty child, for trying to buy my allegiance through meaningless alterations in the party platform. These are just some more empty promises to be broken when my vote and enthusiasm are no longer needed.
You know that Romney, Santorum and Gingrich will implement essentially the same policies as Obama. War mongering imperialists to make money for the military industrial complex, supporting money manipulations for the 1% and expanding government at the expense of our personal liberty. You know that they will implement the positions I just described out of either belief or lack of moral strength to stand up to the power of the special interests. You know that I cannot trust them to follow through on the words of the "Official Party Platform" once they get into office.
You are hoping by modifying the party platform to reflect Ron Paul positions that you will transfer his supporters to the republican party? You've got it backwards! Ron Paul is offering the republican party an opportunity to earn the support of his followers! He is offering the republican party a chance to reclaim their integrity.
The republican party leadership has the option to take a stand on supporting the importance of honesty and integrity over mouthing empty promises. Words are cheap. You have to embrace these policies to the core of your being. That is what integrity means. You have to believe, deep in your heart, that Ron Paul's positions are what you want to achieve.
You cannot buy the support of people who are inspired by the integrity of Ron Paul through feeble promises. Don't you get it? You have to exemplify integrity in your own life and organization. You have to fight to make sure that every action your organization takes is inspirational.
On this issue, the republican party leadership has failed. In one state primary after another, the republican party has show itself to be rife with corruption and actions that exemplify greed and thirst for power above all else.
You want to really inspire the Ron Paul people to join the republicans? Crack down with a heavy hand on the corruption within your ranks. Insist on honesty from all your members or have them ejected from the party. As long as you coddle or embrace corruption, you cannot be trusted with my support! If you cannot keep your own ranks clean, I cannot believe that you will be capable of representing my best interests. You are not currently capable of earning my vote and my enthusiasm beyond your tenuous association with Ron Paul.
If you want my support, you must not only take care of your own house and create an environment that I feel safe joining, you must also inspire me with your integrity to know that I can put the power of the country of the United States in your hands. I must trust that you will do a righteous job for all of the people of the world. Before you claim the moral leadership to bomb other nations for righteous cause, to claim the wisdom and power of deciding life and death around the world, you have a lot of work to do. And make no mistake about it, I currently hold the democratic party in the same disdain. It starts with cleaning your own house of decay!
It is well past time to stop playing your political games and do some soul searching and growth as an organization. It is time for you to develop your integrity and stand up for what you know to be right! Insist on honesty and integrity in the organization and the candidate you put forward. Embrace righteous causes and inspirational leadership. Join Ron Paul!

Hang tough brothers and sisters
the demographic fact is that we OWN the republican party of the future
We own the GOP of the future?
I have a post below that you may want to read. I feel optimistic that we will win this time. But if we don't win, I do not have any faith that the republican party is salvageable. And even if I did think the GOP was salvageable, I certainly wouldn't want anybody in the republican party thinking they can string us along after the way they have treated Ron Paul hoping we will stay affiliated with them in the future. That's letting them know how cheaply we can be bought off.
1st they try offering a VP position for Rand, then VP for Ron, then possibly 'owning' the GOP in the future.
It's just like the budget, you either balance the budget in your term, or its all just promises that will float away.
The same with Ron Paul and the GOP, either they are with us now, or they're trying to BS us with talk about maybe something in the future.

I will remain a republican to try to change it
but I won't vote for lame candidates in the general election if they keep putting them up.

If you want
the Republican Party to reflect your values, then you have to participate in it. Become a member and support people for leadership positions who you agree with.
By being a member, you aren't obligated to vote for any Republican candidates. There is a GOP county party chair in Wisconsin who makes it well known that he will not vote for any presidential candidate except for Ron Paul.
Just like you can't change American government if you give up and leave the country, you can't help change the GOP if you give up and leave.
My libertarian blog
You really think you can change the Republican Party?
Let's start off with the premise that there are many good people in the republican party. But this group also includes some number of people who murder women and children for profits. This is the party where people who think like that go. Bombing countries, assassinations, starving people through embargos, etc. This is the extent to which some within the military industrial complex, oil industries and bankers will go for their own pleasure.
Not all again mind you, there are many in the military, etc. who do so for our sincere defense. But it is just a little too easy for some to slide down that slippery slope. To step by step, cross those lines from defense, to "it's our duty", to pre-emptive, to state terrorists.
How many are there in the GOP who have crossed the line into state terrorists? If there are not enough in the Republican party to see the clear choice in front of us right now with Iran, I do not believe there is enough good left in the republican party to be worth saving.
Think about it, what do you have to turn off in your soul once you cross that line and kill for profit? If there aren't a sufficient number of good people left in the GOP who see the clear distinction between Ron Paul and all the other candidates this time, how will they ever be able to? If they do not nominate Ron Paul, then too many have crossed those lines. Then there will be no hope for the party.
Then, the only way to change them is to abandon them. Let them as a group wither from lack of support. Let everybody see how few there are who support the idea of bombing cities so that gasoline can be kept under $5 a gallon. They will no longer be able to claim, "Look at all the other people who agree with us", while never revealing the real story behind the numbers. That most of the people who are in the party don't agree with them, and are only there to try and change them. And you will never change the hard core of this group. They kill for money.

The Maine Reason Ron Paul Will Still Win
COMMENTARY | There are three paramount keys to Ron Paul's pending success in becoming the Republican presidential nominee, even though the media will say Mitt Romney is still the front-runner. One contest to watch on March 6 is Virginia, where Romney and Paul go head-to-head since they are the only ones on the ballot.
Electability
Winning a contest is the best way to prove you can win. There are no substitutes. A win can boost his support, gaining voters and donors who never knew he existed a week ago. Despite the media's preemption in proclaiming a winner in Maine, it seems likely Paul will receive the most votes once they have all been counted -- remember, Romney won Iowa once upon a time if followed the media fairytale in January.
Recent polls have shown Paul can beat Barack Obama if he becomes the nominee, and few doubt he would be the best candidate to draw in independent and disgruntled Democratic voters in a general election. Obama won the presidency in 2008 by having that same advantage over John McCain.
Having a Good Plan
Another key point for Paul is that he has the best plan for restoring America, fix the economy, reducing the oversized federal government and rein in spending. The sad part is this key point ranks second to perceived electability for most voters -- shame on us. No other candidate has such a detailed plan available for voters to see the actual dollar amounts being cut, and also to see a plan that keeps Social Security and Medicare funded, including cost of living adjustments, for years to come.
Inevitability
Yes, accepting the inevitable is a powerful herd mentality that all of us are susceptible to in all areas of our lives. The interesting part is realizing who inevitability really belongs to -- Mitt Romney or Ron Paul? The media reports it belongs to Romney, but how many Republicans would be so quick to believe the "liberal media?" Surprisingly, all too many of them. Letting MSNBC or CNN choose your Republican nominee via influence is as repugnant as letting your opponent choose your next move in a game of chess -- yet Republican voters still fall prey to it.
Paul should have the feeling of inevitability on his side because he is the only candidate whose supporters won't coalesce around another candidate, even if Paul endorsed the candidate. His candidacy is carried by a shared trait of individualism; he supports his voters as much as they support him.
There is no conceivable way Romney can beat Obama in a general election, given Obama's insurmountable campaign funding and the growing number of Libertarians/Republicans. Inevitability is knowing your only choice in 2012 is Obama or Paul.
I'll choose Paul now rather than being stuck with Obama later.

Just because you're in the Repube party doesn't mean
you have to back them. It doesn't mean you have to send money, vote for their candidates, show up to their neocon rallies or any such thing.
What it does mean though is that you can influence it by having Libertarian leaning/Constitutional Conservatives or the like, join the party, run for office, which will allow you to vote for a Republican... a real conservative and not a neocon puke.
Do to the neocons what they did to the republican party and the Tea Party.
I would love to see one of the Constitutional Parties rise up to rival the two party system and it may happen in time but I don't have that much time to wait.
We can attack them from the inside, gut them like the pigs they are and serve them up for breakfast the next morning.
Neocon Bacon... MMMMMmmmm Not too much though.. it'll clog your Liberty loving arteries.
(That's a winning strategy)

Can we just run the neocon
Can we just run the neocon pigs off a cliff like Legion and eat pastured bacon instead?

Thanks for the encouragement
Thanks for the encouragement to change the republican party from within. I'm a bit too concerned about the company I keep however. While there are certainly many good people in the republican party, as an organization, they have not done enough to keep their house clean.
Their continued acceptance, embrace or even encouragement of fraudulent practices makes them a group to avoid in my mind.... were it not for Paul. He single handedly counterbalances the corruption that has gathered around that nexus.
What other constitution oriented parties do you know? I would like to look into them more.
Thanks.

A few others.
Libertarian, Constitutional and Patriot Party.
If we can keep enough people in the repube party instead of splintering into separate similar parties.. It's just an all around better strategy. try and look at it like Dr.Paul does the economy.
Deal with a little suffering upfront for a small period or deal with a much bigger problem in the future.. in this case.. taking 20 years to build a party to rival the strength of the two party system we have now.
Your choice but I'm staying in.

I didn't marry my wife hoping to change her....
I wrote a post above about my thoughts on changing the GOP if Ron Paul doesn't get nominated this time. The key point being, if Ron Paul doesn't get in, it indicates that the people who kill for profits have gotten too strong of a hold on the GOP. And that core will never be changed. They need to be isolated. They need all the people with goodness in their hearts to leave and let the vile creatures twisting that organisation wither from lack of support.
I didn't go into marriage hoping to change my partner. I'm not going to join a party hoping to change them. I'm here for RP. I've always found that being careful about who I associate with and sticking with my convictions, amazing things happen real fast.
People of like minded persuasion draw together. How many great people have been repelled from your way of thinking because you have associated with the GOP? Something great might have happened years ago if we didn't keep on associating with the vultures who kill and control other people for money.
Sorry if I'm coming off a bit too strong. I do not want to be giving another RP supporter a hard time. In any case, all this speculation is premature. There is still time for the GOP leadership to come to their senses. I mainly don't want any of them thinking that I'm going to stick around if they don't nominate RP. I want to make it abundantly clear, that they should disavow themselves of that hope right now!
Nominate RP, or you've lost me.
http://riseforliberty.com/ For May 17 Money Bomb!
I understand what you're saying but your
marriage analogy doesn't work in this instance.
You don't love the GOP nor do you nor should you feel anything on the line of loyalty. I think you're way off though when you state that it can't be changed. It has before.. It can be again.
Splitting up into smaller factions weakens your fight. It's simple math in that case but add in a touch psychology.
People, no matter what you want to believe won't support in large enough numbers a group that has a very small chance of winning.
Maybe in 10 or 20 years, the Libertarian leaning parties will be big enough to sway elections but that's a big if at this point and I can't wait that long when I think there is a much better and faster way of doing it... even if it disgusts me a bit to do it.
Keep in mind here as I stated before.. the repube party HAS been changed from the inside before. It has experienced mini-movements. I know this to be fact and very evident to those that can remember a couple of decades of history.
You do what you feel you have to and don't take this statement the wrong way but I'm going to fight against people following your line of thinking because I think strategically it's the wrong move even though I understand why you think it.. trust me, I love the idea of it too.
