I asked him if the votes in Washington county would be counted. He said no they would not be because of the rules. He gave me a very long answer but the short answer is no they would not be counted.
Please, EVERYONE call that office.
He used the logic that the snow was 10 inches and one guy died fromt he storm. He used that as justification for them cancelling the caucus. I said thats fine and well but after the storm they should reconvene, have the caucus, and count the vote. He then said thats not how it works. All the counties had up until the 11th to hold their caucuses and report their vote and Washington county didnt. Then he argued that its really a beauty contest and there wouldnt be enough votes to even matter. I argued back saying EVERY voter should have their vote counted.
I also argued that if there was indeed a good reason to postpone the causcus which I gave him the benefit of the doubt due to the snow storm that AFTER the storm they should reconvene and count the vote. It was the officials who canclled the caucus not the voters, and since that was the case the officials should reschedule the caucus and then COUNT their vote. He argued that there was a snow storm. I then interjected and told him again since there was a valid reason to postpone the vote, then there should be an exception to the Feb 11 deadline. He then gave me a scenario that if you were out of town on the 11th and miss the causcus then your out of luck. I told him thats not the case. I told him people were IN TOWN but the OFFICIALS CANCELLED the caucus. It was the officials who cancelled the caucus. It wasnt that the people were out of town that prevented them from voting, it was the cancellation of the caucus.
He was continuously interrupting me. I then tried to explain that every vote should count and I can understand the postponement of the caucus due to the snow storm, but I cant understand why they would then turn around and when they had a chance to reschedule the caucus NOT count the votes due to a rule. I said there should be an exception to this rule due to the circumstances.
Well then when I told him that he said he already explained the rules and then hung up on me. The funny thing is during the entire conversation he kept saying he understands. Apparently he does NOT understand. He doesnt understand how wrong this is. He kept trying to justify it by saying its a beauty show and there would have only been a few voters to show up. This isnt the point. I dont care if there is only 1 voter, that one voters vote SHOULD COUNT!
I called back and on the 3rd time I someone picked up. It was a girl. I told her the votes in Washington county should count and asked why they wouldnt. She said I would have to talk with the GOP chairman Charlie Webster. I asked her if she would take down my name and number and have him call me and asked if he would call me today. She said yes.
Folks, its not up to the officials to determine what votes to count or not count, and *IF* there is a good reason to cancel the caucus, then there should be an exception to their get the votes in by the 11th rule. This is insane. Their logic makes no sense, and when you clearly articulate it to them and ask them if they think thats fair they hand up on you. They KNOW they are WRONG, and everyone else does to. It's clear they do NOT want Ron Paul to win.

Actually, no.
Hillary was the Romney of that election... everyone insisted that she was the frontrunner for the nomination and that Obama's ceiling would be a close second. Then, Obama started winning caucuses and gathering delegates, and the DNC had to take him seriously.
That could be us this year... we just have to stay vigilant and defend against the GOP's dirty tricks.

Might I suggest that you recognize that the head of the GOP in Maine is not the highest rung on the ladder. If ANY, and it would be VERY unlikely that it isn't, taxpayer money was used in holding this 'election' then start beating on the door of the Maine Secretary of State, League of Women Voters, BlackBoxVoting, and whomever else you can think of to scream voter fraud since not counting someones vote (be it a beauty pagent or not) is clearly that. SOS is over this douche's head, go there.
In the meantime, make this personal. Get him ousted as well as get the names of all that participated in making these bogus decisions. Publish names to all in Maine, Washington County, as well as the other there that had already scheduled caucus for later dates than Feb 11th. Let them know that THESE specific people are making sure your voices are not heard and maybe they shouldn't be welcome in your cofy shops, gas stations, grocery stores either. They want to hold a position that supposedly reflects the opinions of the public? Fine, show them PERSONALLY the opinion of the public.

Waldo County-Belfast
GOP state spread sheet reflects -0- for Belfast.
County chair bunched over 120 vote count held Feb 4th in Belfast to state GOP. State GOP pitched all the votes out because they weren't broken down by the towns on the state sheet.
Paul would have had a small gain on the state total by at least 6 votes from whats figured so far.
How many other votes were pitched and not shown on the state sheet?
Waldo County vote was down 72% versus 2008
