ATTN: Pennsylvania Ron Paul Supporters
Submitted by DanInPhilly on Tue, 02/14/2012 - 12:40Hello Pennsylvania Ron Paul Supporters.
One major milestone happens today, we submit signatures to the Pennsylvania Dept of State to get Ron Paul and Ron Paul delegates onto the upcoming April 24 Primary Ballot. There have been ample posts discussing this so I won't rehash them.
We have four BIG milestones ahead of us.
FIRST, February 21 is the last day for our nomination petitions to be challenged.
SECOND, February 29 is the last day for the Court of Common Pleas or Commonwealth Court to render decisions on any objections to nomination petitions.
THIRD, March 26, is the last day to register Republican. Pennsylvania conducts closed primaries so you must be registered Republican 30 days prior to the Primary to cast a ballot. Visit this Penna Dept of State page https://www.pavoterservices.state.pa.us/Pages/VoterRegistrat... to check your voter reg to make sure you are Republican. If not Republican or not registered, follow the links on the left of the above page to get it fixed!
FOURTH, April 24 is the Primary Election.
Assuming RP and delegates withstand challenges and get on the ballot, the fourth milestone needs to be discussed.
In Pennsylvania, 59** of the 72 total delegates to the national convention are elected by voters (3 each from the 18 congressional districts, plus 1 additional bonus delegate to the 5 congressional districts that have best supported GOP candidates over the last 4 years). There is no designation on the voting machine that links delegates to candidates because these 59 delegates are uncommitted.
Therefore, getting Pennsylvania Ron Paul delegates to the convention means winning 18 separate elections.
In some districts this could be a daunting task if the other delegates on the ballot are household names within the district--if so, any voters so inclined to vote for delegates will recognize the household name (political principle of "name recognition".) In other districts, say those that cross municipal or county lines in more populated areas, a name that works for one municipality may be a cypher in an adjoining municipality, thus opening up an opportunity for an equally "no name" Ron Paul delegate to get elected. Once the full opposition delegate field is known in a day or two, that analysis has to happen in order for us to marshall limited resources to where they will be most effective.
Pennsylvania Ron Paul delegates need to start organizing by congressional district. These districts must start NOW in the task of identifying RP supporters within each district, reruiting willing supporters to function in the ward/division/precinct grass roots level.
Pennsylvania Ron Paul supporters who have blogged for Paul, posted for Paul and have flame-warred for Paul, will now have to get out from behind keyboards and into the real world and turn out the vote for Paul (in the form of Paul delegates). Turnout in Pennsylvania Republican primaries is usually low, so as we have seen elsewhere, a smaller cadre of dedicated workers who can turn out the vote are going to be the key to success. It's not going to take much money to do this....it is going to take "shoe leather" and the time of dedicated RP supporters.
The election is only 69 days away and we have LOTS of work to do!

Who are the Paul delegates in each district?
.
Why do you need to know the delegate candidates in ALL districts
Answer: you don't. You only need to know your own and POSSIBLY the ones in the districts immediately around you where you might help out AFTER you are successful in getting enough votes for yours in your district elected.
Only the campaign and our foes need to know ALL our delegates from all the districts.
I know mine because I work
I know mine because I work for that district and others. I think there should be a list put out. Where are you? I can find out for you.
Another correction...
Some PA districts get 4 delegates.
I'm hoping the re-districting will erase some of that "household name recognition".....
I'll be voting for a RP
I'll be voting for a RP delegate that also has two first names. He-he!
good info
Just to clarify Feb 21st is the last day for the various factions within the party to battle against each other's delegate and candidate signee lists, correct? There is really nothing the majority of us can do regarding this part, our big part was getting signatures and turning them in for today's turn-in.
There was a post the other day with the voter turnout from 08 and it showed that RP had 129k in PA back in 08. Not sure if that was accurate but that would be the biggest group yet. So, while Maine churned out 2k, PA is by no means a "small group" if those numbers from 08 were accurate. We can compete and we can compete big time. Just need to remind folks why Santorum was not re-elected in 06.
PA demographics have us as 2nd or 3rd in the nation of senior citizens this is probably part of why turnout is fairly solid.
FYI
2008 Primary Results from http://www.electionreturns.state.pa.us/ElectionsInformation....
MCCAIN, JOHN (REP)
595,175 72.9%
PAUL, RON (REP)
129,323 15.8%
HUCKABEE, MIKE (REP)
92,430 11.3%
Those results were even after
Those results were even after McCain had secured the nomination. RP ran radio ads here in PA for our primary. The "protest vote" really started then. I think we've done a good job organizing so far in the Harrisburg Metro/Central PA area. We did well in 08 with one county getting around 20% of the vote. Things look to be even more exciting this go around.
