Ron Paul should contest Michigan - Please Upvote!

I think contesting in Michigan needs to be a key part of our strategy. I think we are poised to do well in Wyoming and especially Washington, however I think a strong showing and ideally a win in one of the two upcoming primary states will be crucial to building momentum for Super Tuesday.

Ron Paul is polling in 3rd in Michigan with an achievable gap of 14 points between him and Mitt Romney. A strong campaign combined with the very public reversal of the result from Maine could be enough to push him over the hump.

Furthermore according to Green Papers, delegate selection in the Michigan primary is proportional statewide (winner-take-all by district). We should put all our chips down in Michigan now in order to keep this campaign from becoming a curiosity after the Super Tuesday vote.

Let's you and me make a

difference and funk the system. Let's vote, convince, share, love, and get active at the precinct level, and more... Do your part and you shall prevail.

Peace, liberty, bless, and more always in all ways,

Since Michigan is

winner-take all by congressional district, why not cherry pick
the likeliest districts and concentrate efforts there? (same with Ohio)
Hope they have the polling available to know where the best prospects
are.

Time to pump up the anti-war theme! A surprising number of
people are not buying the hype for pushing us into war this time.
Ron Paul is *the* obvious candidate for those folks- if they make the
connection soon enough.

Are we not getting ahead of ourselves,

We are not even attempting to get the vote out in Maine this Saturday that should be our main focus.

If voting could really change things,
it would be illegal. Here is hoping for change!

And that opinion is exactly what will doom the campaign

Time does not stop. 2/28: AZ, MI. 3/3 WA and 10 more on 3/6

In all of those for which any polling data is available, RP trails either badly or close enough that with great eforts by the base he may be able to get within striking distance of 2nd place.

This notion that somehow flipping the Maine vote totals to be 200 more for RP than Romney (a 400 vote swing) is going to matter is fantasy. I've already pointed out that the "win" by Santorum in IA - which came a week later - did nothing to help him in NH, SC or FL. It was Newts implosion which opend the door for Santorum, not being declared the winner by a very small margin belatedly in a prior state.

So RP "winning" ME a week after is not going to damage Santorum. It will probably not even damage Romney as at this point anybody who cares about margin of victory knows that at best he eeked out ME. Might it take a few from Newt? Perhaps. But unless you have not been paying attention, its all about stopping Santorum now.

But Santorum

simply will not fly in many parts of the country, and to the extent that
he does, he is far more vulnerable than Romney on electability issues.
If Romney fades, Santorum will be the easier opponent..

Most people in this state

Feel forgotten by the system. They are filled to the brim with desperation. Dr. Paul has a way of inspiring hope in times like these. I feel 3-4 stops in the state would be like an arctic blast of fresh air rushing in, and sweeping the population. I'd suggest Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Detroit/Ann Arbor, and one location in the upper part of the lower peninsula. This would go a very long ways in not only the primary, but also the general election. If he comes, I hope he brings a butt load of bumper stickers, and yard signs, because I've seen about 2 Ron Paul signs so far. I haven't seen any other candidate period.

Michigan is all about one thing!

JOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RP doesn't need a big campaign here. He only needs to spread the word that his platform would be the greatest job creating engine the world has ever seen. If that message gets out, then this state is his. Trust me. JOBS is a huge issue here! Our manufacturing district has been gutted.

With only getting a quarter

With only getting a quarter of what he hoped for in the money bomb, he simply doesn't have enough money to go after all the states you want him to.

Really?

Then how is Santorum doing it? Even counting any recent funds he still must be last of the four still in it as far a money raised. Yet he leads not just in the upcoming primary states (except AZ) but in the national polls.

TV news is free. Local talk radio is free. Show up in the state and campaign for a few days. And don't just do trips to UM or MSU. Go to the pandle. The suburbs of Detroit.

Michigan can be a very unpredictable for the RNC, in 2000 George W. Bush was considered a slam dunk here but John McCain came out of nowhere to pull off a huge upset and it finished former Gov. John Englers career in the GOP. If we get a big turnout in the many major college precincts and especially crossover democrats from the eastside of the state it could be an interesting night.

I agree

How much does it cost to have our guy stop at MSU and hold a rally which would draw media coverage

DEMOCRATS!

They will be voting for Paul.....much more work to do........

did you make arrangments

to drive them to the polls too? Unless you see them go in the door they are just 'hoped for' 3 votes. Hell I would go as far as bribery.. 'lets go for beers (coffee) after voting' anything to get them in the door.

When all else fails

use free. Someone made a post before on how this works but I can tell you the more I see a person's name the more apt I am to vote for them.

Park cars with RP signs, put one in each store, no tax on tips, etc.

Michigan should have priority

Michigan should have priority over Arizona, in my opinion.

I live in Arizona, where Paul has some tactical disadvantages: large populations of old people (Sun City, Prescott) and Mormons (the fifth highest percentage in the U.S.). Jeff Flake (who coincidentally is running for Senate this year) has endorsed Romney because they're both Mormons. Dan Quayle (Ben Quayle's dad) has also endorsed Romney. Also, Arizona is a winner-take-all state, similar in delegate allocation to Florida.

Michigan, however, has much better prospects. I don't know as much about Michigan because I don't live there. But if I am correct, you guys have a few great Tea Party congressmen (Huizenga, Amash, Walberg, Upton) who could possibly give Paul some authority. And with Michigan's proximity to Pennsylvania, voters can know more about Santorum's failures and hypocrisy.

I would recommend resources to go toward Michigan as opposed to Arizona. Although since Washington state has its caucuses, perhaps Paul should simply skip these two and go straight to Washington? That looks like the campaign's current plan right now.

Yes, focus on WA...

...a win in WA is achievable and would set us up very nicely for Super Tuesday, where we should focus on only the caucus States. We need a win going into Super Tuesday, WA could be that win. MI much less likely - AZ I agree with you is even less likely.

Plus...it's just fun to say WAWAWAWAWAWAWA.

I think I'll adopt that as my daily greeting, in place of "hello," if we win WA.

We need to contest Michigan*

As stated by other posters below, the campaigns resources are at a minimum, and even though they stand a good chance at doing well in the state, it isn't the best allocation of resources at the moment. That is where we come in.

We need to ask ourselves how much we care about winning this. We talk about the power of the grassroots, and it is time we back it up. My hat goes off to those who have been tirelessly crusading day and night or otherwise giving it all they've got, but people like myself who have been operating at partial capacity by just donating and doing light canvassing need to amp it up. I will be writing a dedicated post on this matter in the very near future, but in the mean time, we need to get some buzz going for our campaign.

I hope this doesn't come off as negative, because it is not. I believe we can win this. I KNOW we can. And we not only can win, but we must win. We have the enthusiasm, the dedication, and most importantly, we have the truth on our side. Now or never!

Agreed - Limited Resource Problem

About $35 million more is all that would be needed to take advantage of all these fantastic opportunities. Unfortunately, we are still a small group of grass roots supporters...so another $35 million from this current group is not possible. So, it is more of a question of allocation of very limited resources.

Instead of trying to get more time and money from the same loyalists, we need to get more people involved.

There are about 120 million people with jobs in the USA. Everyone one of the them can benefit from this campaign. Everyone one of them will lose (big time) if this campaign does not reach it's full potential.

ONLY three percent of that group would constitute 3.6 million members of the group. If they only gave ten dollars each - ten measly dollars - that would give us $36 million!

Only three percent of job holders giving us ten dollars each would put this thing over the top!!!

If anyone can come up with an idea to tap this group - three percent of job holders - let me know.

Text Bomb

Duh. I know there is an attempt to pass legislation here in NYC to allow Text in Campaign donations, there is also a law that passed in CA that already "permits" this. Not exactly sure how this sort of thing can be legislated. There is probably some arcane FCC and or FEC law that prohibits this..but it is worth a shot to see if this can be achieved on a national level.

Clearly this allows you to reach a large number of people and it makes it easy for them to donate a nominal amount of money like you suggested.

so much for that idea

"FEC SAYS NO TO POLITICAL DONATIONS VIA TEXT:The Federal Election Commission has rejected a proposal to allow small campaign contributions of $10 to political candidates, parties and political action committees donated through text messages."

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2010/12/no-text-message-camp...

What a shame

That could have been a really good tool. I know it's easier said than done, but we need to expand our pool. So many voters just want to back the lead horse, whoever it may be. We need to generate some of the buzz that the MSM is so fond of artificially creating for Bachmann/Perry/Cain/Newt/Santorum/etc. People like Rush and Hannity list 3 candidates when they talk about the election. We need to make it so that the more they ignore Ron Paul they stupider they look.

I am forwarding this thread to....

... the author of The Bain Report in Michigan....

The deliberate Marxist tanking of this economy through political cronyism and moral compromise, in pursuit of the love of money carrot-and-stick approach(Federal Reserve bubble)cost me and my family a successful budding career that I loved! Ron Paul 2012

Great state for crossover voters!

Michigan has NO party affiliation listed on their voters registration, you select your party affiliation AT THE POLLS!

That means anyone can vote for Paul. Yahoo!

the guy stays at the super 8

The campaign needs money. If finances were not a tremendous concern he would be working every corner of Michigan right now. Essentially he is doing the best with what he has been given by us. Perhaps we need to focus on raising money, not just donating.

Betting it all a Michigan seems a risky strategy for a campaign trying maximize its delegate total in every state through the entire primary season. This is an exceptionally risky strategy in Mittens own back yard and only worthy of consideration if you were completely oblivious to the GOP's power to control the outcome of these elections. See Maine. Betting the future on anyone state is a bad idea for anyone with a long term strategy. The possibility of election freud only cements my opposition to this strategy.

Michigan is an open state. Perhaps we should focus on democrats and independents if we want this election. They are the real key to victory if at all possible and free of cost to the campaign...

I don't know anyone who likes

I don't know anyone who likes Mitt as strange as that might be.

Michigan voters

Let's be careful not to misinterpret "Smitten with the Mitten" http://michiganawesome.myshopify.com/products/smitten-with-t...

A Mitten of a less functional and not-so-cozy variety will be in Grand Rapids on Wednesday.

I talk to everyone I know about Ron Paul. I'm not aggressive about it. I just ask them to vote in the primary even if they intend to do something else in the general. There is a new generation of Christians in this town disgusted by the Republican Party but grew up very conservative households. They don't know any different, but are happy to rebel... but not too much.

So far everyone I've spoken to is willing to at least vote Paul in the primary.

Most importantly there is misinformation floating around. People here have the impression that you can only vote in the primary if you are a registered Republican. This is NOT true. You may vote if you are a registered voter. You just need to ask for a Republican ballot.

If you live in Michigan please gently ask for a vote. If you know someone in Michigan make a phone call, send a quick email, or text. It just might work.

The possibility of a Republican party implosion has been a very convincing argument.

And

I am sure to only mention it once. I don't want to come across as zealous. It's unbecoming.

He would be a big hit

He only needs to make a stop or two like the GM plant for one and the media outlets would do the rest. I work for Harley Davidson and Ron Paul speaks what union workers want to hear. As long as the company is allowed to be prosperous and the product is in demand, the less likely they are to attack your benefits. When a company starts to bleed is when the union workers suffer the most, and a guy like Romney comes in to start chopping heads and outsource work.
