BREAKING NEWS! Is Texas planning something underhanded?
Submitted by Deet on Wed, 02/15/2012 - 13:27While I am not entirely sure what is going on here, given recent developments, it seems that this might be an opening for some shenanigans in Texas coming our way! Please leave any info or comments below! Here is an excerpt from the email I received today.
"Because the Texas Democratic Party's lawyers backed up Chairman Munisteri's testimony at the hearing that it is practically not possible to move the State Conventions at this late date, one thing we know for sure (and the Court is aware of this fact), is that you can't schedule the primary after the State Conventions unless (as the Democratic lawyer stated) the State Parties can find a field somewhere to hold their conventions and if we could guarantee good weather.
Chairman Munisteri testified to the Court that it would be impossible to select delegates in accordance with the process prescribed in the Election Code, if the primary was not held until May 29th and the state convention began on June 7th. However, the Court signaled that it would be open to judicial relief to allow the State Parties to select their delegates in a way that didn't require precinct conventions to be tied to the primary. The Texas Democratic Party lawyer went a step further and argued that even though the Election Code prescribes the process, that it is their position that the Election Code is unenforceable because the political parties are private organizations and thus they could change their rules without a court order. The RPT believes it would be risky to do so and prefers the route of obtaining judicial permission prior to such action. In the event the Court schedules a May primary, Chairman Munisteri plans to schedule an emergency teleconference with all SREC members and Republican County Chairs to discuss alternative processes for picking State Convention delegates, in the hopes of coming to a consensus as to what to suggest to the court for relief."

Sounds like they're planning:
1.) To hold focus on the straw vote pageant = distract.
2.) Call a separate caucus planning for delegate selection and rule changes by teleconference setting the participation barrier high, changeable without much notification and as confusing as possible for new voters and non-establishment members = suppression.
3.) Be as non-public in delegate selection as possible knowing Ron Paul would be strong in Texas = secret, unauditable central count.
4.) Not be sued or garner negative backlash and press for it, with prior court clearance = alibi, deniability.
Basically Iowa, Nevada and Maine redux.
Good blog about
Texas Politics and the primary.

The BUsh crime family runs the GOP
We know what BUsh said about dictatorships. Texas GOP just call off the primary and declare who they are goning to install. Outragous that a political party can run rough shod over the people. Liars theives and chickenhawk murderers.

Call your precinct chairs!
Offer to lend any support you can give which may end up helping to count the votes or even assist with the election judge. If you do this, you're in a much better position to be considered for a delegate or at least alternate delegate position for the state convention.
To answer your thread title
To answer your thread title question, yes, yes they are planning something sneaky and corrupt. I am shocked though. Perry isn't in the race. One would think that the Texas GOP would fully get behind Ron Paul.

Not sure what this means but
Not sure what this means but I contacted my county party HQ and left a message that I am recently back in the area and wanted to help the party in any way I could. Also I am interested in becoming a delegate to help ensure that a republican takes POTUS. Well I never got a call back. Maybe they checked my FB page.....lots of Dr. Paul posts. :)
Truth before all else.....it is what will allow us to emerge with dignity and honor.
General rule is that if you
General rule is that if you want to get something done, don't wait for a call back. Call again and again.

could help us in end
I am curious if this could end up helping us in the end. I've been trying to figure out about the process in TX and it's pretty confusing. I want to do everything possible to help our cause(ie become a delegate). Can't imagine the others supporters going thru the trouble of figuring it out. Another issue is the local municipalities want to hold their elections on the same day. It's a logistical nightmare. Any advice from someone here in TX than done this before?
2008 Was My First Year...
2008 Was my first year moving up the process to the state convention. The Democratic and Republican primaries are different in Texas I believe. I'm not sure about the Dems, but this is how it works in the Republican Primaries...
Texas is an OPEN primary and ANYONE can vote in EITHER the Republican OR Democratic primaries...not both.
Early Voting - Vote in a voting booth or by mail, early if you want. This is for the straw vote.
Voting Day - Vote as normal in the voting booth for Ron Paul, but you must also show up to your precinct polling location at least 1HR before the polls close, and ask an election official, "Where is the "Precinct Convention for Precinct #__________"? Or look for a posted sign...it should be there.
Generally very few people show up to these things, and you may be the only one there or the only one willing to take charge. If this happens, you must have an official meeting by yourself. Retrieve your precinct package from the polling officials, and follow the direction inside carefully. You will have to represent all your precinct votes at the next level, the Senatorial Convention.
If there are more people that also show up, anyone that wants to be a delegate can be one, provided there are enough slots allocated to your precinct. It may have 25, it may only have 2 delegates depending on population.
You will have official party business I think, like perhaps voting on State GOP Rules, Convention Rules, Party Platform, Amending things, etc. and then it will come time to vote on delegates. If multiple people want to go to the next level, and there are only a few slots open, you have to have a vote and get others to vote for you to represent the precinct. Bring friends to vote for you.
Senatorial Convention - Make sure you know this date, and make sure you study Robert's Rules of Order. A similar, but more formal process will take place here. This will be all the Precinct Delegates from your Texas Senatorial District I believe. You will do the same process of official party business and vote on rules for the State Convention. The party insiders will try to vote themselves in leadership positions and make rules that benefit themselves. You must be respectful, and you must know all the rules and how to speak up. You will then vote on delegates to move up to the State Republican Convention.
State Convention - Same process only way bigger and way more authoritarian-style operations. This is where they will try to weed out all the RP supporters, but we will have the majority and vote ourselves as leaders, like in Iowa! We will vote on the Official TX GOP Party Platform and other official business and then vote on delegates to the National Convention.
The whole way through the process the established GOP insiders continuously stack the Senatorial Delegate Assemblies, by voting to allow delegates that they appointed to represent precincts where no one show up. They do this to shift the numbers in their favor.
I hope that helps! I haven't made it to the National Convention yet, but maybe this year will be the year!
Hope to see you there!

Here's how you do it.
Go vote on primary day. Polls usually close at 7:00 pm, but will need to check. Go back to your polling place about 30 minutes before polls close. Then you will get to vote again. If it is a big crowd, they will separate you by who you vote for. You get in a line and write your name and address on the sheet of paper with Ron Paul's name. Every precinct may differ, it depends on how the organizers set it up. I am just remembering how I did it when I caucused in 2008. They had several groups for Hillary and several for Obama. After you vote again they will start the delegate process. I don't really know exactly what is done, but just stay late after you vote. BE SURE AND CHECK THIS BEFORE YOU CAUCUS!!--Sometimes you don't caucus at the place where you voted.
I'm convinced
Perry's role all along has been to co-opt the Texas primary FOR the GOP.

Republicans and the redistricting nightmare
Even though the state votes almost all republican, the greedy GOP wanted to make sure there were no "blue (democrat) dots on any of the map. The redistricting is to split up largely Hispanic and Black voting districts who mostly vote democrat. We usually have our primary/caucus in March, but because of this mess we don't know when it will be.
Yea, but
the part I am concerned about is, "Chairman Munisteri plans emergency teleconference to discuss alternative processes for picking State Convention delegates"! Sounds like "Let's find a way to keep Paul supporters OUT"!
Texas? Do something underhanded?!
Color me surprised. /rolleyes

If the GOP was fair to Ron Paul,
it would be one thing, but they are anything but fair. I don't see how he can't entertain the possibilty of bolting third party. I'm beginning to believe that the GOP is not going to let Ron Paul be their nominee no matter what. It's their party, and they can cheat if they want to. There's not a whole lot of recourse. Go ahead Ron, ride the GOP as long as it's beneficial in debates, but bolt libertarian when the time is right. I think the money raising will skyrocket. I think a lot of people are holding back because they sense that the GOP is not going to allow a Ron Paul nomination, by hook or crook.

Agreed
I'm behind you Ron, but the GOP is corrupt beyond repair.
The GOP would LOVE nothing
The GOP would LOVE nothing more than Paul going third party! He would be GONE from the media, gone from the ballots, and gone from any chance of winning anything or getting any more supporters! Not a good idea.
Exactly
Besides, I look at it as Dr. Paul basically trolling the entire GOP.
u mad, neocons?
