Should the poor vote - Ron Paul?
Submitted by Fireworks on Wed, 02/15/2012 - 17:23I keep asking myself is it right for me to ask people who are poor or receive gov. assistance to vote for Ron Paul. If he becomes president will these people end up on the street or sick and starving. I don't have it in me to want to hurt anyone.
update - Thanks for all your help and comments on this subject.

You can escape poverty via freedom or violence
If you choose the former, vote for Ron Paul.
If you choose the latter, any of the others will do.
Severe cut back of gov = severe upswing in economy. AKA JOBS
You wouldn't have a heart NOT to tell them about Ron Paul!
Look at it from this angle...
Why shouldn't the poor vote for Ron Paul?
Rhetorical question sure but it goes to prove that people do not yet understand how his policies will benefit them.
Take his policies on income tax both personal and corporate and sound money.
The results of those two policies will undoubtedly result in increased confidence in businesses both small and large. We will begin to settle the monetary policy issues that have created uncertainty and restore some sanity to markets.
When businesses are confident they invest. When investment takes place at all levels opportunities are created. Opportunities means more jobs. More jobs means individuals have more income and maybe most importantly, they can take care of themselves!
Poor people only have what the government allows them to have. Most people want more out of life and would welcome the opportunity to do better for themselves. When they see their neighbor do it and escape from that life that will motivate others to follow suit.
In this environment, because confidence is being restored and people and businesses are doing better, there will be more money to go to charities to help people if individuals don't do it themselves to help.
"Criticizing Ron Paul for not passing bills in Congress is like criticizing a nun in a whore house for not turning tricks. He was there to stop the "whoring," not become one!" ~ Blake Buffington
Liberty and Freedom appeal to both the poor & middle class
I find that most people are happy to discuss freedom from an oppressive system that has held them down and back for generations.
My enemies enemy is my friend. The art is to find common ground without sounding like your trying to sell them something.
A vote for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil.
A vote for liberty is always a vote for liberty.
I will vote for Ron Paul as either the nominee or as a write in.

You don't have to worry.
Nobody is going to be hurt.
They are all going to be much better off than they are now.
Seriously?
It does not matter what government assistance programs are in place if the government has no money to give out. Not to mention if we keep printing money and running up the debt at the rate we are, the inflation will be so bad that whatever assistance people receive will be worthless. The best chance we have in America is Dr. Paul, weather you are poor, middle class or upper middle class. No offense but if you have to ask this question I think you are in the wrong place.
He won't cut programs that
He won't cut programs that people depend on, and leaves it to the states. Ends mandated health care, eliminates income tax.
A Wall Steet Journal economist went trough the numbers and said Paul's tax plan would create a historic influx of jobs into the US.
A lot of those jobs would be in manufacturing, transport, construction etc. the kind of real jobs where stuff gets produced instead of just ink on paper and where you don't need a stack of degrees to apply.
I don't think you'll find a better plan for the poor to middle incomes with any other candidate, Obama included. And that's not even getting into how the current economic system is responsible for a lot of poverty and a declining middle class and how Ron Paul would open the door to a better system. One that doesn't need a ton of regulation to be fair.

Exactly like a liberal would
Exactly like a liberal would think.
And a conservative will say that we cannot disengage militarily because they need our "stability".
You have a flawed understanding of how the world works.
your right
almost, I was raised liberal but choose Ron Paul for myself. I continue to learn so much from the Daily Paul. It's just that this subject doesn't get talked about much around here so I thought id ask.
I don't have a pot to piss in...
...or a window to throw it out of...and I have been through my own pesonal HELL getting my family out of a HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT dump, gaining employment, proving my pursuit and support for what I believe this Republic is supposed to be - and I will continue to do so!!!

In 2008, I ran for State Rep. 3rd Party in southeast Michigan while unemployed!, because the county Republican party is behaving just like we know Iowa, Nevada and Maine are right NOW ... I am ALL IN for this campaign!!!
I have (5) children - and I will have NO REGRETS that I stood up for what I believe since late 2007!!! We'll just have to beat this drum until they get it!; we are DEAD SERIOUS about taking our country back!

The deliberate Marxist tanking of this economy through political cronyism and moral compromise, in pursuit of the love of money carrot-and-stick approach(Federal Reserve bubble)cost me and my family a successful budding career that I loved! Ron Paul 2012
Why?
"If he becomes president will these people end up on the street or sick and starving." Why do you assume this? Where is your proof that people get sick and starve without government?
It was written like a
It was written like a question without a question mark.
DUH!
Yes they should vote for him! He's not going to end all of that ...probably won't even get to that while he is in office. He said that his cuts in the first three years will make it so he doesn't have to touch social security, medicare, medicaid, head start, food stamps...etc. The economy will start to get better and then they will try to start slowly phasing things out.

The unfortunate truth
is very many Americans will become poor when the dollar crashes.
You have to understand that real wealth doesn't come from the government. People create wealth. Money is just used as an exchange and store of this wealth.
The current system is set up incorrectly if you are humane and believe in fairness. The system we have rewards the rich, and corrupt or immoral behavior, including illegal warfare. Distorted markets and crony capitalism make it hard for the truly productive in society to compete for the benefit of all.
At the same time by depreciating and inflating the currency you automatically transfer wealth from lower to upper classes, creating more poor. We're seeing this phenomenon accelerate currently.
So, whether Ron Paul becomes president or not, the truth is we need to replace our current monetary system. That will happen, I assure you.
Yes, I would
He has the best plan for allowing the poor the chance they need to not be poor anymore.

Yes
Although I have never taken government assistance, I have been homeless several times throughout the past decade, and if I were still homeless today I'd vote for Dr. Paul. My personal motto is "a man has got to stand on his own two feet".
I believe that taking assistance creates a mentality that someone's always going to be there to bail you out-- no strings attached. I've always looked at it as stealing. If I wanted other people's money, I would've stood out on a corner and held out a cup. Can't find a job? Then create one.
Also, in my experience, most homeless choose to be because of their own actions. I mean, why bother working when you know you're going to be taken care of by others?
A signature used to be here!
...black slaves received assistance (food, housing, clothing, health care) from massuh.
If you were around then, would you have refrained from advocating their freedom because you "don't want to hurt anyone"?
you have to claify poor or
you have to claify poor or happily unemployed.
If you mean poor of course they should vote for Ron Paul. He is the best bet for this economy so every american should. My job is one of the 5 departments getting axes when he takes office. I understand big spending is unsustainable and we need to do something before it is to late.
I'm talking about if somebody
I'm talking about if somebody is receiving sec. 8 or food stamps. It seems these programs are a cover up for the robbery, it lets people survive even though the dollar is almost worthless, otherwise we would see much more homelessness, etc. I know and tell them many I repeat many good reasons to vote for Ron Paul but the thing that allows them to have a roof would be axed.
Obama really has his voters
Obama really has his voters in the palm of his hand doesn't he. Food lines and communism seem to go hand in hand. The Communist Party controls every aspect of economic activity.
History has shown us what being dependent on government looks like, and it isn't a pretty picture.
