Just had a long talk with Obama canvassers- important notes
Two Obama canvassers came to my door today. I engaged them in a long conversation. I was curious why someone would be for Obama.
They were very polite and we both expressed appreciation for the others good manners and enthusiasm.
The down side is that many of my suspicions about them were correct and the MSM's view of Ron Paul seems to be beaten into thier head.
I also found it sad that they seemed to want the same things we do. The reasons they want Obama are exactly Paul's campaign stances, but they are swayed by his hearttfelt speeches and the fuzzy feeling they get from watching him.
Here's what i was told in a nutshell:
1. They think he will get us out of Iraq.
2. They see him as a uniter that will stretch across party lines.
3. They believe he opposed the war.
4. They say he has principal and does things that may be unpopular. They claim his run for senate was unpopular and he perservered.
5. They claim that electing someone of mixed race is redeeming and that the world sees our support for him and it changes they're view of us "maybe were not so bad".
6. The girl expressed fear about the overturning of Roe vs Wade. When i asked here would'nt she rather have a voice in her local government and make the decision for herself in state government, rather than have a supreme court judgement she could do nothing about if conserative judges overturned it, she didn't really have an answer, but went back to him being pro abortion and scaring her about what he would do in office.
7. He's "Electable"
Overall I was left with the impression that even though they seemed of like mind in many ways, having a "rock star" style candidate with big dreams, big promises and a different complexion meant hope and real change.
The reasons for not going with Paul were predictabel and kind of annoying.
"He's not electable" I was asked twice who my second choice was. Even when i said unelectable just meant that they wouldn't vote thier concience and believed media hype they agreed. Didn't change thier mind though.
The abortion issue
Overall it just came down to he wasn't "shiny" enough for lack of a better simile.
They were polite and very cordial. I was just sad they could see past the glamour and the polularity garbage.
I hope these notes give some insight into what your gonna see when you try to convert Obama people.
The facts aren't always gonna matter.

I told a former Obama supporter today (now Ron Paul) that, if all you had to give up to get world peace is you would use a condom, wouldn't you do it? And he is going to cancel your income tax.
The neo-liberal media has been misleading the public about Ron Paul's position about inter-racial every day relationships (he's all for it) and his position on abortion (he doesn't believe it's his job as president to decide).
There needs to be some ads out there addressing these very real issues.
Ron Paul has been lied about and smeared in the neo-liberal press and we need to present the actual picture for people who just want to vote for the right person who is going to end the war.
Obama told AIPAC at their convention, to which he was invited, attended, and received generous donations from, that he would not rule out bombing Iran "with missile strikes" and regardless, would never lift the sanctions on Iran. That should convince them. Google "Obama strikes Iran" He's the candidate for change because he wants to bomb Iran instead of Iraq.

of Mass Media Dysfunction...where image is more important than substance..That's why our country is in such a mess...If Obama gets the nomination...he's not going to be so "electable" when they look at his heritage of radical 60s style socialism and his disturbing embrace of reverse racial politics....

I don't think we should concintrate on converting them to our side. I think it's MOST important to make sure that independents and republicans are looking at RON PAUL!
We need the republican nomination, let the dems fight it out on their side. Obama campaigning change. This is good. I want him to win the dem nomination. Because, as one woman said on the radio today,"Obama stance on issues carry about as much fluff and substance as cotton candy.
If Obama and Paul go head to head as the nominees, Obama won't stand a chance.
Let's focus on the republicans, independents and the apathetics.

Obama vs Paul is the ideal arrangement but it is NOT going to be easy.

Do they want a North American Union? When you help people too much, you hurt them. Look what the government has done to mortgages. He talks about change, but everyone is just another degree of what we have except Dr. Paul. Dr. Paul is the only changer. All the others are basically on the same side. History can prove that. Looking back, how much difference can you see in the presidency. What about getting rid of IRS. That should be a biggy for every American.

I have preached many many MANY times about we are in a position to obtain help from all other candidates supporters... Ron Paul is resonating with alot of them, but the *I DONT THINK HE IS ELECTIBLE* mountain is hard to overcome - it will take time and patience...

If you held a gun to my head and said I had to vote for a democrat I would vote for Obama. But he won't be the candidate. The Clinton machine will destroy him they are just biding their time. Remember that the Clintons have their beurocrats still in the CIA, NSA, and FBI. They must have a file on that poor man 10 ft tall. When she unleashes through her agents it will be unreal.
So when he is brought down hopefully Ron will still be in the race and we can get them on our side.

They came to you, so you engaged them and planted some seeds. Perhaps this will bother them and they'll investigate further. Ron Paul said tonite that many Obama's young supporters are coming to his camp. Their consciences will bother them the more they think about it. This is good.
Who knows, next week they might come back to talk with you more about Ron Paul!

If I were a Ron Paul campaign strategist, I would have told the doctor that telling a joke on stage was the single best thing he could do tonight. He needs to shed the "angry old man" image that many people see in him, and cracking a few jokes goes a long, long way in that respect. His delivery was amazing...it lacked the over-polished, fake quality that so often comes through when politicians crack wise, and it didn't sound forced.

I happen to agree it is very good to see a minority and a woman with a real chance at winning. But I disagree that they should be elected *because* they are mixed race or female.
