Too Timid In New Hampshire Debate
Please don't attack me for saying this, but I just watched the debate on ABC and though Dr Paul really didn't have any control over the number of times questions were directed to him, he DID have control of the few responsed he did give. He came across as timid and his answers were not clear enough. SURE, we who know his positions know what he MEANT, but for someone who is just taking a good look at him for the first time, he didn't give anyone any compelling reason to jump onto the Revolution.
People DO want a President with strong principles, but they also want someone that DISPLAYS a strong backbone. He should have pressed some of the issues more, demanding to be heard as Romney, Giuiliani and Huckabee did several times. They didn't just sit by waiting to be called on. If an issue or comment needed to be addressed they INSISTED time to address that issue.
Here we all made such a big deal about him not being included in a debate and then he just sits there like a polite school kid. The person that is to be the leader of the free world can not do this. The person that wants to be the Commander In Chief of the World's Most Powerful military cannot do this.
Another performance or two like this and any slim chance that he had to get nominated will be long gone.
That's the truth. I don't like it any more than any of you do.





















My Hero Needs to be More Emotional !
We do know that when communicating with others, they are motived by emotion and they react to avoid pain or gain pleasure. It has occurred to me (and may have occurred to you) while listening to our favorite hero (Ron Paul), that some of his ideas just might benefit from more emotional Metaphors, Analogies and/or Similes.
My goal here is to create an environment where our collective emotional intellect can make some critical recommendations for driving our hero's messages into the collective consciousness of this country.
Much of what Dr. Paul has to say requires some understanding of history, economics, mathematics, sociology, and/or common sense. Let's face it, many American voters cannot understand some of what he means or says. Certainly, they do not feel the emotion of what he says! The strongest candidates so far have been trying to connect to people's emotions. When a child is missing, every parent can easily put themselves in the position of either the missing child or her parents! There is no guesswork and the concept hits home!
Please, if you can, identify concepts such as the following, and then try to come up with a more emotional or vivid expression. I'll give one example, but I am sure our collective emotional intellect will come up with much better examples:

Please try to come up with other Ron Paul statements or concepts and try to improve them. Even if he does not choose to use them, we can use them in our own interactions with others.

You basically stated that Ron Paul is too timid, doesn't display a backbone, and acted like "a polite school kid." You want him to be more like Romney, Guliani and Huckabee.

As far as I'm concerned, Ron Paul doesn't need to do anything but keep on being Ron Paul. It got him this far, hasn't it?
and btw, don't tell us what the "truth" is. There are enough people already working on that, and the last thing we need is a professed supporter telling us the same ol' line.
FRUSTERATION turns to FUEL
it sounds like many of us were somewhat frusterated, after all why would'nt we want Dr Paul to get a raving applause after every comment. it would definetly reinforce our insecurities as to his progress in NH. anyhow, after a short pitty party (frusteration of silence by Dr Paul) on my part and analyzing the comments by the others, i realized that many of the responses by the others were exactly what Dr Paul has been saying since day 1, only with their little twist mixed in so as to not draw attention to the fact that Dr Paul initiated these ideas. this was also very true of the democrats, in fact almost to the tee. seems all the candidates are watching Dr Paul as students in a classroom, and as they learn from his lectures, they express it as their idea.
did anyone see the results for the facebook most important issue of the nite on ABC? it was the economy, and Dr Paul was the only person to beat it home. FRUSTERATION turned into FUEL from that moment on, and for that reason i give Dr Paul a "10". let the others duke it out, over petty issues. but when the Dr talks people listen. and nobody knows MONEY like Dr Paul.

Mike Huckabee surged by appearing to be an average Joe; I know folks who are scared of Ron Paul's intelligence-- they just can't keep up with him and would vote for someone they understood!

I thought this was his best performance. He actually told a JOKE! The other candidates were fighting over who was the most like BUSH. He owned this debate. Next time you are going to post a defeatist comment go call some independents.
Wasn't the best performance
The beginning was terrible with 4 of them ganging up on him (Huckabee stayed out of it). He did the best he could. Mitt Romney was an @$$. Rudy of course was Mr. 911 blah blah blah. I wish that Ron would have called them out on the price of the war. he's done it in the past. We are borrowing from the Chinese to fight these wars and in return they build up their armies. They have us by an economic stranglehold and soon will perhaps be a major military force. (sigh) We'll see what New Hampshire thinks on Tuesday.

I think part of the problem is that so many people are used to RUDENESS today. Just look at how these so called news people are LOUD and DISRESPECTFUL to people they are interviewing. It is very common today. Since political candidates want to appear strong and in your face it will corner votes some votes.
Dr. Paul supporters are about SUBSTANCE rather than STYLE. I can see what you are saying and yes he will not get some votes from shallow people. I doubt the shallow people vote. We are counting on people who can look pass the IMAGE. Like someone said rub to brain cells together and LISTEN to Dr. Paul's view of this countries problems.
Years ago, the term UGLY AMERICAN was a common term. Most people around the world just think we are LOUD and STUPID today and if you watch some videos on this we would have to agree. Our current president has been labeled the cowboy who is gunho and a moron.
Dr. Paul is just what this country needs to embrace and export INTELLIGENCE and RESPECT. Dr. Paul stands on a platform that is poler opposite of the other ego driven candidates. He was attacked for his view, he responded in a calm respectful manner. I am very proud of our leader he stayed the course. You are looking for a tiger, Dr. Paul is the elephant.

Supporter doesn't mean being a yes man
As a supporter we are giving honest feedback. How does it help to just say "Oh Ron did great! He's going to be president! No worries!"? We have to analyze the debate and make positive constructive changes. I was going to skip the Democratic debate but I actually watched it and what I said to someone else watching it with me was "Obama and Edwards are great salesman". I know they are CFR and do not have the country's interests at heart, but I want to like them. That is what the elite look for. Someone who can sell a spoon full of poison and have you thank them for it. Dr. Paul has to bring his A game, we have to as his supporters and as I said in a previous post we need a real BULLDOG on the campaign that will "kick ass and take names". Dr. Paul has said himself that the grassroots has driven the campaign but we need help too.
He's not timid
In a debate, you talk to prove a point. Interrupting a speaker is a minus. You have to place yourself at the right spot at the right time. It's not about air time. No matter how small your argument is, every part of it must be substantive and true. I thought he timed his answers beautifully.
I have forgotten this art of debating in theory. But I can still do it in real situations. I missed it a little bit. Did it in high school and college.

He is not being timid. He is being strategic and intelligent. We're stupid if we think he has not thought about his strategy before the debate. He is not going to get into the middle of a cat fight when his opponents are attacking each other. He didn't look the greatest and his body language could have been better, but he was consistent and right on in everything he said. He distanced himself from those creeps and didn't succumb to their petty banter.

Interrupting a speaker is a plus if not doing so prevents you from getting equal airtime. If another speaker goes over his allotted time he ought to be interrupted. Frontrunners are frontrunners because they're assertive and make sure that they get airtime. Being nice, quiet, and polite might win a few wimps over but for the most part it just prevents people from finding out what your ideas are.

Being assertive of what? Get air time even if they don't make sense? I will lay down a foundation to your downfall and I will stump all over you when my time comes. That's my favorite cue. If I have a debater is boxed in, I will go for the kill. Going for the small but decisive blow makes a tremendous impact in the eyes of the audience.

I disagree with Sean. In the very beginning,when they tried to drown Dr. Paul out, it was frustrating. HOWEVER, as the debate wore on, I thought he was confident and forceful.
He was the only one who got applause! I'm proud of his performance.

I'm older than Ron Paul... Youth, and most of his supporters are said to be "youthful", sometimes do not understand that sitting "there like a polite school kid" is a very subtle rhetorical device (think Socrates). He appeared to be, and likely was, listening. His somewhat nervous posture was not threatening or aggressive as with McCain, nor confused, as with Romney, nor simply excited, as with Rudy. Keep in mind that Dr. Paul did not make it to where he is without having a certain (sorry to be obtuse -- but this is quite indefinable), "presence". He knows just what he is doing. Trust him -- he isn't an old fool. He knows, as my father did, that one should often give one's opponents enough rope so that they can hang themselves -- and they will. Oh, perhaps not as quickly as impatient souls might wish, but it will happen. He knows that even if he loses the nomination, that what he has evoked cannot be lost. This sense of his own truth displays what no amount of table-thumping, smooth looks and clever argument can ever obtain -- an image of integrity cast, but not lost, among sophists.
He is even now being rather badly imitated in both attitude and policy. The young people who have faced up to the ice of Iowa and New Hampshire, should not panic. Patience. Paul is not so concerned as you are over how he appears, because he is beyond appearances, and knows that his philosophy will ultimately prevail. I think of Thomas Paine's remark about the "Summer Soldiers" -- well, there are also "Winter Soldiers" -- those who lose battles but not the war. We are now in the "winter".

If our criteria for president is based on who is the loudest or who is the pushiest we will all have to switch and vote for Rudy, but I would not confuse timidity with common courtesy, Ron Paul is first a gentleman in every sense of the term, it is his God given instinct for fairness and consideration of every individual, that most endears him to us. It is his time, it is our time, he literally can do no wrong.

Oh, BALONEY! What did you expect for him to get in the middle of the fracas between McCain and Romney. They were making fools of themselves and he very clearly explained that it's the "economy stupid," in regards toi the illegal immigration question. It's the draw from free medical and free schooling that draws them here. He also brought attention to the National ID card. What more do you want!
Ron is who he is. He's not the frappy, Ivy League, cute smiling Madison avenue slickster of a Romney. He's not the boring, mumbling, whispering McCain, but he is the principled Statesman who YOU should be proud of! He's up against the entire Establishment up there on that stage! Yes, he was not aggressive, but neither was Fred. Both, I felt. gave calm and reasoned answers to all the questions. His mention the similarities between himself and Obama -the youngsters in their camps. He also mentioned the differences. Turn your telescope around and look through the right end.

If anyone is watching the Dems debate. If I knew nothing
about Ron Paul...I'll tell I would be leaning toward John Edwards. He's being very passionate about special interests and how they are involved in everything in Washington.
Now Dr. Paul needs to talk about this, he knows what goes on in Washington. He needs to make it clear that special interests avoid his office like the plague. Because they know they will get no where with him.

But what I've learned is the Daily Paul is not the right place to voice those concerns. If you do, you will be criticized by rabid and increasingly delusional people who fail to see the obvious. Daily Paul is a collectivist cult, not a place to honest discuss a winning election strategy.
People respond to a candidate on many levels. Ideology is just one vector. Backbone is extremely important.
People will follow a wrong but determined leader over a timid, but correct one EVERYTIME. This is primal instinct.
I think this can be fixed, if the HQ hires someone to coach run on how to deliver his message. I don't think this is a crisis, but something clearly needs to be done, especially when the solution is very simple.

Give people more credit, I would not follow a wrong and determined leader and I doubt you would either. Also remember, rudeness does not equal backbone. If someone interrupts and talks over you alot, does he have more backbone than you or is he just a rude jerk that makes himself look bad?
People have criticized Ron Paul for being too negative and angry in the past, and that this turned people off, especially women, now that he takes that criticism to heart, now others are telling him to get angry and shout again? He just can't win it seems.

We do need to temper the cheering section here with some sober analysis. Dr. Paul's early debate performances earned him a dedicated following, but that style is now holding him back from going mainstream. This debate was an improvement, but if I were just tuning into the primaries I'd have to say McCain or Thompson won based on their demeanors. The next debate is January 10th - let's hope he continues to moderate the shrillness and take on the role of wise grown-up amongst squabbling children.

However you will be criticized here because it's not Dr. Pauls fault that no matter how right he is about the issues, the sheeple are just to stupid to understand. I thought Paul was too timid at times, but I thought he came across as the only adult in the room. And everything he said had a great amount of substance. Paul's an introvert and extremely polite. There is not much an introvert can do when the suits start talking over each other.
