Government regulation forces man out of camper into tent?
Submitted by shelliek on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 07:44This story is crazy!! But I am not surprised- nothing surprises me anymore...
"When the temperature drops, instead of turning up a thermostat, Hampstead resident John McGinnis depends on heat from an electric blanket to keep warm while he sleeps outside in a tent.
He's not camping out for fun.
He says a notice from county officials left him homeless and with no other choice.
McGinnis, 55, lived for about four years in a camper on land his parents passed down to him and his sisters about 10 years ago. But shortly before Thanksgiving McGinnis received notice from the county that he was in violation of a zoning rule regarding living in travel trailers and would have to move by Feb. 16.
Not wanting to leave his land on Shephards Road, McGinnis pitched the tent that he now calls home.
It turns out that's not against any county rules."
