Texas Delegate Selection Process - Updated Info
Submitted by Windcharmer on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 09:33Yesterday, I spoke with the Republican Party County Chair for Galveston County (Barbara Meeks). I was informed the current tentative date for the primary is now May 29. The State convention immediately follows on June 7-9 in Fort Worth.
At this point in time the delegate selection process is still undecided or at least still not communicated to the County level. The Chairperson stated it is still unknown whether there will be Precinct Conventions following the Primary. The Senatorial District conventions will most likely not happen this year as there is only a week between the Primary and the State Convention.
The best information I could get about the delegate selection process was the County Party Chair was collecting a list of people who were interested in being delegates. I immediately offered up my information and told her I was a delegate in the last Presidential election cycle. Chairperson Meeks remarked she indeed "remembered me." I'm not so sure that is a good thing.
This system is being set up so the Party Establishment holds all the cards. It looks like they will be assigning delegate positions for the State Convention. While the delegates will be required to follow the proportions indicated by the Primary vote on the first ballot at the National Convention, they will be released from that obligation on all subsequent ballots.
Dr. Paul has been using a delegate accumulation strategy based on activism. It seems it will be very easy to have the tables turned on Dr. Paul in Texas because of the redistricting problems. If the best we can do is call the County Chairs and volunteer, it needs to be done NOW.
Here's a link to the most up to date info as of 2/27/2012.

Oath of Affiliation with the Republican Party
I am a resident of Williamson County, and they are requiring an oath supporting the Republican candidate in the general election.
Has this become the standard procedure in all of these states where Dr. Paul is winning the large numbers of delegates?
This seems to me to be the main logical reason there will be no third party run. If many states have done this, then it is RP or stay home.
Am I wrong or missing something?
I am still wanting to be a delegate, I would simply like some input on this.

Would you know where I can look to see if delegates have (all) been assigned? I have just read that Travis and Tarrant counties, ONLY, will be meeting, but will happen prior to primary in late-May? Is this true or did all of the mess (court-filings and decision) just confuse me?
Please videotape ALL votes, for Paul, for USA, for ALL.
delegates
You must come to the meeting on March 27th Tuesday at the TCRP office on Camaeron Rd. 6:30pm. That is where the oath will be given. Austin Tx. Travis County. April 21 is the county convention at Hyde Park Baptist Church. If you want to go to the state convention you gotta be there.

The way I read their...
... announcement was that my county executive will vote on whether or not to hold precinct conventions. If they vote for one, I'll have an opportunity to be elected as a delegate, as in the past.
If my county votes not to have a precinct convention (most probably, as changes are always aimed at favoring the establishment) I will be allowed to go to my county/senatorial district convention and vote for state convention delegates. This makes it a little bit more difficult to get elected, but we are not deterred by a rule change. Whatever the rules, we will turn up in force. If history is any guide, the establishment has no real grassroots, so we should overwhelm them with our numbers.

Only A Week
With only a week between the Primary and the State Convention, there's not much time for the Senatorial District/County Conventions. I hope we get an opportunity to vote for delegates for the State Convention. I'm very leery of this whole process.
Let's keep a close tab on this...
... I'm a naturalized citizen (late in 2007, when I discovered Ron Paul), so I am not up to speed with the intricacies of delegate selection, but I will do whatever it takes to become a delegate and go to Tampa. I know it won't be easy, but I am no deterred by obstacles, especially if set up the GOP Politburo.
