LNN - Liberty News Network *please read, someone needs to do this!*

Okay, so there's a lot of discussion about media bias here. But it's a bit pointless if we leave at just that. So let's discuss what we can do about it. Crying foul and sending angry emails to CNN isn't going to help. The fact of the matter is these major news network are privately owned. They decide what to cover, and how.

We need to provide a POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE!!!

Instead of CNN, let's make our own network: LNN, liberty news network. A youtube channel that brings daily reports from the campaign trail and various other items like: insightful interviews, commentary and debate, related news, background information, stories from the grassroots, etc.

You can do this to a relatively professional standard at little cost!

The media blackout of Ron Paul has a side-effect that's less obvious but just as damaging: it blacks out the wider movement, making it very easy for the establishment to keep up the narrative of 'crazy fringe candidate with fringe ideas and weirdo, fringe supporters'.

Apart from Ron Paul running for president there's a much wider story of the freedom movement that's simply not out there and people don't see. That makes it easy to just view it as bunch of crazy rednecks and doped up college students and discard the whole movement. Like we all know, there's a lot more to it. We also know you need to get past a certain treshhold before you 'get' Ron Paul and his ideas.

That's his strength, but also his major weakness. Take for instance the discussion around the effectiveness Super Brochure. I agree with both sides. It's a very effective overview, but not always an effective campaign tool because sometimes you need to focus the message. The brochure is not the problem. The real problem is the amount of information you need to communicate to an average voter. It's an untold story.

That's a lot to ask of one brochure, and it still doesn't show the passionate and varied support Ron Paul gets. And that's what we need to do.

Liberty News, or whatever the name will be, doesn't just follow the campaign, but puts out the wider story. Interview voters, the volunteers, campaign workers, people that help explain Ron Paul's ideas, people that endorse, add in some relevant news items, local reports, some lighter stuff and encourage people to send in their own items, articles and photos/videos. Make a daily show out of it that's fun to watch, informative and well produced: guaranteed success.

Apart from just putting it online, we can provide ready for broadcast report to local media who often don't have the resources to do extensive reports.

Let's create our own media bias. All you really need is a half-decent camera, a mic and a laptop to edit it all together to a pretty professional standard. There are already so many people out there doing it to some degree, we have the people, we have the talent and we have the ideas. If we all combine forces before you know it we're the new mainstream media.

The current mainstream doesn't put the real story out there, and it'll only get worse as the race progresses. If the movement organizes now it can provide a credible alternative.

So let's discuss...

We need to start thinking up ideas to make (good looking) programming with little to no resources. It can be done if we can get people to shoot interesting footage and send it in.

This too

Found this from article on Business Insider about Occupy, Anonymous, and Ron Paul.

- A complacent corporate broadcast media that fails to alert citizens to issues of national importance, choosing instead to grab the low-hanging fruit, including celebrity overdoses, feuds, etc. And even worse, they are a corporate media that now picks sides (supported censorship bill SOPA, for example, and routinely mock Ron Paul), in clear violation of what journalism at the national network level is supposed to be about. (Could you imagine a Walter Cronkite or Edward R. Murrow declining to cover chilling censorship legislation merely because it might upset a network's corporate parent?)

If you wish to register you support/interest

in the project that I am already developing, you can do so here: http://www.world4ronpaul.com/index.php/archives/1162

By doing this hopefully we can begin a coordinated effort, keep things centralised and avoid duplication and fragmentation.

I urge everybody to get

I urge everybody to get involved with this!! Britons4Paul has done an amazing job in pulling this all together so quickly but we need boots on the ground to really pull this off!

Where do I send the check?

I like how you define the purpose of Liberty News, I think you could raise a lot of money for something like this. Maybe calling it liberty news limits it too much. I think of Ron Paul support as anti-fraud, no bailouts for risk takers -- you take a risk, you fail, then you lose, fiscal responsibility, power of the people and less government.

And I'm really liking the word REVOLUTION.

News Revolution?

Great Idea

I support it, just don't have the time or money to help with it at the moment.

Maybe add it as a channel on

Maybe add it as a channel on Roku, Hulu, etc. Like " Democracy Now!" channel.

I just created LNN channel on

I just created LNN channel on livecage.com

I am using 7 different existing Ron Paul related clips. It will play constantly throughout the day. I can interrupt the video any time and go live on the same channel.. It is almost as good as a TV..
http://livecage.com/?res=root._view_content&content_id=14674

In order to pull something like this off, we need 10-15 people from different part of the country, who can create a 30 min report every day. We can start with 6 hours a day of new material, and them repeat through out the day..
We will have scheduled live reports once or twice a day..
I think this could work out for $0 initial investment..

Contact Your Local Cable Company

If you can get backing....(advertisers)..in place..some local cable companys will let you go on the air and do a local show.
Like where I am..the local college has a media course..(plus they have an office/news room, for a news station in Asheville NC) so they have cameras and everything you need for production.....something like that might help you get on the air....(just offer the college a kick back from the advertiser money..the cable company gets a chunk..and the rest..you and your staff get)

I believe in Hope & Change..I Hope the government will Change
Spindale-Rutherford County-North Carolina

We could stream it online,

We could stream it online, but get a large audience by advertising it nationally on TV for a (relatively) low cost using Google TV Ads (http://www.google.com/ads/tv/)

if advertised...

if advertised... we can't go half assed on it. Money has to be thrown at it and everything has to be done professionally.

this could be done on Livecage

The owner is donating $5,000, $25,000 to the campaign..

http://livecage.com/?ron_paul

It works just like youtube, but it also allows you to stream live as well. All for free.. I have used it for a while, and I will be streaming tonight's debate live on livecage.com

I saw something similar on here yesterday

It was called NewsIt or something. It had the best article and photos of the march. You can write your own story and up load pictures and then they put it on their site.

Here's what I will do.

I will start making videos about the yahoo front page news articles (for the day/week?)with an objective of highlighting ways that these articles attempt to:

A. Manufacture Consent
B. Marginalize Dissent
C. Use fallacies of Logic to make a "point"

I'll make a cool check-off slogan like, "And that's how your mind was being shaped today"... or something like that.

NO MORE LIES. Ron Paul 2012.

Great idea!

Might be cool to delve into some of the history of that as well, Freud, Edward Barnays and such.

If possible

use high (broadcast) quality footage and render at the highest quality as well.

If you are forced to use degraded or highly processed footage apply a black and white or scan line filter or similar to avoid an amateur look and quality.

We need to step up our game in production if the content is going to be suitable for purpose.

Thank you

Good to know.

NO MORE LIES. Ron Paul 2012.

There was some discussion

There was some discussion about this recently on Tom Woods' blog, as he is thinking about starting a radio show. A lot of the comments over there seemed to suggest people are really itching for some kind of liberty friendly media alternative...and that this should be a long term goal. I agree.

We have been getting by online, as most mainstream news articles and blogs offer comment sections, where we can offer differing perspectives or fact check mistakes when necessary. But lately I have noticed a real uptick in commenting deletion and censorship on news articles written by various mainstream outlets. It seems to happen to me on a regular basis now (and I always make an effort to use civil, polite language, and do not spam, flame, etc), to the point I have just stopped bothering.

What form such a network would take, I'm not sure. I like youtube, but it has limitations. There's already a lot of material on youtube, and of course, we don't own social media sites like youtube or facebook either.

Peter thiel is the answer

Why not tap our billionaire peter thiel for this. I am sure he would be willing to provide money for this startup that is bound to succeed! He is already pouring millions into the liberty campaign.

I still

think that cable companies have to allow public access. Still is a cable channel but the information, debate, etc, is free.

Might be a nuisance to do each cable company but it might help with a broader audience than we have.

I think this is free too.

mickey45

You're right

There is a federal requirement to include a certain percentage of Public access or public service announcements. There are loopholes that some bigger cable outlets have used in order to do away with having to offer public access. But there are still quite a few that offer this access.

One of the difficulties with Public Access is the markets worth being part of often have a waiting list months or years into the future.

But it certainly something worth looking into. In the first phase one could simply broadcast content already produced and available, thereby limiting the initial cost exposure.

Groundwork already started

However lets not spin wheels or duplicate our efforts. Have a look at my signature for a small preview of what's already live.

Bear in mind there is a lot of work happening behind the scenes to build on what's already available.

If what I am doing is not the solution, I am happy to devote my resources to something more appropriate, but I think its imperative we all work together in this.

I have a channels reserved (not just President Ron Paul but liberty oriented) and ready to go live, just waiting on people with in the movement to show their commitment to the project.

At any rate whether people want to join what we are already doing, or if someone wants to start something new, let me know and I am on board...lets just do it and work together!

I didn't mean to duplicate

I didn't mean to duplicate efforts but to pull them together. It should be in one place. LNN is just a catchy title.

I don't know what's going on in the background other than world4ronpaul, but if we want it to succeed we need to get as much people involved in possible. Boots on the ground with cameras strapped to 'em ;) From my position there's isn't a whole lot I can do other than spread the message and contribute where I can in terms of graphics, ideas etc.

Freedom Broadcasting Network - independent grassroots network

BTW

Can you create a new graphic for World4Paul? Something that will replace what is currently being used? Something that can easily cross over to banners of various sizes? Something that will translate well to both print and web/TV?

I have other requirements but I will send those to you privately as its not yet appropriate to release to the public. :)

Agreed

we want to recruit recruit recruit.

I really hesitate to put too much of the Intellectual Property of what's happening behind the scenes out in the public domain just yet because the legal structure that will protect the intellectual property is not fully in place. It would be so unfortunate to lose this advantage. I will say however that I nor anyone else involved in the projects we are working on stands to personally benefit or profit, and the structure is such that its as close to the "open source" "public license" as possible and still allowing a specific and unique corporate body.

Domain names are one thing, but there has already been a lot of thought put into this in terms of a corporate body, and some very powerful liberty oriented names have been reserved and copyrighted.

Having said that, I do not wish to discourage anyone from acquiring a domain name they feel could be of value, or from starting an outlet. Because as Jaktober suggested, you really cant do too much to spread the message.

I am also working (as fast as I can) to launch a platform where all of these ideas and resourced an be coordinated online. Please bear with me and when the time is right I will make these things publicly available.

Meanwhile let me know what I can do to help or do my part.

Duplication is what we want!

We can't have too many media outlets, the more we have, the better chance one will catch on.

If we want to make sure we aren't all working alone, it is easy to cross-promote and share content. However, each website will have its own "flavor" and that is important.

I understand what your are saying

but my point is this: It's very difficult to offer a real solution that can realistically compete with the MSM. I am 100% for any grass roots efforts to promote the message.

I think many are doing just that via YouTube and social media.

From my perspective a goal should be to make any alternative realistically viable as legitimate media, not just online but eventually by satellite and cable. At least that's a goal the projects I am involved in are working toward.

If things go according to plan, the end result will be a platform that caters to the many flavours you describe. Not just one message or one format, but a genuine platform based on viewer demand and with viewer submitted content as well as independent and professionally produced programmes.

Al Gore had a similar concept, but as it was so left leaning, it didn't take off, as a result they have totally revamped their format. With careful thought and planning we can accomplish our goal and succeed where the former VP failed.

Its not all about the money, its about the viewer support. All the money in the world wont buy you a dedicated viewer base.

I agree, duplication right

I agree, duplication right now means fragmentation and that's the problem we need to solve.

The MSM has their version of the story and it blacks out ours because ours is so fragmented. They have one John King, we have a million videos scattered across youtube and a thousand great articles on obscure blogs.
