Attn: MICHIGAN: We have TWO GOP primaries?
Submitted by Loyal Yank on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 13:35I just spoke to my city clerk in Michigan (from my residence here in the UK). She said there are 12 names on the GOP primary ballot next week (which there are); but there is yet another 'primary' in August, where there will be only 2 GOP names on the ballot (the top two names from the first ballot).
She said I am on the list to receive an absentee ballot for this primary in August. As you are probably aware, next week's primary was indeed moved forward on the calendar. There are County Conventions August 16, according to the Michigan GOP website, so that is probably what she is referring to.
I didn't think to ask if there were write-ins (there normally are), but it sounds suspiciously like they just want to minimise Ron Paul's delegates.
Michigan has been messing about with its primary for 5 years now. I'm finding this all a bit confusing -- perhaps my fellow patriots stateside are in a better position to consider the Michigan state delegate process.
Comments?

But the Michigan GOP website says August 16

Wow, that site is really cool. Seems to have the most accurate delegate information in terms of "projections" even though we know we have an advantage in terms of actual delegates.
Regarding the move in Michigan, am I reading it right that they are purposely changing things so that only the top two candidates will be available for voting in August? As in they think Ron Paul is going to be third and want to make sure he can't get any delegates?
If that's the case then I'm a HUGE Santorum fan. At least until the 2nd round of the convention I am. ;-)
