Contact Your Senator! - Cybersecurity Act of 2012

Hey y'all,

I just received an e-mail from Campaign for Liberty asking me to contact my Senator and urge them to vote against the "Cybersecurity Act of 2012", which is obviously a terrible affront to our privacy and freedom. Just thought I'd share what I wrote to my Senator to inspire others to do the same.

Mr. Alexander,

I am a relatively new resident of Tennessee, but I am eagerly reaching out to you because of a piece of legislation that makes me fear for America's future. The "Cybersecurity Act of 2012" represents another step in the wrong direction with regard to preventing terrorism and preserving freedom in America. Similar to the mis-named "Patriot Act", this is another piece of legislation that forces American citizens to TRADE THEIR LIBERTY FOR A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. In my opinion, this is the exact sort of trade-off that Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and our other brilliant founding fathers warned about. Some argue that we live in a different time, where cyber threats and physical threats can travel much faster from one continent to another, but I argue that TYRANNY IS TYRANNY, and the worst kind of tyranny is that which originates from within our own government.
I’m urging you to reject the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 and instead push for more sensible ways of preventing terrorism, like embracing a foreign policy that respects the sovereignty of other countries rather than occupying them in the name of preserving our economic interests. I am a proud new resident of Tennessee, and I pray you will vote the right way on this bill.

I started to read the Cybersecurity Act of 2012, but couldn't get my head around it. Can anyone break down what it means?
