A brief look at the voter dichotomy in Virginia:
Submitted by surfersrevolution on Wed, 02/22/2012 - 14:31The other day I took a little trip to the downtown area of my city. It's a pretty upscale area, with a walking mall that's filled with antique shops, coffee bars, tiny designer studios, and homes that date back to the 1700's. I was there to visit the natural health store that sits along the edge of the river, and I parked my car in one of the free community lots. As I was walking back to my car after my trip to the store, I couldn't help but notice the large, sleek black Mercedes parked in the space next to me. My raggedy little Honda paled in comparison, and I felt somewhat embarrassed about all the dirt and winter road grime that's caked on it. Then I happened to notice the license plate on the Mercedes: "Rmny2012"
I looked back at my poor bedraggled Honda, with 100,000+ miles on it and a big ol' Ron Paul sticker proudly displayed on the back. And it dawned on me- here in these two vehicles are represented the two types of people who will enter the voting booths in Virginia's primary this year. Those who are comfortable with the status quot, happily nested in their money and driving around in their Mercedes, and they will vote for Romney (or Santorum, or Newt). Then there are those of us who are uncomfortable with the status quot, who barely make enough money to feed ourselves well or provide roofs over our heads, or even keep our beat-up old cars on the road. We don't want to be debt slaves to colleges, or to be sent off to wars we didn't approve, or to have nearly a third of our measly paychecks wrenched from us to support an ailing, bloated government. We don't want that self-same bloated government to reach into our bedrooms or our classrooms, or our gun cabinets, or our own bodies. We have had enough of the status quot.
And we... will vote for Ron Paul.
