Sen. Rand Paul Explains His Vote In Favor Of Sanctions On Iran

Today I attended a town hall in Alexandria, KY and was able to finally ask Rand Paul a question many have wondered about, namely why he voted in favor of sanctions on Iran.

As far as I know this question hadn't been posed to him yet...

Yes, it's quite obvious that there is a clear line...

of demarcation here. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on some, less than dovish language of the past given his constituency is still loaded with Neo-Cons. But this was indefensible in my eyes.

It is as if he is trying to preserve his seat in the Neo-Con Party an era of MASSIVE sea change within both the Republican party, and the populace as a whole.

I had assumed that he would have been heir-apparent to Ron's following...the Liberty Movement...and now...I can no longer see the segue. In fact, with the sanctions, and the debt ceiling votes, I am now shocked and disgusted by Rand. I mean really...I am truly SHOCKED at what he's done. I never would have expected it and it sickens me to tears for how will we ever move forward without principled, resolute, consistent people in leadership who understand the concept of No Quarter. Jeez, If Ron Paul's son fails us...

It matters not whether or not these things would have passed anyway. It is principle I am looking for and the boy ain't his father.

I've had enough of whores with ties. Men of courage are gone...or are very old. maybe I'm wrong and would think differently if I could sit and speak with him one on one...and he could explain it in a way that I might be agreeable towards...but I can't. I have to go with discernment and the "knowns" especially as he states them, and the circumstances lately point to Rand selling his ass on the street.

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

Sanctions ARE an act of war. TELL THE TRUTH RAND.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH NUKES.

IT IS BECAUSE IN 2008, IRAN BAGAN TRADING ITS OIL IN A CURRENCY OTHER THAN THE U.S. DOLLAR.

THIS IS ANOTHER BANKER'S WAR.

JUST LIKE IRAQ.

JUST LIKE SYRIA.

IN THE YEAR 2000, SADDAM, (TIRED OF BEING SANCTIONED AND BOMBED FOR 10 YEARS), DECLARED THAT HE WOULD NO LONGER TAKE U.S. DOLLARS FOR OIL BUT INSTEAD EUROS OR GOLD.

AS SOON AS BAGHDAD FELL, IRAQI OIL TRADED IMMEDIATELY IN U.S. DOLLARS AGAIN.

SO TELL THE TRUTH RAND LIKE YOUR DAD DID IN HIS BOOK "A FOREIGN POLICY OF FREEDOM" WHEREIN HE EXPOSED THE IRAQ WAR LIE.

THIS AND EVERY WAR IS ULTIMATELY ABOUT THE BANKERS WHO STAND TO LOSE PROFITS IF A COUNTRY TRADES ITS GOODS IN A CURRENCY NOT APPROVED BY THE FEDERAL RESERVE.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Thank you, these were exactly

Thank you, these were exactly my thoughts too.

I am more disappointed in Rand than some of these neocons

Rand knows better. He has said the right things in the past. This just shows me that unlike his dad, Rand loves to be a politician that makes deals and compromises. When I hear Rand, I never get the impression that he is as firm as his dad in his ideas. I don't want to bash Rand but come on people.

Rand is either a whore

or the salable parts of one.

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

I am sick and tired of biting my tongue just because Rand

is Ron's son. This is the guy who defended Romney when he said corporations are people. Is he good on some things? Yes. But he is not his dad. In fact, I think he is weak on many issues. How else can he be honored to be Romney's VP? It's like being honored to be Satan's right hand man. I am sorry. I have all the respect in the world for Ron. But I don't worship him as God nor worship his son as son of God. Rand is not even Ron Lite. Oh well.

I thought he was going to

I thought he was going to sidestep it completely and for the first three minutes that's what it appeared he was doing, however at the end I think he gave a satisfactory answer. He recognizes that in cases in the past sanctions have made things worse. I mean who was the last sitting Senator who said sanctions before WWII may have contributed to Japan's and Germany's anger?

I have to return some videotapes...

NNPT

What I would like to see highlighted more often is that Iran is a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (unlike Israel btw), that this is why the IAEA inpectors are all over their country and that these inspectors have until now reported exactly ZERO infractions to said treaty.

Rand's spiel on this issue was disappointing, to put it very mildly.

I'm ok with it

As long as he keeps up the anti-war talk. The vote against sanctions might have been politicide. He needs more time to get some serious support and momentum,he is only in his first term. Rand Paul 2020 after Ron's 2nd term.

There is no way in hell

There is no way in hell that Rand Paul honestly believes inside his mind that the things he publicly states and supports in stark contrast to his father are his true feelings. The genius and logic of Ron Paul can get through to LEGIONS of strangers, but not to his own son? The same son who actually has a very strong chance of becoming the President at some point? Come on now, people. After watching the machine steal elections and constantly undermine the efforts of liberty, this should really be a no-brainer for everyone here. Rand has been an eyewitness to this for most of his entire life. I too cringe when I hear him say things like this, but if you've learned the things that I've learned from Dr. Paul, you'd have a strong hunch that this is a very stealthy maneuver on the part of these great men.

You sound like...

...all who claim that Ron Paul won't ramrod 9/11 Truth because of politics...but he's really a closet Truther.

Is there no time in your mind that a man can speak his mind and live with the consequences of being honest?

Apparently you believe that it's OK to lie if the ends justify the means? Do you know what the fuck you are saying? Have you any understanding of how in the hell we got here?

What the hell is this...The United States of Machiavelli?

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

You sound like...

A dumbass noob.

And the more you learn about life, the more it becomes apparent that EVERYONE lies or compromises to survive - even Ron Paul. If your life depends on it, are you going to lie to save yourself? YES. I'm pretty sure that the Paul family believes that all of our lives are in jeopardy. I certainly feel that way.

I hope you're not Fedor... I really like(d) him.

You can suck a noob

I'm not Fedor, nor RINO, nor SteveParent, nor Sierra, nor any others in the long list that got hit in 2008...and from what I've seen of you over the years...I don't either like or trust you.

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

I see what you are saying,

I see what you are saying, but he sounded a lot like Rick Santorum, to me. The apple does not fall far from the tree, but it is away from it. I do not agree with Rand on FAR more things he says and does than I do not agree with Ron. There are many issues that I disagree with Rand on, and only a few of Ron's. I KNOW, for unknown reasons, exactly, that he feels he needs to play The Political Game. Hope his own reasons are just.

Crickett

you have been here a long time, you know Rand is working the system, please tell me you know this, c'mon. Rand is not going to piss on his father after his father has worked alone for 30 years. Slap yourself Crickett.

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must. like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.-Thomas Paine

The R3volution requires action, not observation!!!!

Dude....

Ron Paul's sport coat smells like a freakin' downtown telephone booth right now...and while my account shows I've been here 50 weeks...you could add it to my banned personae and see a longer presence here than Crickett.

Sometimes a duck is fuckin duck.

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

Seems Rand's a team player...

going along to get along.

Yeah!

Rand's dad called sanctions an "act of war."

Minnesota Mary

sometimes

the apple does fall far from the tree... I think the real story is that he was playing DC ball, getting support for his vote. I'm sure that he knows that the sanctions were wrong.

The bold effort the present bank had made to control the government ... are but premonitions of the fate that await the American people should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution or the establishment of another like it-Andrew Jackson

What Rand seems to fail to

What Rand seems to fail to realize is that while bombing does usually lead to a Nationalization of the people with their leaders, so does sanctions. The problem we face now that sanctions have been imposed is that even if we were to lift those sanctions today, Ahmadienajad has more support now then he would have had we not imposed sanctions on Iran in the first place.

Considering the fact that most normal people would rather he(Ahmadienajad) was no longer their(the Iranians) leader, the whole situation seems counter-productive; unless, that is that, one desires to go to war with Iran, because that is the only action left to be taken. Which is why sanctions are a precursor to war, because you cannot go back once you impose sanctions; it may not be immediately, but sooner-or-late there will be a war with Iran and that fate has been sealed by imposing sanctions.

Now, while Rand's vote didn't, in reality, make the sanctions happen -because the vote was 100-0; It is my opinion that he(Rand) should have realized the above statements as factual reality and should have voted against the sanctions, if for nothing else then a simple protest against the overt act of aggression; an act of aggression which doesn't harm the leader of a country, it harms the average citizens while simultaneously helping to garner support for a leader we are supposedly against.

Ugh.

[having nuclear weapons] "could destablize the Middle East"

Pakistan already has one....so does Israel.

"Doing something is better than doing nothing".

According to who? iRand....even your father has said that "sanctions" are acts of war.

[asking the soldiers] "...are you ready to go for a 3rd war now?"

They're supposed to follow orders even if they're unConstitutional or illegal...remember? Don't forget Libya and that other place!

[the Iranian election] "wasn't a fair election".

Oh? And ours are? At least they use paper ballots and ink stains as markers on their fingers!

[relative to the supposed location of any nuclear weapons] "is too far underground".

And who knows that to be sure? Have any of you seen proof?

This guy's a Senator right? Man, I wish his father would give him a good talkin' to. Hasn't he read any of his father's books?

I don't think Iran getting

I don't think Iran getting nukes would really help stabilize the Middle East (in addition to Israel, they have a lot of tension with Sunnis and Arabs in the region), but it's understandable why they would want them, and I don't support a war to prevent them from acquiring them. And he was talking about Iran's nuclear facilities (which they acknowledge exist, though they insist only for peaceful purposes), not weapons, when he was talking about them being underground

Rand has done alot of good

Rand has done alot of good things but he is dead wrong on this one. That was a typical neocon statist defense of foreign interventionism. Rand should read his father's Foreign Policy of Freedom.

Good things?

Like what?

Standing up against the

Standing up against the Patriot Act, for one.

I think his vote was terrible

I think his vote was terrible but few warmongering neocons will like his milquetoast "on the one hand" and "on the other hand" arguments on this issue. IMHO, if Rand continues to try to have it both ways, as in this answer, Hannity and his other "fans" will turn on him.

imho

...he is Ron Paul lite.

..and that is not enough.
