A Ron Paul experience in the heart of Romney countrySubmitted by feliznavdavid on Fri, 02/24/2012 - 19:50
I was just visiting with a couple in my neighborhood along with my dad when my dad let it slip that I'm really interested in politics, and maybe to the point of obsession. The wife said, "Oh really? I just have one question. What do you think about Ron Paul?" I hesitated for a second because I wasn't sure how to respond. Okay, a little background here. Both our families are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or Mormons, as we are better known. We were visiting because the husband just had surgery yesterday, and because we are their "home teachers". (Mormons will understand this, but to put it simply it's just something in our church where everyone is assigned to look after a few families in the congregation, and help them when necessary. Being there for church purposes, I wasn't intent on making it anything too political, but since she asked the question, I thought it would be okay. "Oh, he might be my favorite person in the world," I answered. Living in Utah, where the majority of people share the same faith as Mitt Romney, and most support him, I didn't know what kind of response to expect.
To my surprise, this older woman (late fifties, early sixties) clapped her hands and smiled, saying "Yes!", and then proceeded to tell me all the things she loved about Dr. Paul. I post this to say, that even in Utah, the heart of Mitt Romney country, where the media says we are all Romney fans, Dr. Paul is growing. I get the sense that we are winning this thing people. Day by day, person by person. Let's keep going! We got this!
