Besides wasting time on the computer - what did you do today? UPDATE
Submitted by bedr1 on Sun, 01/06/2008 - 12:23Besides wasting time on the computer - what did you do today & what will you do tomorrow?
I would like to know what kind of campaigning people did today (and typing away at your computer DOES NOT COUNT).
We put up a 1000 door hangers, and today we will put up another 1000 door hangers.
The only way to win the Republican nomination is to outwork your opponents, not play video campaign on your computer all day and complain about insignificant differences in percentages between 3rd and 5th.
Get a grip
****UPDATE****
Yes the internet is the great salvation and the best thing since apple pie and sure you sent your email to all your friends - poor baby must have made your fingers all bloody working so hard.
Let me put it to you in another way - Veejay - a Google employee who everyone knows, quit his job and moved to New Hampshire to physically campaign on the ground. Hmmm - wonder why he just didn't make a cyberspace move and virtually live in New Hampshire. Answer: Because he realizes that you cannot win on the internet alone.
Not saying everyone has to be that dedicated or quit their job or move to New Hampshire or stop using the internet, but I am saying you have to do something other than the internet. Heard a caller on Cspan the night of the Iowa Caucus - she calls in and says she is from Iowa and hopes Ron Paul wins. The interviewer asks why she isn't voting - she has no answer. I guess she figured someone else would vote if she would just email them or be on her myspace page. Pathetic

OK, friend, take it easy...
It's a GREAT question - but you don't need to be so accusatory. We're all on the same team: encourage us, don't beat us up!
OK, today I talked with several people at my church and really evangelized them for Ron Paul. I think out of 5 or 6, I've seen 3 come on board and and the others really thinking. Not as much as you, but hey, I've got two little kids and it's 10 below! :-)
Keep up the good work!

Brilliant article that explains why we love Dr. Paul:

Well...
In and around the rain here (sunny California, my a$$!) and remodelling my den, I was running back and forth to the grocery store and Home Depot, and did so in Paul attire, talking him up in the checkout lines, hanging slimjims on the product hooks in the lines and aisles when nobody was looking, and in one case trying to figure out how to get his name onto the supermarket cart ads. I'm also trying to figure out getting napkins printed up and planting them in the local food joints.
"Welcome to 2008: The Year of Ron Paul!"

LOL! Nice.

I understand your point but
it's 1:30 am, what exactly should I be doing? (smile)
This is what I did today on my company's web-site for my mag, check it out-- I'm very proud!

Mathew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
I'm taking a bit of offense here.
You seem to imply that simply because there are people on dailypaul today actively interested in the progress in New Hampshire that we're a bunch of lazy bums? You have no idea of which you speak. First of all, my husband is precinct chair, I'm going to be a election judge and we're both going to be delegates as well as find other delegates in our precinct. We go out canvassing every weekend, usually on both Sat and Sun with our kids. We also participate in meetup and go to most of the RP events in our area. We do calling, letter writing.... you name it. We even started organizing fellow supporters in our county to start canvassing. A lot more work than it sounds, believe me.
So why am I on the computer? Because I have strep throat with a 103 fever, not fun! And where's my husband? He saved up all of his christmas vacation days so that he could fly out to New Hampshire to help the Live Free or Die project.
Are we doing enough for you? Why are YOU on the computer?
Who's gonna win? RON PAUL!!
Who's gonna win? RON PAUL!!
one of my customers came
one of my customers came over tonight and we talked about politics for about and hour and a half. really to talk to someone about Ron Paul it takes a while because to go into the issues it takes time, to convert them solid anyway. I can see why Ron Paul has to talk so fast when in interviews. Anyway we have a new Ron Paul supporter and he said he will spread the word. Of coarse I will be arming him with some RP videos. One by one we educate people and become the majority. Also my brother and sister in law voted for Ron Paul in thier caucas in Iowa I found out tonight, I guess the 9 million RP videos I sent them paid off.........
You have hangers?
Where? I must of passed up 50 houses, due to no hangers!
ugh!
Your Point is Well Made
I just wrote 20 letters to Michigan voters and encouraged others on this forum to join in a 24 hour letter bomb. From the letter writing website it was obvious there were a few who took the challenge. Hopefully, many more will respond...
Things I did list:
1) Worked
2) Discussed Ron Paul and his health care plan with 3 fellow physicians (2 of whom either hadn't heard of him or didn't know he was a doctor)
3) Bartered for votes with a professional colleague who likes Ron Paul but doesn't want his vote to be "wasted" (I told him I will take a night of on-call service for him if he votes for Dr. Paul and an additional night for every family member he gets to vote for Ron too)
4) Donated to the campaign during the Hallibur.....um,....Cable debate
5) Went to mass and prayed for Dr. Paul and our country
Sorry I couldn't do more.
JJ
Wow - thats really awesome - like the barter idea
Wow - thats really awesome - like the barter idea
Wasn't there some kind of barter system back in 2004 that the Green Party was using.
I Used the Internet
I understand your point here, we need to spread our message off the internet, and I agree.
I created http://tell10friends.com to help do that. Yes, you're still using the internet to spread the word, but your doing it with people that would not normally be looking at Digg, YouTube, Facebook, or other resources where Ron Paul support is large enough to convince.
I think we have to start working together more as well. When someone has a good idea, PUSH IT FORWARD, then move on to the next idea. Not everyone can have the best idea at all times, just work together.
Canvassed
In Alameda, CA. The Bay Area is a Democratic area, but Ron Paul has some good support and people are generally open to hearing his message. It is hard, but fun and very interesting.

I went out and made a nuisance of myself
I was greeted with the enthusiasm of one who opens their door and sees a couple of Jehovah’s Witness with The Watchtower under their arms. Then I went home and got on the phone like a telemarketer making phone calls at dinnertime.
How many votes did I get for Ron Paul, do ya think?
Really?
Jehovah's Witness! funnny! Telemarketer! witty!
show me your meetup event? how about a specific instance?
are you really discouraging people from meeting and bringing out their neighbors to vote for Paul?
Please keep this stuff to yourself. For those of us willing to do the hard work to win.

Agorism is the process whereby we create the orgs that provide what an absence of gov would necessitate, gradually crowding out the violent state from the market, killing it through neglect.
Badges? We don't need no stinking badges
I don't have to show you any stinking badges!
OK, Mr. Boots on the Ground. We appreciate your efforts, but lay off the sanctimony. It is very irritating - particularly when you loudmouths may be nothing but poseurs - It's easy on the net, you know.
Probably way more than you think

Today
I passed out about 600-700 slim jims ,a few dvds and bumper stickers then I donated $100 and volunteered to do a gun show next week .
Stood up by campaign HQ
Bad situation in Michigan --
We are making our own signs, printing our own literature. We have given up on the official campaign doing anything for us.
They have been giving everyone the runaround, including their paid staffers at the state level. They are stonewalling us. There just isn't anybody you can get any answers from. They have a monolithic firewall worthy of the soviet union. Anyone you can get through to is either clueless, or gives non-answers that are clearly nonsense, such as "they were shipped Federal Express but there's no tracking number", etc. (as the materials don't show up). We held a meeting of precinct captains with a big turnout, and the materials didn't show up. Guess what? Still no materials.
Over a month since we got any Slim Jims, we have been bone dry for three weeks. Signs finally arrived, weeks late, and much fewer than requested. But no stands.
We aren't giving up. We are buying stands, making our own stuff, including literature. About one week away from the election, and we have been getting promised stuff since weeks before Christmas. We've lost the entire holiday season and another warm weekend, fielding calls from volunteers who want to go door to door but don't have any materials.
We'll do what we can with the time left, but if we had known this would happen we could have pulled the whole thing off by ourselves. This is a revolution of can-do business people accustomed to doing the impossible against huge odds on ridiculously short schedules. We could have had materials professionally printed, extra signs made, and major areas covered by now. Instead, we were left motionless because of promises that we would have official campaign literature. Always "we hope it will be here soon".
Nothing saps enthusiasm of volunteers more than being let down like this. It is now too late to get the coverage we wanted to get with door to door drives when people had time off for the holiday.
I have experience with smoke jobs like this, it's always when companies are in serious cash flow trouble and aren't willing to admit it -- so they start lying to everyone -- their customers, their creditors, their employees.
We have hundreds of volunteers in this county alone, chomping at the bit. Tomorrow the official word goes out from the local volunteer organizers -- "the campaign has abandoned us, print out whatever you can and go door to door with that." And, "we don't have enough signs to give to everyone that requested one, so only put them on corners, and we'll make a few hundred more of our own to put out".
Hey, thanks for the words of encouragement. Note to anyone else waiting for materials -- If it's been awhile, forget about it now while you still have time to cover your neighborhoods. Don't do what we did and wait until one week before the election before giving up and making your own. You can't trust what the paid campaign staffers tell you. Even though they have the best intentions, they are getting fed lies from the top and being kept in the dark like everyone else.

Now let's get out there and promote freedom!
I manned our Ron Paul booth
I manned our Ron Paul booth at a gun show and signed up to become a precinct leader. I am also a PCO.
Yesterday I hung 100
Yesterday I hung 100 vertical pole signs and today I hung 100 vertical pole signs.
Man, I'll tell you what, I didn't know what I was thinking in I'd blow through three hundred signs in a day. I guess I compared them to placing slim jims, which go quick.

I'm in Michigan
and I met up with my meetup group and a bunch of us went out to do some sign waving ... I also wrote letters and distributed slim jims! :-)
Just became a precinct captain today.
Still waiting for my literature - will print out stuff from the net tomorrow so I can start canvassing.
Went with a friend...
... and hung slim jims on door handles... hard work but exhilarating... if you had told me a year ago I would be doing this, I would have told you that you were nuts... I only became a citizen in September last year... had no interest in politics... two wings of the same bird... why bother... and then Ron Paul rode into town... this movement must NEVER die down... I love these scenes of people carrying signs and banners... don't tax me bro!... we must NEVER stop doing this...

Our primary isn't until May but....
Friday I had a medical appointment and talked to the nurses and clerks (and a few people in the waiting rooms) about Ron Paul. Most were very enthusiastic and had a lot of questions.
Saturday I was unable to get out aside from the grocery store, but I talked to a couple people in line about Ron Paul.
Today, I had Mass and talked to people there at church.
I have been spreading the word sooo much, that I heard one lady say "here comes the Ron Paul lady" when she saw me approaching.
I need to order some campaign materials from the campaign office, so I will be doing that in the next day or so. I am broke after donating to so many of these excellent efforts. My elderly mother is going to give me the money to get the materials because she isn't able to get out at all, but wants to do whatever she CAN do. She said she will pay for the stuff and I will spread it.
Well...
I worked the Cabarrus County Gun show Sat & Sun and posted a video of it....

getting the word out.
I Made Ron Paul Revolution Signs for the Sign Bomb
I made 24 2 foot by 6 foot Ron Paul Revolution signs to be hung the night after the NH primary.
Picked up bumper stickers
and yard signs, converted two friends, talked to a disenchanted American who hasn't voted in years (think he will come around) went to a dinner party and told everyone about RP. Signed up to be a Precinct leader.
