Pat Robertson: The War on Drugs Has Failed; Legalize Marijuana!

“I really believe we should treat marijuana the way we treat beverage alcohol,” Mr. Robertson said in an interview on Wednesday. “I’ve never used marijuana and I don’t intend to, but it’s just one of those things that I think: this war on drugs just hasn’t succeeded.”

Mr. Robertson’s remarks echoed statements he made last week on “The 700 Club,” the signature program of his Christian Broadcasting Network, and other comments he made in 2010. While those earlier remarks were largely dismissed by his followers, Mr. Robertson has now apparently fully embraced the idea of legalizing marijuana, arguing that it is a way to bring down soaring rates of incarceration and reduce the social and financial costs.

Quick, name as many elected Democrats as you can off the top of your head, who has signed in to law or introduced some form of pro-cannabis legislation.

Barney Frank
Dennis Kucinich
uh... ummm... uh....

Ok, now Republicans.

Ron Paul
Dana Rohrabacher
CA Gov. Schwarzenegger
NM Gov. Gary Johnson
NJ Gov. Christie

Now that's just real quick off the top of my head. I'm thinking further research would probably reveal that contrary to popular belief Republicans are far more likely than Democrats, to be a friend to pro-cannabis voters.

The Pods have spoken

Anyone who doubts the drug

Anyone who doubts the drug war is a failure only has to look to portugal...a country that decriminalized drugs 10 years ago. Drug use down by 50% and prison populations decreasing drastically.

it isn't rocket science....but people in charge of this country are just too damn stupid.

“Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it’s realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy.”
― Ron Paul

people make to much money on

people make to much money on the prison system..

Wow, never thought I would

Wow, never thought I would hear anything sensible from that man's mouth.

The "700 Club" will henceforth be known as the "420 Club"

You know he changed his mind because someone finally got him high and he realized - This is it...? This is what I've been demonizing all these years.

I've NEVER met a Warmongering Pot Head. Switch out Obama's cigarette with a joint. Who knows, we might actually become a truly peaceful nation.

i couldn't care less what robertson says/ thinks .......

but i'm sure he has considerable influence with his fans, so i guess this is a good thing.

That is a really adolescent and emo response!

So you would not drop your own prejudices for a few moments and be grateful that other people are arriving on the same enlightened opinion that you already held?

How are you being objective by just crossing him off your list like a good brownshirt, no matter what he says?

You should be delighted that other people are waking up to the high crimes of the Prison Industrial Complex...and no matter what their religious background.

Some of you DailyPaulers are extremists and purists and your lack of tolerance of other people finally coming around to your ideas...is embarrassing.

What is objective about that? Nothing. It is pure raw emotion and hatred...rather than logic.

You will alienate would-be allies with that approach.

Please drop the bigotry.

It is SO anti-EVERYTHING Dr. Paul stands for...it ain't funny.

Thank you

for articulately stating what I've been thinking!

When the American spirit was in its youth, the language of America was different: Liberty, sir, was the primary object. - Patrick Henry

sorry to offend you, but i'm NOT buying it.

if robertson were sincere, he would endorse ron paul and the other liberty candidates. this fraud robertson claims to be a champion of the right to life, yet he endorses mostly pro-abort candidates like giuliani. i consider santorum to be a fraud too, because he endorsed and even vigorously campaigned for arlen specter, who was an outspoken pro-abort. i look at what people do more than what they say. you can believe robertson if you want to, but i'll take him seriouly only when his actions are compatible with his own talking points.
it's really arrogant of you to label my comment as "adolescent" just because you don't agree with my opinion. it's adolescent of you to accuse me of bigotry when you don't have any idea what my opinion is based on. what does biotry have to do with anything said here?? i have good reason to not believe robertson, and bigotry has gone NOTHING to do with it.

Legalize freedom! All types.

Legalize freedom! All types.

Exactly right

How can weed be more dangerous than NDAA if they were so worried about our health they would not decide it is ok to just kill us.

Dr. Robertson the Libertarian...

He can be a cumudgeon and even a demagogue at times..but he has GRANDCHILDREN too and he sees the totalitarian HORROR of the Prison Industrial Complex corporatist machine, and all of the young impressionable lives it has ruined through the prison system.

We call ourselves the land of the free but we imprison more people than anybody on the planet, including China.

Its DISGUSTING...and we have LET this happen.

[How did we let this happen??]

Thank you Dr. Robertson. We need all the help we can get!!

Also folks...the Drug Policy Alliance is a good cause. They are the first "liberal" leaning non-profit that I have ever donated to, but their cause in ending the Drug War is a PROFOUNDLY good one.

Great to have Ethan Nadelmann and Pat Robertson in one room agreeing on a common enemy.

We need more of that!

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition is another good organization. http://www.leap.cc/

It's about F-in time...

Of all the asinine policies of our government, marijuana prohibition must be the most blatantly stupid. Anyone with half a brain sees that it's a total failure. There is literally no rational argument in favor of marijuana prohibition, none. They might as well try to outlaw winter, makes about as much sense.

It's about the money

Who makes more?

The govt or the people?

Here is a related article from RBN. They have been a great place to get news and information. Please help them out if you can, but most of all, listen in to the daily radio shows.

Rise up for Freedom!

The federal war on drugs is unconstitutional period.

I can see outlawing heroin, meth, and a lot of the more dangerous drugs at the local level. But making the argument that marijuana is a gateway drug is void because alcohol is a gateway drug as well. If you're going to outlaw all gateway drugs, you might as well outlaw alcohol as well.

I will use this to get Paul supporters

*double take*

Wait... what!?

This is good evidence towards the fact that we are winning in the long run. The Libertarian/Classical-Liberal intellectual movement is gaining ground.

I saw that!

It's about time someone else admits the truth!

Now if he would start studying more about foreign policy and verbalize publicly what he learns, more Christians would be educated on that matter as well. But then he would be taking chances on losing his spot on t.v., you know, the same chance that Judge Napolitano took. May God bless all the truth-seekers & truth-speakers!

100 years from now.

In history books, there will be a chapter that starts like this:

The Man Who Was Right
(about everything)

Ronald Ernest Paul was a U.S. Representative for Texas's 14th congressional district, which included Galveston, from 1997 to 2012, and a three-time candidate for President of the United States, as a Libertarian in 1988, and as a Republican in 2008 and 2012. He was an outspoken critic of American foreign and monetary policies...
