My Greatest Disappointment - The Ron Paul Attack Ads

Watch the ads of Ronald Reagan, John Kennedy, and Robert Kennedy. Their positive attributes were put on display without a mention of the other candidates.

We have a candidate who stands head and shoulders above the other candidates. He is a country doctor who's godly character measures up to a George Washington, who's family life measures up to a Robert Kennedy, who's intellectual capacity measures up to a John Kennedy, and who's charisma measures up to a Ronald Reagan. And yet we take pot shots at men that do not even deserve to be mentioned along side Dr. Ron Paul!!

Dr. Paul has never to my knowledge lowered himself to playing petty political games and now we force him to defend these ads. He defies conventional wisdom. His message unites us…

It breaks my heart. So many of our fellow Americans will never know the deliverance his message of liberty brings because we turned them off by our ads.

And how about you? Would you have gone over the wall for Ron Paul had you been introduced to him through one of these ads??

In 1788 our country needed someone to unit us. They found a man that they all united behind...some were Tories, some were cowards, some were flip-floppers, and some were serial hypocrites...some were just like you.

He united them ALL.

Liberty does that my friends

P.S. Don’t Agree? I challenge you to do your own poll regarding the impact of the $30,000,000 in ads we have purchased to promote the presidency of Ron Paul. Find 10 non Ron Paul supporters who have viewed one of the attack ads. Find one out of the 10 who were influenced to vote for Ron Paul as a result of seeing the ad. My findings were that they have a Negative impact on the viewer and the fact that we have lost ground nationally these past 6 months confirms my findings!

For what it's worth I think your were right.

The LP ads for Gary are far clearer in their focus on the high ground of Peace and Liberty, and their candidate is not nearly the statesman that RP is.

what ads?

I never saw an ad for him on tv. I'm a walking ad though. Its like I have a switch in my head when I hear someone mention politics I unload a fact sheet from a drum magazine.

I've found that the fact about gold (0.0602 ounces = with 95% accuracy a barrel of oil) to be the BEST to lead into federal reserve and monetary policy, etc.

I do live in Florida though and I know why ads weren't put in my state ;p

p.s. this is 5 months old. still relevant but its just a bit necro'd.

Homeland security statement: patriotism is now considered terrorism.
I love www.isidewith.com shared it with everyone I know. If anything they realize its not just a red and blue idiot running for reelection.

Exactly

From one walking ad to another.

My IN seems to be through the heart. Looking someone in the eye, speaking from my heart, saying something relevant about someone with honorable, straightforward character always brings a sense of well-being. But in the end I listen a lot more than I speak...where does their lack of freedom hurt most?

If their heart is open just enough to connect with mine...our sparks ignite and the excitement begins.

Deep connections...deep principles...deep direction.

Listen to that voice deep within...

It led the Pilgrims, the founders, and those at Valley Forge..

It is the antithesis of the monolithic, top-down, you can't live without us, ego-maniacal, root of most evil, I'm God, we Own you government.

It's life..

"Attack" ad just change mind on Newt supporter

I was arguing with a guy on the rig out here about Newt... he's saying Newt was the only conservative. Well, I pulled up the "Newt G: Serial hyposcracy" truth ad and showed him. Amazingly, he didn't have a problem with the ties to Freddie Mac, and thought that the individual mandate comments by Newt were taken out of context. Fortunately, the comments were cited in the ad being from a Forbes article in May '11. A quick Google search turned up the actual article, and the full story with direct quotes, and the tie to Hillary.

His jaw hit the floor, he admitted he was wrong and bummed about hearing the truth about Newt.

These are 'Truth' ads, sometimes you just have to 'attack' with the truth. Nothing wrong with that.

'Cause there's a monster on the loose

Wow

That's One! Glad you were there to follow up or you would have lost him....
Not sure it make's up for the millions turned off by the ads

They are more accurately labeled 'vicious, brutal attack ads'

So you think establishment speaks such great truth.

fyi - demint and heritage foundation and others suported romneycare and indiv mandate, so it doesn't make you that less of a conservative. the point is that since then all conservatives except romney and his close friends support the indiv mandate and gov't controlled healthcare.

so, newt has never lied that he had never supported the indiv mandate. not that i am a newt supporter, but it is best to give the person all of the info, versus distorted facts and leaving out romney as if to cover up his flaws and make him look bland or good while tainting his rivals and leaving a bad taste in the mouth of voters.

the person to expose in 'truth' ads is Romney himself.

Romney has greater and deeper ties to freddie mac. And he didn't exactly need that salary/compensation/money like other employees of freddie mac.

How could you say that george washington was godly? He was one of the leaders of the Native American holocaust

Ahem... I'm sorry for this maybe superfluous recall, but...

Before people pump themselves up too much on this thread taking position for either "camps", be it pro- or against the "attack" ads, well...

I suggest they make sure to give at least a polite listen to what Ron Paul had to say on those, precisely :

feel free to just scroll down herein, in context of the YT link I provided.

To not miss it, is the minimal favor one ought to do to Ron Paul on the topic, in my opinion.

(Rationale is I'm not sure we always bother to check out past the first page of comments)

So, just in case & 'hope this helps,

Thank you for him.

Millions For Negativity?

Did you really expect Ron Paul to stand there while a camera is rolling and say, "Oh, well, those aren't in line with my character - which is usually behaving as a gentleman, but. . .uh. . .well, my campaign lackeys think that's what's best, so we spent millions of dollars of our good peoples money going negative."

Ron Paul HAD to support the negative GARBAGE his campaign staff paid their friends to create.

I'm sorry to say but the

I'm sorry to say but the campaign wasn't going to win the majority of votes of the common man by highlighting his integrity and character. For example, look at who is leading in the polls and what they're doing to get attention: "attacking" their opponents. This is what the people want to see. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

correct

The attack ads work, because the media picks up on them and amplifies the effect. Often a cheap 30 second web ad gets parlayed into hours of sympathetic free air time. Of course the media will only care about your web ads if you poll somewhere near the top of the pack. Of course you'll only poll near the top of the pack if everyone knows your name early in the game. It is how the whole game works to keep establishment folks in power i.e. name recognition begets good early poll numbers, which begets "credibility" and fundraising which begets organization and free media as a legitimate contender. Know the cycle, and use it to our advantage. This is why the ubiquitous campaign sign is so important.

JESUS! Feed Them To The Lions!

That's what the Roman "people want[ed] to see". Does that make it right?!

I thought we didn't play "the game"? I thought we were head and shoulders above the other candidates trickery/manipulation/negativity? I thought our Ron Paul had integrity, is a man of GOOD character who didn't have to resort to bottom of the barrel wallowing in the muck with those inbreds?

This IS disappointing that any Ron Paul supporter believes the right thing to do is attack anyone. That flies in the face of everything Ron Paul stands for - in my opinion.

Shoot - then let's keep up the attacks on Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan - because that is what the blood-thirsty "people want to see" - let death reign supreme.

If we cannot win, taking the high ground - giving people the message of REAL hope, truth, freedom, peace, and prosperity - without trashing the opponents - we shouldn't even be in the race - because that makes us NO different than them.

Why is it

That pointing out your opponents positions is negative, but utlining you own is positive? Negativity is in the eye of the beholder.

Is RON PAUL A Negative Man?

No. He is not.

There are so many good attributes to highlight about Ron Paul - those were ignored in favor of paying millions to put Ron Paul in the same category as those we oppose.

How do you know that?

Most of us came to respect Ron Paul because of his integrity & fearlessness....much like Ronald Reagan,,

What are the masses anyway? They are individuals like you and I!

Majority of votes still not won with attack ads...

by paul because as rick says, paul is a different candidate and his marketing has to be handled a different way as you would do with liberty. you don't spread the message by not spreading the message but callign others lobbyists and fakes.

as you say, it worked for romney. but he is a warmonger with all of media and media pundits and politicians backing him, so it works for him. but too many people are turned off by him but that they will not rally much behind him in the general election.

What we GrassRoots could have accomplished with $30 MILLION!

We could have covered so much more ground rather than squeeze ourselves to buy materials while we were handing it out...

P.S.S. OK, I'm off to work.

Not one person has spoken of anyone influenced to vote for Ron Paul as a result of 30M spent on these ads!
Dr. Paul is a meek man and therefore beautifully connected to his heart which has lead him to great truth but he cannot do it alone or should he. It will take each of us looking for that deep connection within ourselves...
"The meek will inherit the earth" ..(and take it away from the tyrants). Meek refers to those with a spirit that is free of vanity, who are willing and obedient to God's leading, and are humble and patient in affliction. It is seen as a strength, not a weakness.

Let's be honest, people like

Let's be honest, people like us weren't going to be influenced by TV ads. In fact, none of us here on the DP should even have a TV or buy cable.

The campaign was reaching out to the average, asleep voter with catchy ads, as this is the only way to get to them. Believe me, if we had 500 million like Obama, we could easily get the influence, but it is simply a lack of money and voter ignorance that is causing poor numbers, unfortunately.

No

It is one on one, one by one. Have you reached out to your brother, sister, mom, or dad. Are they as asleep as you think! What woke you up...what make you so special?

Do the math. It started with my son & I & my wife. Now he and is older brother have two meet-ups in two counties(one with 150, the other with 65) and one of those boys has lead a charge to take over the county (over 30 precincts won for the good guys). Then there is almost every cousin, my mom (dad is deceased)...

then there is my wife who has a Ron Paul web site in our state that has over 10,000 members.

AND WE ARE AVERAGE PEOPLE REACHING OUT TO AVERAGE PEOPLE.

one on one with the most honest god-fearing politician in our lifetimes!

but his staff of establishment.

I agree that there should be

I agree that there should be more positive ads (at least one?).

I'm glad you posted this because I've been thinking the same thing over the past few days. Just a 2 minute commercial with Dr. Paul stating his vision in a calm clear voice would go extremely far.

So, thanks again for posting this and don't worry about the drama it may cause. There is a reason for everything, and what you did will help.

People support Ron Paul

People support Ron Paul because they reject the 'system' as a whole, not other candidates. The campaign should focus on changing hearts and minds on the big picture, not game theory political strategy.

Focus on the core message:

- The Fed is destroying our currency.
- The war on terror and police state tactics make us less safe.
- Government regulation is counter-productive.

gold = money
war = health of the state
liberty = prosperity

Disagree

When going against enemies, Ron Paul has a great style... He ridicules them but in the most gentle way. I love to hear his attacks, because they are educational and amusing at the same time. Of course, times are bad and serious, but his attacks are stress relievers, and a big hope that problems could be solved based on reason and not nukes.

But he does it Right to their Faces

and he is ready to defend his truth and that, my friends, is actually the biblical way you confront wrong in another individual.

Not with tricky one liners, scary music, and eye candy...like a biased pharma ad!

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Martin Luther King Jr.

The presentation was bad

I believe providing the information was necessary. People don't get informed any other way because they won't take the time to do their homework and find out exactly what their candidate's voting record is, etc. So, an ad telling them these facts is helpful. But, the way they were done was attacking, rather than educating. I wasn't too crazy about that, either.

People don't seem to listen to ads explaining RP's positive positions when they have their mind set on "he is unelectable and my candidate is great." But if they are educated on the real issues their candidate is not great at, I think it helps.

However, we would have to spend a lot more TV time on education to override the major brainwashing they get the rest of the time.
