Loss of confidence in the dollar?

An old economic joke: Bob and Dave are hiking in the woods. They stumble on a bear who starts running after them. How fast does Bob have to run?

Answer: faster than Dave.

The point is, even if the USA's economy is suffering, nearly all other nations' economies are suffering more...so people will invest in the ship that is weathering the storm the most...USA bonds, USA stock market, USA real estate, USA everything.

Indeed, USA bonds have been soaring the past decade. Sure, the media likes to scare you by saying that The US is borrowing monstrous amounts of money...but mostly via extremely low interest bonds to investors looking for a safe place for *some* of their money. The US government will make far more off the bonds than they'll pay back...and no, China (nor anyone else) can make the US pay back in one huge lump sum.

I know there is a big gold/silver push here. *Some* money should be put toward riskier investments. But it's probably wiser to invest in a diversified group of gold mining and gold selling companies as Ron Paul and Peter Schiff have done.

So I don't have a problem investing in gold-related products/services...unless the stock market picks back up. Indeed, there is an inverse relationship between the stock market and gold (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Dow_Gold_Ratio.gif). But gold and the value of the dollar aren't related enough to base any investment decisions on. Treat gold, the commodity investment, like any other market investment: its value comes from whether people are buying it or selling it. The reason why gold and stocks are inversely related is that commodities and bonds are holding places when stocks go down...the teeter-totter of the market. But the value of the dollar is an external force that affects the entire market in the same way that any inflation/deflation occurance would.

Getting back to the original point, even though some may lose confidence in the US dollar, they will lose even more confidence in nearly all other currencies. So if they invest in currency, a large chunk will still be in the US dollar.

Several other countries are printing money

Following the US model, many other countries are creating money, seemingly out of thin air.

The truth though is that the US dollar is backed by a tremendous amount of goodwill, established infrastructure, established working class, etc. (Don't get me wrong, it is still wrong to keep increasing the amount of money being circulated...that's a recipe for inflation.)

Anyway, most other countries don't have these things established, thus, they shouldn't print money as the Fed does. And the world's investors know it and won't invest heavily in those markets (long term).

However, if the same people printing money in the USA are the same in other countries, then some of the burden of lesser countries economies falls on the USA (and other great countries like Germany).

This is the world's largest Ponzi scheme. And the USA will be one of the biggest losers.

One Word

(You know how in Germany they combine words to make one word)

That was really good. Thank

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men and women to not support Ron Paul!

I hope Taleb gets some kind

I hope Taleb gets some kind of advisory role in the Paul administration. This guy is so smart it hurts.

One bright bulb..

on a dim Christmas Tree.

I just shared on Facebook

Great interview, and he cuts through the BS question of electability. "I support him no matter what."

I love the urgency and matter of fact presentation.

Well done

It's great to see a celebrity that gives an INFORMED opinion. Not a half hearted opinions with roundabout answers - a good solid, takes balls to make because there's going to be backlash but you're tough enough to give it anyway, opinion.

This is how a true believer

This is how a true believer of Dr. Paul's message sounds like: Unwavering! Again, great interview.

In 5 years time Europe will have blown up and America will be an economic basket case.

China has major problems, but nothing like those of US and Europe. China will be relatively stronger.

China is making an alliance of non USD countries. This alliance will be far larger than US in terms of GDP in 5 years time. This alliance wil comprise of China, Russia, India, Japan, Brazil, Australia and a bunch of small countries. Includes Iran.

Only way to change this scenario is to vote Ron Paul.

Black Swann author should be on stump...

and doing interviews in place of benton/others. This author has a deep understanding of paul's platform and its relevance to the current us affairs that makes him a better spokesperson for Paul than others.

I love intellect. He nails it in this interview and the CNBC neocon-ish interviewer is left in the dust.

Nassim Taleb for president in 2016.

Would vote for the guy.

Great first vid of the day... ...got home late... freaking totally awesome.

Always 302 views on youtube

This is my first post yet I'm a long time reader and supporter of RP financially and socially. It seems like every time I click on a youtube link from the DP, it always shows 302 views. Is this the same for others or am I just "lucky".

It surprises me with all the readers and posters here that there are only 302 views and with that number always being the same, it can't be a coincidence.

google it

if u had googled the problem, u would have realized that all new videos get stuck at that counter and thereafter the counter updates slowly.
instead u made an account here to put up this ridiculous theory !!

Dr.Ron Paul's 2002 Predictions

It just hasn't updated

If you look at other comments about it, you will see that youtube doesn't update past that count on the first day. Check back tomorrow. We need to not be looking for conspiracy theories quite so hard. ;-)

Am a non citizen

I support Ron Paul because I love his ideas. And like Nassim said.. he is the only one offering real solutions.

True...you could not pay for a better endorsement.

I'm not sure.

What is his sphere of influence? Are some endorsements actually detrimental? I appreciate his heart, but we need to garner votes.
