My Ron Paul yard sign was stolen. Amazing encounter with the sheriff

I loved my street sign. It got thousands of views every day. I put two mini american flags on top of it for some extra kick. I drive home from class, and the sign is gone.

I'm not going to let this go unnoticed, so I called the sheriff.

The sheriff arrived, and I told him I put up a Ron Paul sign and it got stolen. I explained how I know he can't find it and that I just wanted them to know. I said I'm going to keep putting them up (I have 6 more signs). He told me to keep putting them up. He said things like, "I feel your pain putting up a sign like this. And during political season we deal with a lot of stuff like this." He had a theory that some Santorum supporters probably came by and thought it would be funny to steal my sign. I noticed he knew a bit about politics. He told me that I obviously know my rights and suggested I try and citizens arrest them if I spot them coming again.

Then the conversation got good. He told me, that he can't endorse Ron Paul in uniform, but he agrees with just about everything he says. He said he served in Iraq for many years and is very against the war. We started talking about undeclared wars, constitutionalism, and why we need to get out of Afghanistan, Iraq, and should not get into Iran. He said his job as sheriff is to protect our constitutional rights. He told me that he watches his coworkers to ensure they are doing the same. He told me he voted for a libertarian candidate for the last 3 presidents, but sadly none of them have won.

This conversation was awesome. I truly love my sheriff now and it's nice to hear there are cops fighting the good fight for liberty and peace.

Now I need ideas on how to protect my sign. He suggest I stake it down and attach it to the ground so its too hard to steal. Anybody have any ideas?

PS- those punks didn't win. The new sign thats up is twice the size. Instead of 2 American flags I'm going to put 4. Every time it gets stolen, I'll keep putting it up. I'll eventually catch them and citizens arrest them.

Oh and sign this pledge if you haven't yet already:

Red marker dye

If it is a 2-sided sign, inside the sign, between the two sides, put some bags of powdered red dye. Tie the tops of the bags with string. Anchor the string into the ground by tying the strings to stakes pounded into the ground. When the thieves rip the sign out of the ground, the strings pull off the bags and release the dye powder onto the bandits.

It's the same concept as rigging a bag of money to hurl red dye on thieves when they open the bag. It might take some doing, but it's worth a try.

Don't fret man, my yard sign

Don't fret man, my yard sign got stolen too :)

Just gotta put up a sign 10x as big that can't fit into any car as a big F U

btw I love the fact that your cops are libertarian minded, constitution loving individuals. Wish more cops were like that

Post a "Beware of Pit Bull" sign next to it!

$0.99 SOLUTION!

I certainly can't afford a security system, let alone one for a yard sign. Go to the dollar store and you will find a little device that costs $1 (one dollar!) and comes with batteries. This is what house alarm systems use to tell when windows and doors are opened. It consists of two parts that you must align with each other in order to "arm" de alarm. If they get pulled apart from each other, a 90+ dB alarm goes off! It's loud and it's annoying to the point where it should wake you up if your window faces the front yard. My room has a door to the back of the house, which is likely the way robbers would enter my house. Unfortunately I sleep deeply and I snore, so the only thing that will wake me up is my little $1 alarm that will make sure violent intruders meet jacketed hollow points. Good luck!

motion sensor

if it is stolen mostly at night, then use those motion sensor automatic lights and maybe some motion sensor webcam system to monitor ur yard.
if u want to be mean, u can give them some shock therapy ! lol.
(or at least some itch powder !)

missing signs.

In '08 we had many missing signs, turns out the signs were being taking by Ron Paul supporters who could not afford some for themselves. Not saying this is your problem, but keep an open mind.

GO RON GO

Thieves for RP!

ROFFFLLMAAOOOOO!!

ROFFFLLMAAOOOOO!!

I had the same problem so

I had the same problem so what I did was attach them to the chain link fence around my yard. I fastened the signs to a piece of 3/4" plywood the same size as the sign. Then I took a slightly smaller piece of 3/4" plywood behind the sign on the back side of the fence, and screwed them together from the back side with 2" screws. The only way to take those down was to take the whole fence down. Never had another problem. Of course if you have the money to piss away the best thing is cameras to nail the bastards.
Had a similar problem with someone bashing my mailbox. I ended up putting a smaller mail box inside a large one. Then I had a metal shop fabricate a 1/4" steel plate to go around the inside of the right hand side and then I filled the rest with high strength concrete. The last guy that tried to smash that box probably ended up in the hospital with a broken hand. He he he....

sign

Hi go get a motion camera like for hunting and catch them red handed its worth the $60.00 and its fun I hate thieves!!!

This happened to me before the SC Primary and

I did the same thing. Everytime they stole my sign I put out twice the number. One night I really had had it l- I think I went out and put up about 50 signs - all over my yard - turned on all my lights and left my door open with a sign on it that said - go ahead take my signs - there will be more next time! :)

They never touched my signs after that.

Today there is only one sign in my front yard = all the rest have been passed on to other states and other people for use but the sign has never been touched since. I think they figured out that the more they pushed me the more I would push back.

Don't tread on me....:) Good Luck! And great news on your Sheriff!

Please let us know

Where you live! Looking for someplace new to relocate to, and I'd love to be surrounded by law enforcement like that!

I'm out here in

I'm out here in California.... you don't want to move here. Its getting tough to live here. Families here pay 50% on taxes when its all said and done.

We know a family that pays 50,000 a year in property tax, 18,000 for a vineyard. They even have the prop 13 discount and there taxes are unreal.

We have entirely liberal leaders here its awful. If it wasn't for Facebook and google, our town would have no economy we get regulated so hard.

My town is libertarian/ republican, but right next to us are Palo Alto and Los Altos. They jerry mander the districts so we always end up with democrats.

Put up a motion sensor light and

one of those fake security cameras. Great deterrent.

Forget messing with the

Forget messing with the sign! Get the person!

Get video evidence of it happening because it would be really nice to know who is doing it. If you cant afford it, get in contact with a local Ron Paul supporter/s and ask them if they can donate money for a camera. Im sure they would love to help you out. Maybe they can help you out with other things such as legal action.

Why does Alex Jones insert a "submit to fear" subliminal message in his movies?

they take down 1 sign

I put up 5 more in the same spot. They can't stop us if we all work together!

Here's

what I used to catch a couple of car burglars after they made a few successful hauls.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/chamberlain-wireless-m...

This device combined with a few rounds of .45 ACP whizzing closely past their heads, made their last attempt a failure and served as a reminder that we weren't interested in late night unannounced visitors. I would never have entertained deadly force unless my life was in danger so please do NOT take this as a suggestion.

I would never personally recommend this method, but it did end up with them eventually being caught, and also built a strong relationship with the local sheriff, which is always a good thing.
With a wireless alarm, you might be able to contact the Sheriffs while they are in the middle of trespassing on your property, and have them get caught. You might also get a description of the vehicle and or license number.

Please be careful. No one's life or health is worth a political sign.
Good luck. Hope you catch them.

Put up a hidden camera.

Put up a hidden camera and then post the video to YouTube after they steal the sign.

Or worse...

Or worse... stick 4chan on it. That would be the most amusing ending to a sign snatching ever!!

Somebody tell me

The process in how you citizen arrest somebody lol

Here's what I do to stop my sign from being stolen

I use some 160lb test decoy cord ( also called catfish bankline ) that I bought at cabelas and I tie it to the sign frame and attach a few tin cans that have a few rocks in them to the other end about 30 feet away. Then I hang that string with cans over a tree branch that's almost 30 feet away from the sign. I also use a upside down Y shaped stick that's stuck in the ground near the base of the tree to hold the line going to the sign close to the ground so it can't be seen or tripped over. Doing this means the person is going to be surprised that when they try to grab the sign and quickly get in their car they'll notice the long and strong string is preventing them from getting away as fast as they wanted and the cans with rocks in them will make a lot of unwanted noise as they struggle with it. Unless they have a knife handy right at that second they're just going to drop the sign and take off. I've had my signs stolen 3 separate times, but as soon as I started using the strong string and cans I haven't lost a sign yet.

Here's the cord I use http://www.cabelas.com/product/Wallace-Decoy-Anchor-Cord/707...

Bump

This is the best answer so far. =)

Thanks

I'm glad you like it. I think it's the cheapest option too. 30 feet of strong string only costs a few pennies and the rocks, tin cans and Y shaped stick are free.

Electrify it!

Ha, seriously. There was a guy here in Cincinnati who did that a few years back. He had rigged a small wire frame around the outside of the sign and ran wires to the frame from the house. I'm sure he had a switch for it, but it worked! In fact, the people were caught redhanded (pardon the pun) and tried suing the guy. They lost and were charged with theft and vandalism. LOL! I'm no electrician, so I cannot give advice on how to do it, all I know is don't use 220V ... the last headline we need is "Santorum supporter found dead...electrocuted by Ron Paul sign"

1. Buy poisonous tree frog on

1. Buy poisonous tree frog on ebay.
2. Put gloves on, and rub frog all over sign.
3. Problem solved.

j/k of course ;)

Maybe you should put another

I saw a TV newsmagazine about car theft.

They interviewed former thieves and the thieves said to avoid car theft, there is a method to attain 100% success in protecting your car: Put a dog in it.

Could you stake a doberman nearby?

You could start another thread:

What type of dog do I tether near my Ron Paul sign? What's the most "consistent" breed? ;D
