Peacetime Martial LawSubmitted by chabotjo on Mon, 03/19/2012 - 10:59
Over the weekend there was a thread regarding the fact that Obama recently signed an executive order defining the parameters for which the government can "take stuff" during times of need. At first glance this sounds appauling, and I was set in a mental tailspin for a while worried that "the end" was near. Thinking, "they know something". It didn't help that the news was not reporting it at all, not even fox. Further solidifing my angst.
Well after investigating a little, i found that since 1994 there has been a similar eo in place regarding the US capability to take dibs. In other words, the news was telling me don't worry this has always been in place.
However, I think this is an unnessary eo, and we as americans should question this trusting trend. Essentinally it is a standing collectivist order and as a country, we could turn to dictatorial tyrany in a heart beat, at the whim of the President with it in place. Am I wrong? Obama continues to sign things he promises he will not use. Then what are they for???
