4/20 End the Drug War Money Bomb? Good Idea to Win California?

I'm on the fence about this myself (and it's my idea!).

I've been saying along the trail that once the "social conservative" states are done voting, and when it's time to really crack down and win California, that we can start leading with the Drug War issue, specifically legalizing marijuana.

4/20 is a huge day in the legalization movement.

It'll be enough time for the money to be used (as the 5/1 Taleb fund-raiser is obviously geared toward helping with our Primary).

However, even with the social conservative states done voting, we still have state conventions and the national convention, in which we will need to win over delegates.

My question I guess, would a 4/20 Money Bomb even be noticed by most non-Paul people. Wouldn't it only be noticed by pro-Paul/legalization people? And at this point, is there any point to "run away" from our position on drug policy?

I think this would be a great way of reminding voters in California that Paul supports our efforts to legalize marijuana. It'd help me out a lot too as I will probably be stopping by a lot of people's houses on 4/20 and can conveniently "check real quick" the donation total (as can many of us in California) as we are hanging out.

4/15 "In It To Win It!" - 4/20 "Hemp for Victory!" Money Bomb!

I added the 4/15 banner to my site (and joined the coalition). I suggest we keep the Money Bomb going until 4/20 and promote that as a "Hemp for Victory" Money Bomb. This gives us 6 days to raise as much money as possible.

This will leave us with 4 days before the PA Primary (Paul's Birth State), over a month to Texas, and a month and a half to California.

This is the best of all worlds!! Let's join forces and pull this off!

Everyone supports Hemp. It doesn't sound silly (like a Marijuana themed Money Bomb). It makes use of that day to share with the "420 culture." And only adds to the already scheduled 4/15 (Tax Day?) Money Bomb.

Let's make use out of all these themes to draw attention to the campaign.

I vote YES and move to call it the "420 SMOKE BOMB"

Even though there's a money bomb scheduled for 4/15, I think a Marijuana specific money bomb would be VERY SUCCESSFUL. Could be noticed WORLD WIDE, not just in California.. I know Jodie Emery would be on board! Let's go ahead and duplicate efforts.
I know many smokers wouldn't have a problem flipping 20 bucks to a future vision of freedom. Next time you buy a bag, just put aside an extra 10 or 20 bucks and DONATE TO THE SMOKE BOMB!

Its not a Marijuana Money Bomb

It's a Hemp Money Bomb! Legalize Hemp it's an Amazing plant!

Most people vote based on

Most people vote based on more than on issue. Personally, I don't think this is a good name for the moneybomb. I think it alienates about half of all California voters. How about Restore Economic Freedom.. okay, not much better but Republicans in general are not friendly towards legalization of drugs.

This is the type of Money Bombs that gain Buzz and make a statement!

Vote this thread up. This

Vote this thread up.

This would bring in lots of cash, and lots of publicity. The people who might be put off by it if there's any media spin, wouldn't vote RP anyway... Besides, just frame it as end the war on drugs, if anything.

I think it's a great idea!

I think it's a great idea! Hemp (good for the economy and earth) and cannabis (good for less crime, economy, freedom and earth) legalization.

For those more hesitant, I think it's a good idea to emphasize hemp and how it is good for the economy and Earth. (People can't cry about getting rid of the EPA when you have hemp.)

Maybe, even Snoop Dogg can advertise/mention it, we know he likes cannabis legalization since he served time for non-violent "drug" possession and has spoke/rapped on the injustices of it. Call out the celebs that supposedly support it, it's time to hit the masses hard since Obama rejected legalizing or even addressing the issue, and made a mockery of those who posed the question.

Bad idea for Paul's campaign

Bad idea for Paul's campaign to do it. He needs to denounce drug use but also acknowledged the government has no business telling law abiding citizens what they can do in their homes. Explain that he does not use drugs and that he never has. Expalin all the problems and waste created with the "war on drugs" and how it has failed miserably. Explain that he is a doctor and to lock drug users up in prison with murders and rapists is not the way to handle the issue and it actually often creates more problems for the users.

People have the wrong idea about this issue! I think a lot of older people hear he wants to legalize drugs and immediately think Ron Paul wants to sell heroin OTC at Walmart!

I agree.

I want drug laws left to the states too but egan is right.
Remember, we are trying to win a republican primary here.
not many pro-hemp neocons.

I think it's a great idea.

I think it's a great idea. One of the great things about being the "underdog" now is that we don't have to tiptoe around these issues to keep our support among "mainstream" voters. Let's take advantage of it.

We should make a video that is really funny to watch when you're high, like Ron Paul kicking Obama in the balls HAHA. That's the only way to get the attention of the intended audience.

Definitely have to include those old graphics

I seriously need to find time to do this. I know I'm basically not working...so yeah, I'll figure this out (I am actually doing some canvasing for money out in Philly with a local group here; picked up 3 shifts this week for the experience/exposure/money - non-Paul related; but I am getting to talk about Paul quite a bit with the other canvassers).

I'm going to do voter registration Saturday, but maybe Sunday I'll have nothing going on (wait, got a meeting at 4pm with a group out here...). Okay, I'm busy, but I'll try to find time to figure out how to build a site (or connect with the group that did the last two money bombs and get their model).

There is a money bomb this Friday, but let's go for 4/20

I'm down to do this.

I'm not sure if Regulate Marijuana Like Wine will get ballot access or not.

Though, I think Ron Paul's campaign will still remain the forefront of legalization. I don't know if I can get a website going until I get back to California and have more time and resources, (April 10th). I can put an article up on my site and help promote it though.

If anyone has the resources and time to build a website (maybe the Black This Out crew can help) for a 4/20 Money Bomb, I'm down to help...

Okay, I'll look into doing it actually, but if someone wants to take charge and build it in the next few days or week then just do it and post it up. I personally haven't put together any sort of pledge/tally widgets/websites before.

Basically, I think this is a good idea. Got far more favorable responses than negative, and the Money Bomb this Friday didn't get enough time to promote (not that that is an excuse not to participate!).

Let's really bring Marijuana Prohibition, and the Drug War (and HEMP!) to the attention of the Internet this 4/20, and relate it all to the Good Doctor!

Do not be ashamed of this issue

Do we not aim to see this be the GOP position on the issue? Do NOT be ashamed to come out on this issue. You/We are not alone.

Gov. Schwarzenegger, Gov. Christie, Gov. Gary Johnson are all Republican Governors just to name a few, who have signed common sense legislation on this issue. Pat Robertson anyone? My point is this IS a Republican issue for a growing segment of the GOP.

This issue will set the GOP apart from the Democratic party who have this constituency fooled and expose the Democrats for the frauds they are on this issue.

It's scary to be at the forefront of change - the patriot is scarce. Be brave and free the weed.

"But let it not be said that we did nothing.

Let not those who love the power of the welfare/warfare state label the dissenters of authoritarianism as unpatriotic or uncaring. Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security. Understanding the magnificent rewards of a free society makes us unbashful in its promotion, fully realizing that maximum wealth is created and the greatest chance for peace comes from a society respectful of individual liberty."
-Congressman Ron Paul, June 2007

Great Idea!

Most people that are not interested in ending the drug war will not know what 4/20 is. So no loss there. BUT, everyone in CA knows! YES!!! I am in for $100.

"Legalize Freedom Money Bomb"

"Legalize Freedom Money Bomb" on 4/20 would be my vote.

"Where liberty is, there is my country." -Benjamin Franklin

That so dull

Balls it up. Give it a title that people want to click on. Can we try to be a little daring for a change - a little controversial - like we were back in late 07, back in our heyday. Not all scandalous attention is bad attention.

The good news is Glenn Beck isn't calling us radical Guy Fawkes worshiping terrorists. Bad news is we're not breaking any single day fund raising records.

You're right though the media will just take advantage of the opportunity to paint us as pot smoking crazies. But wait a minute... They've already been there and done that... numerous times.

Call it "My Aunt Betty's Big Bouncy Butt" Money Bomb for all I care - so long as it got a title that is so enticing that even the world outside of political-geek-land feels overwhelmingly compelled to click the link.

Free the Weed

I've been suggesting this for so long. Focus on Hemp and present from 3 angles.

01. -Agricultural/Industrial use, fuel, fiber, energy. (lift the federal ban, energy independence, jobs)
02. -Medical use, states rights.

Do not advocate or promote recreational use of drugs, but rather focus on...

3. -Criminal Injustice System, the Prison Industrial Complex, Border violence/illegal immigration
(appeal to the social AND the fiscal, on both sides)

great idea!

Let's put it this way....

if all of the voters who voted yes for the legalization back in 2010 all come out to vote for RP, he will not only desecrate the California vote in a colossal landslide, but he will overtake the popular vote despite only winning one state!

I say this page needs to be at the top of the DP until after 4/20.

Money Laundering

In my opinion on of the biggest hurdles to overcome in ending the war on drugs is the money laundering. The big banks. The next is the funds that are allocated to the so called agencies that supposedly combat drugs"not regulate it behined the cattle's eyes" Drug Money Is BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG did you not get BIG buisness. There is not a county in the United states that you can not get criminalizes or non prescribed prescription drugs if you want it! The underground prescription drug market is not a new market but It is fascinating! They have some of the more addictive drugs and the profits from behind the curtains?

hope for the best

if you get a money bomb started...

no matter the theme...or specific allocation of the donations, i will atleast donate $25 maybe more now that i just got my new job today...and a war on drugs money bomb sounds like a really great idea...keep up this thought train...i think i have a good theme too... "The throw Romney, Obama, Santorum, and that other guy out of politics for good Money Bomb" lol....

Oops, I thought you were

Oops, I thought you were talking about this month.

RON PAUL 2012 * Restore America * Bring The Troops Home

The reason it didn't pass

The reason it didn't pass here in California last time, is because of a huge rumor that the tobacco companies were going to take it over...in that it would be regulated like tobacco and not wine. They didn't want to believe the tobacco companies statement that they didn't want anything to do with the industry. We're lied to so much, marijuana users didn't believe it, so it didn't pass. This year, the bill that they're trying to get on the ballot specifically states for marijuana use to be regulated like wine.
A recent poll reveals that California voters, by a 62% to 35% margin, with 3% unsure, support a ballot initiative to regulate marijuana like wine. Lets hope it passes this time!

That will ONLY result in BAD PRESS.

That will ONLY result in BAD PRESS.

Like we need that...

Wisdom Strategies

NO PRESS is BAD press

just look at the struggle for the revolution...

I doubt the "Press" would cover it

They haven't covered the last couple money bombs, they hardly cover Ron Paul at all.

I think the last thing they'd want to do is remind California that Ron Paul is their candidate when it comes to drug reform; not Obama.

But yeah, that is why I posted this, wanted to see where people stood on that...

Jack Wagner

Great Idea!

Great Idea!

concentrating on legalizing marijuana soley will only marginalize him. He should say to end the Federal war on drugs and let each state decide which drugs it wants to legalize - I think Paul is of this idea, but never explicitly states it. Californians would still apreciate it, but CA may be a closed primary.
