I don't get it

I watched it twice to be sure, and I just don't get it.

It should have made it a

It should have made it a little clearer to Joe Sixpack who/what the "etch-a-sketch" reference was all about...other than that, I like it.

Not everyone is as politically aware as we are, and would like them to be, and we need to remember that.

"Truth is an absolute defense to the charge of paranoia."

What was the etch-a-sketch

What was the etch-a-sketch reference all about? And why does Newt and Frothy have them in their stump speech?

This was a comment by

This was a comment by somebody in the Romney campaign. He said that after Romney wins the nomination by pretending to be conservative they can erase that picture like shaking an Etch-a-Sketch and redraw Romney as a moderate in his run against Obama.

Dont like it

I dont like this ad.
- It makes Ron Paul look "Wacky"
- Does not suggest any solutions to any of the issues addressed
- Does not hit any emotional buttons.

It does have a novelty value. But not as clever as it thinks it is, and I have seen much better frankly.

This ad kicks ass!

Come on you complainers, this ad is awesome. It appeals to emotions of the stressed out public and points out Ron Paul as the **only one** with a clear solution. I think some of you need to stop analyzing for a day, get some fresh air! This ad had kick ass emotional appeal to people sick of the games and the bullshit in Washington. The flash of the stressed out lady before showing Ron Paul's name in big bold strong letters and he is the only one with a clear solution. Romney was in the video too guys. It flashed Obama first and then Romney, maybe its a way to subconsciously associate Obama and Romney in the viewers mind. That is the likely psychology. Also its always Mitt ROmeny you hear and see, maybe they want viewers to associate Ron Paul with the theme of the "only one who can save us", to see ROn Paul as the front runner, not like the guy trying to "beat Romney". They are not portraying Paul as beneath Romeny like the media does. I think some of you need to take a break and get fresh eyes ;)

does not compute

i know its a bit silly to go after the comment, but i thought this was an opportunity to go after all the 3 of them.why show Romney just once towards the end ?
this seems like an ad put out by the Romney campaign !!
it is quite true that Romney is the etch-a-sketch candidate.there is no two ways about it.

Flash of Obama then equal timed flash of Romney...

Dont you see the ad links Obama and ROmeny in the viewers mind by doing that?? More on a subconscious level. ROn Paul is the front runner in this ad. ROmeny is just another Obama ;) This ad is much more clever than you think.

I don't really like this ad

1- It doesn't have a personal touch to it and seems too commercial, plastic. At this stage of the game it's time to change the ad strategies and have Dr.Paul speaking about his campaign or his plan in a more face to face, private fashion.

2- I feel as if this ad attacks Santorum and Gingrich about them attacking Romney. For the first time ever, I feel as if the media narrative depicting Paul as Romney's attack dog has some truth to it. It's unsettling me...

It would have been good if they would have started off with the whole etch n' sketch thing and show all of the others attacking each other for the first 15-20 seconds and then stop the dramatic music, play some soothing music and have Ron Paul talking sense and his real solutions to the problems for 30 secs.

Worst ad of the campaign to the point of being potentially detrimental.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom — go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, an

something VERY wrong about this video

it forces the viewer to read on his own, BAD IDEA. Putting aside the fact you have people who read slow, can't read or have poor eyes, what if a person wasn't looking at his screen for 1 minute?

AUDIO REINFORCEMENT IS A MUST.

Does this ad help Romney and is this

Paul coming to Romney's rescue again if what media is asking.

I was wondering why I didn't get this ad as i wrote earlier.

media is saying paul in this ad is showing that he is tired of this etch a sketch comment as he thinks it is silly and does not address issues and blames romney's rivals for not talking about the issues.

clearly etch a sketch indicates a huge flaw in romney as the worst gop candidate possible bec he is already telling people that although they voted him as the nominee, he is going to screw the gop by painting a different picture of himself in the general election and he won't tell you yet what that new romney will be.

I actually agree. This is

I actually agree. This is something that, surprisingly, I agree with the media about. While I don't think the media should dominate the news cycles with this for weeks on end, the fact that he lies so much and is terribly inconsistent speaks volumes as to how bad of a candidate Romney is.

I actually don't understand the point of this ad.

Great ad . . . yes, but I

Great ad . . . yes, but I would like to see Ron Paul himself more. Seeing more of the other candidates may not work for them, but why do 100% of the people like Ron Paul?

We like Ron Paul because of Ron Paul. He is his message. His voice, words, and body movement all bleed his message.

None of what you like of Paul is coming out in the ad,

so why do you like the ad other than it is coming from a gop estab campaign.

jj

Great AD !!

Everyone except RP supporters love the etch-a-sketch...a tablet for the uninformed lol

Tired of the Games?

I'm willing to bet the majority of Americans are, indeed, tired of the games which are costing them dearly. This somber advertisement is a nice culmination of a great series from the Paul campaign in 2012. Keep hitting this thematic question home during the remainder of the primaries. People are INDEED tired of the rhetoric and games.

I was surprised after reading

I was surprised after reading some of the comments here. I see this as a great ad that attacks all three of the other candidates while presenting Ron Paul as the clear alternative.

The whole etch-a-sketch idea reflects poorly on Romney. Who knows what Romney stands for. Romney is whatever he thinks people want him to be. The others are making that point but they are doing it by talking about a toy. There is no discussion of the issues. They are no better on the issues.

The only one talking about real issues is Ron Paul. Hence the bold lines about 12 million unemployed, a nation at war, 15 trillion in debt. And a real plan to restore America. While the others talk about children's toys, Ron Paul is talking about serious adult topics that everyone should be paying attention to.

I first saw a shortened version of this ad on the Jesse Benton clip from MSNBC. I just yelled "YES!" and pumped my fist. That is how it made me feel.

I Bet Someone Could Come Up With a Cute Youtube Video Using

the Etch-A-sketches by using ideas from everyone here at the DP. One idea is have Newt's face drawn on the Etch-A-sketch and have someone, maybe a child's puppet or animal come by and shake him off, then have Santorum's face on another Etch-A-sketch, and have someone or something shake him off and last but not least, Romney, drawn on the Etch-A-Sketch, and shake, shake, shake, poof he's gone. Kinda like how Ron Paul said on the Jay Leno show the other night, I wish they would all drop out. Of course, the one and only Etch-A-Sketch with Ron Paul in color that can not be shaken off no matter how many times you try to shake it because you cannot shake an idea who's time has come (whatever that quote is of Ron's) If done well I could see it going viral. Song "Shake Your Booty", shake, shake, shake, shake your booty. "Shake Your Etchy"

I noticed

Santy and Newt at their respective press conferences holding up these "etch-a-sketch" toys.

RP should hold a press conference and hold up giant strap on, and say this is what you're going to get if you vote for anyone else...

Sorry for the crudeness. I couldn't resist. I'm in a grab you by the lapels kind of mood.

It's infuriating to watch these clowns run around with their silly props while the country burns.

Giant Strap on! lol, lol, lol, lol

Jefferson, I can't stop laughing...lol,lol,lol,lol

I thought it was funny

I think it points out how Dr. Paul wants to talk about the real issues and the media and the other candidates are just playing politics. It is also good because it might get replayed during news broadcasts, so free airtime and Paul gets mentioned.

do something productive

I'm all for complaining when it gets me what I want ahahaha. But all the complainers here about this ad should just make their own ad and submit it to the campaign. it's not hard to make. Point is do something productive please.

No matter what you think of this ad...

I think we can all agree it's MUCH better than, say, this:

http://youtu.be/30yxHqSUva8

Although it would probably go viral just the same, they'd be laughing at Paul instead of the other candidates.

A remake of that without the

A remake of that without the fake sounding people would be great. The people in that video don't sound real. RevPac has some good interviews and shots that probably already has enough to do the remake.

think again

Laughter is good in the long run. It's tricky to compare the two ads. The new ad might have some merit, but it's entirely grim. I hope it fades quickly before folks associate RP with "entirely grim".
