Oh no not Iran's Navy. Maybe

Oh no not Iran's Navy. Maybe we should get our boys home and start working on building better sub-detection....I would be worried about the Chinese:

Nov. 14, 2006 A Chinese submarine came close to the USS Kitty Hawk carrier group in the Pacific Ocean last month, a top U.S. naval commander confirmed Tuesday, adding the encounter could have triggered an "unforeseen" incident.

And then there is this one:

It doesn't make sense

Iran has ZERO reason to provoke us.

It's just a game

I read/saw a news story many years ago that countries' militaries play "nya, nya, nya nya nya" types of games with each other all the time, and they are not serious provocations. My hunch is that the Iranians in the gunboats were a little bored that day and wanted to have a little fun. Notice how there's no context for this given out by the Pentagon; this is pumped up nothing news before the NH primaries, that's all!

It's true, sailors get bored very easily

I've had conversations with sonar operators who work aboard US naval submarines who chuckle when they tell me, "Yeah, we were using you guys for target practice all last week." So, there is plenty of truth to what basiltaco writes above. The powers that be are trying to turn a potentially playful incident into one of dire emergency. It could very well be that the 'terrorist' Revolutionary Guard are trying to provoke some sort of attack, I don't know. But I doubt even Ahmadinejad is crazy enough to be this bold, though he does thrive on our belligerence.

Rattle the "war chain"

remind everyone that the world is a dangerous place! This mentality really works. Notice how two war hawks are being positioned well in the primaries.........namely McCain. Look at all the endorsments being handed to him. What has he done? Nothing.......this is beltway pressure. If you don't think we could do worse than George Bush, think again, think McCain, Huckabee, Rudy........all these will sell out big time to the globalist who use our military as their tool for action. I think Ron Paul is doing just fine, gliding under the radar, while the media top guns bleed each other. Ron's in it for the long haul, and his positions are constant. Eventually, he's going to have his day in the sun as Mitt drops out, then Rudy, then Huckabee, and everyone else will have flipped over so many times. I hope the campaign staff is making some good documentaries along the way........we can surely use them later on.

Vote RON PAUL 2008
_____________
This would be completely in agreement with the idiotic neo-con PNAC 'think tank' plans as adopted by the GWB administration //

All part of the Axis of Evil he told us about at the outset.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/1796034.stm

And part of that sick twisted idiotic 'plan' pertains to preemptive attacks (to be made by us -- the USA -- a first strike -- as was used in Afghanistan and Iraq) //

-- Shoot first, ask questions later mentality.

Remember, folks, Iraq had neither the will nor the means to attack us (and they certainly had 'nothing' to do with 9/11 -- as per GWB in a news breaking statement he made later) // but that didn't matter -- did it.

Sure wish RON PAUL (as much as I respect the man) would start talking about supporting impeachment proceedings against GWB and his goon 'dick'CHENEY // That would sure put a big MONKEY WRENCH in the PNAC driven plan this Administration was quick to adopt and preclude such possibility as this thread suggest.

Vote RON PAUL 2008

No conspiracy theories necessary, the truth is more powerful

This is nothing more than the continuation of the blowback explained to us by Ron Paul. Our presence in the region is unjustified and unnecessary. Because of past meddling and current words from the White House, the Iranians feel threatened. So five fastboats dart out and around some US Navy ships near the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to rattle their sabres. No attack, no shots fired. But our continued presence in the region in defense of Corporate Oil is an ongoing thorn in their side. They feel threatened. They see us as the provokers. Let's pack up, come home and reestablish more normalized trade relations with them. If we change our actions and attitude toward them, I really believe that they will change theirs toward us. I'm an Air Force vet who travelled to Iran frequently in years past. The people were gracious and friendly then, and loved all things American (they would have paid primo cash for my Levi jeans... LOL!). Dr. Paul is right! Let's end these thoughts of American Empire in the name of corporate greed. Bring our sons and daughters home. Make friends. It all sounds so simple... because it is.

Well put!

I share your interpretation of this 'incident'. They will eventually normalize relations with us under a Paul presidency, but even then I think they will be justified in any trepidation they might exhibit. Bush and his administration have really damaged what little trust might have existed between the two nations in the immediate after-math of the attacks of September 11, 2001. Iran made an unprecedented offer of assistance, to which we (Bush) responded with the 'Axis of Evil' speech which included Iran. All bets were off after that. Dr. Paul is our only hope for normalized relations with Iran in our lifetimes.

Bush and cronies are playing a joke on us!

This "international incident" with Iran is a joke. I believe this kind of stuff happens all the time between countries and means nothing. Hey, this happened on Saturday and we're only hearing about it now???

Maybe it's because Dr. Paul's Rasmussen poll number in NH this morning (at www.presidentpolls.com) is at 11%, above both Rudy and Fred (of course) and closing in on Huckabee. After all, Dr. Paul publicly states that Iran is no threat to us, and he said it again at Saturday's debate.

That this "news" is only being reported now only means that the powers that be are concerned that people see that Dr. Paul's views are rational and make perfect sense.

No war with Iran anytime soon---it would be too messy for McCain/Romney/etc. to deal with right now...

Basiltaco

Your link is not a poll site...

it is some kind of search site. Please repost correct link.

the link

It's www.presidentpolls2008.com. Sorry!

Basiltaco

You have to ask yourself...

Why would this be reported less than a day before the NH voters go to the polls?

The answer... it can only help push those who are undecided toward McCain.

And in turn hurt Dr. Paul.

Exactly

this only serves one purpose. Improve McCains numbers tomorrow.

It (the news) truely looks massaged to give us the message that we should be afraid very afraid of the bad people over there, see they are threatening us and we need a strong leader like McCain please.

Also did you see the home breakin story that is also getting tons of coverage on Headline News? The one guy beaking in the door had on a headscarf just like the one Saudi's wear. I could not help but speculate that everything on the news today was to imprint that we need someone to defend us from the these people over there and over hear.

just coincidence? hmm doubt it.

don't you see this coinciding with Bush's visit

and his renewed efforts for the security of Israel...screw them and think about us for a moment...what is going to happen to the oil prices?.....Sorry but I am pissed....Please now I am begging lets get Ron Paul to the white house or we cant get out of this mess......

sick sick sick of it all

"I am coming at you. You will explode in a couple of minutes," cnn reporting....
"harassment" /"threatening"....
with so many US aircraft carriers with tomahawk missiles...of the waters of Iran uh i mean "international water".....they dare do such a thing....

I just laugh at the media and the people of America.... the people who are in fear of useless crap when they should be in fear of the tyranny at home....the debt/civil liberties/taxes/economy/healthcare.... and the people are afraid of some measly boats more than half way across the world ...who are being intimidated by us for reasons that do not even concern us but our "ally"....

I am sick of this all ...this nation has become a joke and doesn't deserve a man like Ron Paul who is ridiculed and made fun of on National TV ie if he can get on....who can't tell a liar (huckabee/mccain/romney) from the truth(ron paul) ....who like being proded tazed and protected by a police state and a spoon feeding media.....sick sick sick....

If I am to fail in my efforts (God forbid) for Ron Paul I am moving out....

Canned, Package Crap

More garbage. Supposedly happen on Saturday report on Monday? Gimmie a goddamn break please!!!!!!!

Oh and the Gulf of Tonkin never actually occurred.

Find out how "entangling alliances" interfered with the rights, and honor, of these U.S. Navy sailors from the USS Liberty www.ussliberty.org

My mind is spinning right now..

Just a hunch. I am thinking this is staged as a precursor to an impending attack. I pray to God that its just as they say it is. And that I'm wrong about it.

History shows

History shows that many "first attacks" against the U.S. were very much provoked, sometimes by simply being where they're not supposed to be. The Gulf of Tonkin incident and the U.S.S. Maine (Spanish-American War) happened when the U.S. entered decidedly non-neutral territory and then played "woe is me" when they were attacked. I haven't seen anything besides this post about the alleged Iran incident, but since they have a relatively small navy, I doubt they would want to make a first strike against the U.S.

Iranian navy

I agree with your analysis. I would like to add that there was a story recently (November 28, 2007) on Ria Novosti which touted a new Iranian submarine with stealth capabilities (http://en.rian.ru/world/20071128/89970209.html). I'm sure it was a good propaganda piece, but it doesn't hurt to take this information into account when considering the timing of this 'incident'.

Also, this story was run which relates that Iran has no intention of normalizing relations with the USA until it is "relevant"...

Charts (maps) don't lie...

Please leave the determination of positions and territorial waters to the professionals. Do not trust any map (or nautical chart, in this case) unless it is very, very current and you have multiple sources. Territorial/International waters are not so obvious when you are surrounded by water. I am an oceanographer with 11 years experience in many 'contested' waters. I have been on two vessels which were boarded by angry fishermen. This sort of harassment is not uncommon, especially when fishermen suspect you have fouled their fishing gear or you might be in their territorial waters. The incident happened on Saturday and news is only now hitting the wires. This is not an international incident yet. It could have been a flotilla of angry fishermen as far as we know.

I find it rather

interesting that this is getting reported the day before the NH primaries.

Crazy neocons

Explain to me why Iran would create this incident now. Ron Paul has exposed the neocon traitors here in America. NH is about to vote. So Iran plays chicken with the American navy? Please. History will judge these American neocons for the insane killers they are. Gob Bless America. Ron Paul 2008

The great part about this

The great part about this pumped up bit of "nothing" news, is that they will try to attack RP about his stance for peace, and with normal folks, I'd be worried, but with Dr. kick-ass-take-names Paul, I just look at it as another chance to get more media exposure.

Old media, you lose!
