The Engine of WarSubmitted by Ranger_Will on Tue, 03/27/2012 - 23:16
Every year on March 15 the Guilford Battleground Company puts on a reenactment of the battle of Guilford Courthouse. This battle in which Gen. Nathaniel Greene faced a British army led by Liet. Gen. Charles Cornwallis, was one of the most intense of the war with nearly unparalleled and gruesome hand-to-hand combat.
As the re-enactment takes place, an onlooker provides his views on why people come to watch 'shows' that relive such terrible events, while weighing in on current US policy towards war in general.
A very quick and potent lesson on the reality of war and how it is remembered.
