Please Help Me!

Hi you guys, I am new to posting here. I am a junior in high school and I am writing a persuasive speech for Ron Paul for my Debate class, which will be presented to another class. I want to make an awesome speech that everyone will enjoy, but I am worried that my speech will fizzle in the middle when I begin to discuss his policies. Do you guys have any ideas on how to make it informative, yet entertaining so I can get more seniors to vote and others to join the movement?

Please Help Me Out You Guys!

Target your audience

Someone on here mentioned that many students are apathetic. for the most part, they tend to care more about their Kardashians, Paris Hilton's, and Jersey Shore's.

I'll tell you what they WILL care about. Start by asking them if they believe that America is the land of the free and what rights and freedoms they think they have (or had). **ASK them how they would feel if they could no longer access their favorite websites (SOPA/PIPA/ACTA)?

"Preventive Detention" is like "Preventive War", we attack a country simply because they MIGHT attack us. NDAA will lock someone up indefinitely for a terrorist act they WILL PROBABLY commit. **ASK your classmates how they would feel if a family member, say a parent or older brother was SIMPLY SUSPECTED (they SUSPECT that you are a terrorist and SUSPECT you WILL act - think the movie "Minority Report") of being a terrorist or having terrorist ties by the government. Let them know (because they won't know - probably including your teacher) that they could be put away INDEFINITELY (probably killed), WITHOUT A TRIAL OR ACCESS TO A LAWYER (they will have no rights whatsoever). If you happened to be a thorn in the side of the government (for whatever reason), they could now simply suspect you and put you away.

For those that think there's no way that THEY could ever in a million years possibly be suspected of terrorism:

Even the Missouri Highway Patrol recently had an inside memo to be on the lookout for possible militia (considered terrorists) members. They would be easy to spot - Ron Paul, or Liberty bumper stickers, even displaying too many U.S. flags (no longer patriotic I guess)! It has since been rescinded ONLY because the LT. Governor took action.

Any classmates have family in the military? Point out that on DAY ONE, Ron Paul will bring the troops home. For those that don't have family in the military, **ASK them if they support the troops. If they do, let them know that they would like to be supported by them supporting Ron Paul. He gets 87% of military donations vs the other candidates COMBINED. Point out the differences between isolationism and non-interventionism and the fact that Ron Paul is NOT an isolationist. Point out the fact that an ex-NATO Supreme Allied Commander, an ex-CIA chief, an ex-CIA BLACK OPS chief, an ex-Army INTELLIGENCE COMMANDER, a Luietenant-Colonel with the center for ADVANCED DEFENSE STUDIES, an ex-Army Ranger Captain, West Point graduate, and Stanford MBA, an ex-Navy Seal, not to mention COUNTLESS of UNITED STATES TROOPS support Dr. Paul's foreign policy and why do they think that is. Tell them that we shouldn't have to sacrifice our young American lives, just to police the world, or to make politicians rich, but ONLY to defend our country.

**ASK them if they think they have the right to protest in a publc place.

Obama already signed this law in to effect and it's a FELONY (at least a year in prison). How is a citizen supposed to know if the "secret" service is present?

Lastly, you didn't mention what demographic you were in (inner city/poor neighborhood). If you have some classmates that have family in prison, let them know that Ron Paul will pardon all NON-VIOLENT drug offenders and release them from jail. If this is not your demographic - skip this.

At the end of your essay, **ASK if they knew about all the rights they had lost? Tell them why. Inform them that all the news networks and papers are owned by the same people and you are only shown what they want you to know, while omitting many truths. Point out the fact that Ron Paul has been ignored by the media and that he is actually in second place on the delegate count, which is what matters to secure the Republican nomination. When polled against the other candidates, Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate that beats Obama in a head-to-head race.

Let them know that if we continue in the Middle East or attack Iran, more than likely, the military draft will be implemented. And while they go off to fight and possibly die, probably none of the politicians' kids will go.

Predictions that no one listened to:

and he may not be cool (actually he is):

Hope this helped. GOOD LUCK and let us know how it went!

PS. - Forgot to mention that Ron Paul will eliminate taxes and eliminate the taxes on tips. This will be important to many of them who will work for tips.

Well, I'm moving 'home' -working toward that end

And yesterday, ran into old dear friend of mine in store - and conversation quickly turned to 'politics'. I said I was working - hard - for a Candidate I 'core' support, and she asked who that was... And I said, "Well, he's NOT for SALE." And she immediately said, "You're for RON PAUL!!!"

And so, might to fun to see if anyone can 'guess' by that simple clue... one so vital/urgent for this Republic.

RP Speech

First establish credibility. Who are you and why should they listen? What's in it for them?

Next use Judge Napolitano's "What if" approach. Go to lewrockwell.com and look up every Judge Napolitano article that uses this narrative. Read every article and every "What if" question. Pick 3 - 7 questions from these articles that will most resonate with your audience.

Recite the questions deliberately and let them sink in. After each question has sunk in explain how RP's position would address the question and also contrast with the position of the others.

Close with your own "what if question" e.g., what if we could elect a man.....

Good for you! Please use any of the material I am sharing.

The KEY here...is to
(1) Know your audience (as some other posters have written )
(2) Let there be a logical flow and profound meaning (and not spin or demagoguery) in your words
(3) Be concise and edit edit edit. Practice before people who you respect and will be objective.
(4) Take your time in your delivery
(5) Use dynamics and crescendo and punctuations in your speaking.

Here is the first of one or two that I will send you. They are far from perfect. But use anything as you please for your speech.

For people who deride Dr. Paul as dangerous:

Yes. Dangerous…to the Republican and Democratic Establishments.

Dangerous…to all of the special interest empires such as the Military Industrial Complex, the Prison Industrial Complex, the Food, Agricultural & Chemical Complex, Medical & Entitlement Complex, the Financial Complex, Big Labor, Big Pharma, etc.

Dangerous…to things like Socialism, Fascism, Corporatism, the NDAA, the PATRIOT Act, the new HR 347 Act that makes free speech a felony, the UN Gun Control measures, Agenda 21, etc.

Dangerous…to unconstitutional government constructs, such as the Departments of Education, Commerce, Energy, and Housing & Urban Development, and that little 100-year old ponzi scheme called the Federal Reserve.

He is so very dangerous…that he has never accepted a penny from lobbyists…and lobbyists routinely ignore him because, as Jack Abramoff says “they know he can’t be bought.”

He is so very, VERY dangerous…that he wants to stop wasting billions of taxpayer money in foreign countries, bring the troops home to defend THIS country, and so very very dangerous...that he is the overwhelming choice of the troops, where they donate to his campaign more than ALL the other candidates combined, including Obama.

Yeah, a 76-year old OB-GYN who has delivered over 4,000 babies, who has written many books on dangerous things like liberty, life and private property and defending the constitution, been married and faithful to the same woman for 55 years, and who has rarely ever had to change his position on anything while in Congress because for the most part, he had it all right the first time…

Yeah, he’s dangerous all right!

Time to INVESTIGATE the investigators of 9/11. PROSECUTE the prosecutors. EXPOSE the cover-up.

Use good illustrations

Use good illustrations and make your points short enough but memorable. Ask ggod rhetorical questions

Here are a few I have used to help people understand some of Ron's position.

Foreign Policy is easy -
Ask what happened after pearl harbor? 1000,000 men enlisted i.e. in a time of war people rally behind their country.
Ask what happened after 9/11 - (check the stats) 10,000's of thousands enlisted. Why? Because when attack people rally behind their flag and country.
Ask What we we do if invaded by China, they dropped bombs on us etc etc
We would resist
THE POINT - That happens when we attack other countries also. They hate us cos we are their and we attack them.

Monetary policy.
Ask 'What regulates the value of something?'
Example How valuable is a bucket of snow in the Arctic? Zero - it is in huge supply and no demand.
How much is that same bucket of snow/water worth in the sahara desert? Very valuable - supply and demand.

What regulates the value of our currency ? The amount that is in circulation. When you create money out of no where it devalues every other dollar. Gold and silver is limited supply therefore value is maintained.

Use Ron's illustration of cell phones/computers.
When cell phones first cam out - simple but expensive but a huge market was there. More people got into the business of creating cell phones. Competition meant better products. Competition means cheaper prices.
Ron Asks - What would happen if the government became the sole provider of cellphones??? Prices would go up (Because of Monopoly) Quality would go down (no competition)

This applies to Health care, education , Insurance etc etc etc

I have had good response from people when explaining his policies with very simple examples.

Hope it goes well for you

Blessed are the peacemakers

I would advise you to have fun with it.

Sometimes just explaining your experience is the best way. It becomes more personable.

foreign policy:he argues that

foreign policy:he argues that the constitution, the law of the land, doesnt give us the authority to police the world by going to endless war without a congressional declaration, and the troops come guard our own borders and spend their paychecks here., and then break it down, asking whats wrong with each one of those. just an idea.

or you could mention how they are worried about feeding teh bears will make them dependent on people giving them handouts, then contrast that with teh record numbers of food stamps currently and how Ron says that govt creates dependency the same way, thus Govt needs to get out of the business of taking care of us, thats why he says we need to take care of ourselves (if they ask about the needy then churches, county and state programs can fund that stuff, not teh federal govt.

Hello there speech and debate college student at your service

When I am trying to convince a group of people for paul, I first look at what type of audience. Are they liberal? Are they more conservative? Thats how you make your arguments. I keep to the best thing paul has in his bag, his economic policies and his foreign policy (this depends on group). Do an appeal to logos and ethos. I love mixing in the facts with some heartstrings. If you would like I'd be willing to skype with you and help you out. I give speeches a lot actually and can offer some good input for you :)

Tell them that by eliminating the income tax it will radically

boost the economy. The video on this is online (Judge Napitalano; Wall street Journal says RP's plan will boost economy) Be enthusiastic. Enthusiasm is Greek for "Spirit of God."

Use enthusiasm and excitement to chase away fear.

Remind them the power of all those dollars, now in the peoples' hands, spending and boosting the economy like mad, not the least of which is also the savings from stopping all that senseless foreign aid!!

It will go right here to create job, build bridges, and roads, and tons more!!

Have fun. That's the main thing. Oh, everyone is nervous the first time. But just get into it. A half hour study at any library makes you an expert on any subject. You are the RP expert. Let em have it!!

Hey GL!

Welcome! Feel free to use any of my arguments here:

I just found out yesterday that this post of mine is in the top 10 bookmarked posts on the DP! I was stoked! Hope it helps you!

Good luck!

I'm a serial entrepreneur and liberty activist from Texas!

Sell the "sizzle"...not the steak

If they don't know who your speech is about...start out with them guessing and giving "hints".
Who is the only person to knock the ball out of the park during the republican ballgame? Who is the only 12 term congressman who never voted for a tax increase etc.
It's very easy for me to understand that a debt was created that I'm responsible for and the money given to banks & "wallstreeters"...I don't like the fact that Mitt & O'Bomb'a supported this...also if they have hearts you could visualize over a million dead Iraqis because of WMD's that they didn't have and the lack of contrast of war with Iran because of a bomb they don't have...watch the American Dream Film (edited version) on Youtube for some ideas.
Knock'em dead! Saving your country is fun! also you might ask folks here for ideas of famous quotes that you could display behind you.

*Wisconsin Constitution* Article I, Section 25 "The people have the right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other law-abiding purpose"

Start with this joke:

Santorum, Romney and Dr Paul were backpacking in the woods and came across an angry bear. Dr paul immediately took off his backpack and started to run in the opposite direction. Santorum and Romney cried: `You can`t outrun a bear`. Dr Paul yelled back: I don`t have to, I just have to outrun you guys!!

The moral of the story: Don`t get weighed down with baggage when you`re running. (for office)

You can't get clean in a dirty bathtub.

This is how it is done...

Here are some content ideas

Here are some content ideas for you:

The Constitution is our nation's highest law. It's the law by which all other laws of all levels in our nation must comply. It's quite easy to understand. The Constitution is a list of what the federal government is authorized to do on behalf of The People with all else forbidden to it. Anything beyond that authorization is a right of the States or of The People as detailed in Amendments 9 & 10. The Constitution is the law that every politician, police officer, judge and member of our military swear to obey, uphold and defend.

A big problem we have in our country is the fact that while the politicians expect that the rest of us obey every single law that they write, no matter how menial, at the same time they are violating their sworn oaths of office to our Constitution on a regular basis. They vote in favor of unconstitutional laws all the time. They treat our Constitution as if it were a doormat.

It's time that we learn more about the Constitution so that we can tell the difference between politicians who abide by their sworn oaths of office and those who don't.

Representative Ron Paul just happens to be one of the very few politicians in Washington DC who truly takes his oath of office to our Constitution seriously. In every vote the House of Representatives takes you can count on knowing that Dr. Ron Paul will vote alongside the Constitution every single time. As he and all other politicians sworn to it should.

Anyhow, that's how I would work it. I would lead with the Constitution, what it is, why it's important, who makes sworn oaths to it. Then I would turn that table to point out and describe how Ron Paul is one of the few in Congress who actually abides by his sworn oath. Show how Ron Paul has a proven decades long track record of doing so. Talk about how Dr. Paul predicted so many things years in advance. After that I would finish up with maybe a few examples of a runaway government and how we would all be better off if all politicians followed true to their oaths of office as Ron Paul does.

1. To connect with your

1. To connect with your audience, speak from your heart, be honest, be humble and be bold.
2. Pick one or two issues, such as War and Debt, explain why you think these issues are important, and do not hide emotions, hand gestures, etc.
3. Write the structure of your speech on a note-card (Prompts). (If you are confident consider not reading or memorizing your speech, which will greatly help you to connect with your audience.)
4. Example of a speech outline if I were writing my speech:
- Introduce this election as an important election and Ron Paul as a serious candidate
- Thesis (e.g. "I suggest that the two most important issues of this election are War and Debt and returning to the Constitution solves these problems")
- Discuss issue 1: ("I think that War is immoral (Just war theory), unconstitutional (unless endorsed by the people and declared by the Congress, Article 1 section 8), and economically unsustainable (Significant contributor to a growing national debt))
- Discuss issue 2.:("Secondly, the national debt has grown by 10 trillion since president G.W. Bush took office. 2012 marks the first year that our national debt, now 16 trillion dollars, exceeds our gross domestic product. The Federal Reserve is unconstitutional (no authority for central bank or counterfeiting)
- Explain how Ron Paul's policies of non-interventionism and repealing the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 (national debt began accumulating in 1913) address these problems
- Conclusion can affirm your thesis. Suggest that Ron Paul's policies are Constitutional and solve the war and debt issues whereas you do not think the other candidates have Constitutional plans or are even addressing these two most important issues, at least not directly.
6. Practice in front of family (without reading or memorizing if you can. If you are allowed Power-point then less is more. Perhaps only your thesis can be a sentence because you do not want your audience to be distracted by Power-point.)
7. Be open for questions and answer them honestly and humbly.
7. Have fun

Don't treat them like

Don't treat them like idiots.

I would focus on all the problems of today and how not following the constitution is the cause of those problems.

Your goal should be too indict both major parties and present Ron Paulism as the way out of the mess.

Good luck.

Watch Ron Pauls "What If" speech.

Ask lots of leading questions that people already know the logical answer to.

Yeah the other one is better since it asks questions that have you to think about what is actually occurring to us in this country. And it is the original way Ron Paul Made it. It is also in a form most useful for a speech.

The one I posted lets you see what we are doing to another country from our point of view and the speakers voice merges into Ron Pauls words at the end, to show he is the guy who is actually doing something in congress. Its better for watching only on youtube, because of the graphics and sensationalism the speaker creates in telling the story...

Use illustrations

Use your hands as props and switch voices to turn policy explanations into debates or "simulation examples".

Tell stories.

+ Follow the Cooperative principle
+ Civility first
+ Constructive comments

Using music and visuals

as I stated earlier but if I were addressing young people in high school - I would make it personal to them.
Show how the war is going to affect them (possible draft?) - How much money THEY are going to owe economically- Graphs, money clock, etc.
How government involvement raises the cost of THEIR college tuition....and how America has lost in education field since federal department of education
How much they will need to earn in the future to break even in as prices rise...
Freedoms THEY are going to lose/have lost that others had in earlier years...( most bizarre police state/TSA stories)
Prisons and drug wars on minorities...
Just present ideas from a "personal" identification perspective.

Best suggestions so far. No offense to the others. Yes, you have to keep personal for them or even the best info wont resonate. Try to use as many visuals as possible or people will drift. Show how silly the other candidates look too. Kids are already cynical about politics, so show them what bufoons the other candidates are

Be specific about the policies you're talking about and add a little bit of humor to it

Preparation through education is less costly than learning through tragedy

Wow! It's the policies that are exciting!

Here's what I would do, personally:

1) Start off explaining that the national debt is near $16 trillion and how it breaks down to $138,000 per person.

Explain how it will relate to lower of standards of living for the next generations. Then explain how the federal government spends more than it brings in every year and ask how it can continue to operate. It is through taxing, then borrowing and finally printing money that it can pay its bills. This leads to...

2) How the US funds the welfare/warfare state. It is only through borrowing and printing that the government can keep its doors open. Which leads to...

3) Dr. Paul's desire to end the Fed. It is only the existence of the Fed that allows the government to continually spend more than it brings in. Creating money out of thin air is counterfeiting, a crime that any other citizen would find himself in jail for. Which leads to...

4) US involvement in undeclared, unconstitutional wars. Funding these wars only happens with money printing, but wars cause incredible, unnecessary suffering, not only in the countries being attacked, but in the bankruptcy of the United States. We will soon be unable to help our own people with medical and other aid that the social programs were designed to address. Dr. Paul's proposed cut of $1 trillion to the federal budget in 1 year, would cut much of the overseas spending and attempt to rescue some of the entitlement programs that people have become dependent on, until some of them could be phased out for the sake of liberty. Which leads to....

5) Civil liberties are being violated as a result of the economic problems. Dr. Paul is appalled by the Patriot Act, the NDAA, the president's ability to assassinate US citizens and other domestic spying operations that are an affront to a free society. He would repeal the Patriot Act and other egregious legislation.

6) Dr. Paul believes in the restoration of the Constitution, a document that serves as the guideline in the creation of a free society. Without freedom, what does anyone have?

Those are my 6 cents...there's more...but maybe others can chip in

2 Chron 7:13-14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Polices are exciting

Let me just start with saying that I am a sophomore in high school. But I would just say to make sure that you mention his peaceful foreign policy. Peace is always an important issue for young people.
