Daily Proverb

Updated November 1, 2012: Some of us have worked thru the book of Proverbs during the Month of October. I desire to continue in November on the topic of Thankfulness. I need to be content in all things and daily offerings on thankfulness will no doubt be a blessing to me and maybe others. The concept of thankfulness is liberating when negativity is cast aside. Please feel free to journey along and contribute as you are inspired.
I have been challenged to read 1 chapter in Proverbs each day. As I read Chapter 29, I found a verse that speaks profoundly of Ron Paul's character and a statement of why our country is in the situation it is in:

Verse 4: "The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it."

Of course we do not have a king, but the principle is the same. Those that cozy up with special interests ruin a country.

Thank you Ron Paul, for not entertaining lobbyists!
Najam has asked me to keep this post alive so I am attempting to do that. Join in if you like.
2 Corinthians 13:11
Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Hi, bear

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts. The town where I'm currently living is on the Hudson. That morning when I decided to leave until the storm was over, I hastily ran around and got things off the floor just in case. (Just my luck I'd begun a major refiling project, going through years' worth of papers to get rid of a lot, so my living room had cartons, folders, and stacks all over. It all ended up willy nilly on the tops of any furniture where there was space. It'll be back to Square One.) As it turned out, while the basement flooded, the surge of water never reached floor level... though it came awfully close, within inches. (Others weren't so lucky.) There are three marinas on my stretch of road; the boats were pulled from moorings or lifted off dry dock and deposited all over. One hit the house and there are no longer stairs up to the deck, and it tore off siding, but it narrowly missed the living room window. So, really, I was very fortunate. A neighbor ran an extension cord through the kitchen window, enough to power a small space heater and a lamp. So I've been camped out in my little kitchen. I'll be very happy to have power restored. But seeing as what could have happened, I'm very grateful, bear.

Oh my, you have alot of work

Oh my, you have alot of work cut out for you! It is wonderful that the water stayed in the basement. I imagine that is a mess enough! I can hardly even think about it! I am glad you have a good neighbor to lend you some electricity! Camping in the kitchen! I am glad you are OK and the majority of your house spared. It is all so hard to fathom.

Thanks, bear

Actually, someone else is responsible for the basement, and it certainly was a mess, but basically cleaned out now. It was a long process. It needs to be power washed, and new appliances still need to be installed ~ here and elsewhere, as utility areas were submerged. Yes, that little space heater is my new best friend. :) Thank you so much for that lovely song. It's just what I needed this morning.

I am glad you have a space

I am glad you have a space heater! I was hoping you would enjoy the song. Glad you weren't in charge of the basement! It is a bright sunny day here. I am hoping that for you as well.

How Great Thou Art!

Each day as I read my Bible, I always begin reading these wonderful verses to keep my mind in perspective of just who it is, that is always in control of everything!

(Notice the word "all")

1 Chronicles 29:11-13

"Thine, O LORD is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name."

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

What a Treasure!

Thank you Holbrook for sharing this passage. Truly it sets the day. I feel as if I have been given a treasure, and indeed I have. A filter to see the world thru in this time of uncertainty. A passage to memorize. Nourishment to my soul.

Pre-Occupied vrs Thankful.

+1, thanks again for the regular posting on Thankfulness. I was reading a longish post on another DP thread and my thoughts came to this page.

One may wonder what is keeping man from thankfulness. There are different causes & distractions, where the mind is pre-occupied, = is only concerned with immediate needs, & search for its fulfillment. Some are busy - , some do not believe, some do not pray, some pray only for wants, asking & seeking, some pray with praise & Thanks.

Those who are unfortunately stuck with demands e.g. taxes, interest, rents, food & fuel bills, etc., feel (have?) lesser reasons to give thanks. They canNot afford to give in charity, are needy themselves. If they pray - its for needs.

What is required is to free mankind from the debt-trap, now we realize more the wisdom in the saying = ""The Truth shall set you free"".

pls breeze thru the DP post =

Who Uses the Cares of this World to Distract?

I left a comment here: http://www.dailypaul.com/comment/2830603

and have just now thought of this Scripture:

Ephesians 6:12 KJV
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

re Darkness & Light.

+1, you answered the question in the title of your post with an appropriate verse. No doubt, the rulers of darkness. Therefore there is more need for Light, = so ordinary folks find the Safe-Way.

Darkness means absence of Light, light is = True Knowledge, Knowledge of authentic & inspired Scripture. In this way "Let there be Light" could mean "Let Truth be spoken". Therefore the need for the "Daily Bread" (Word & reminders) canNot be over-emphasized.
Eph 6:12 reminds of the same, like speaking truth to power. Thanks.

You made me think of Creation

This picture of creation came to mind.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.

The first thing God did after creating the heavens and the earth was to create light and then divide the light from the darkness.

When thinking of spiritual darkness it seems interesting that darkness is over taking the face of the earth once again...spiritual darkness.

But there will be a day

Revelation 21:23 KJV
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

when there will be no place for darkness where the Lamb is!

the Furnace, in Rev.

you wrote ""darkness is over taking the face of the earth"".
In allegorical terms we can say the smoke spouted out of the pyramid and billowing is blocking the light, casting this huge unhealthy shadow. The pyramid (furnace, with fire in the middle) is printed on the $1 note, - circulates globally.
In Revelation is mention of "the mark", that money for buying & selling, a large furnace, etc. Also to buy gold to become rich.

Allegory. I could not think of that word yesterday.

I do not understand what you are saying in this part of your writing: "Also to buy gold to become rich."

Concerning the dollar bill and the darkness that rings true with this passage that came to mind this morning:

1 Timothy 6:10 KJV
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The root of all evil is billowing darkness over the face of the earth.

Re Gold, Furnace, Smoke.

During my work with telex I got used to using short sentences, = sometimes the meaning is not clear. More words are needed for comments on allegory. Therefore, now copy-pasted full verse, not a portion - pls read context.

* Gold. Revelation 3:18 (KJV) 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

* Smoke of Furnace. Rev. 9:2. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit =
(Furnace = Pyr'amid, = fire in the middle).

* Air-power. 9:3&9 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. (helicopter with sting? missile)

Some years back I had read a commentary on Revelation, published by Jehovah Witnesses from their NY HQ. It was a 200 page book with red cover, inside there were illustrations and pictures & detailed explanations with corresponding verses. Very educative.

Thanks Najam.

Buying gold did not bring that passage to my mind. I am so glad you explained as I was pleasantly reminded of that wonderful passage of buying gold and white rainment. It lead me to think of Jesus's words:

Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break throughnor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

It was hard to stop my copy and past at verse 21! The passage goes on to talk about darkness and light; serving God and mammon; and taking no thought for today.

I had always understood the helicopter to represent the locusts. I did though have a Pastor at one time that taught that that the locuts were literal and not figurative; i.e. what is described is not man-made, but God-made. It is interesting to note that those locusts hurt only the people without the seal of God.

Rev 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

I find this intersting because their commander is Apollyon...it seems oposite than what I would think. I would think Apollyon would be attacking those with the seal of God. But we know that God can limit the power of Satan as he did in the case of Job.

There is much about Revelation and the end times that I do not understand. But I know who is worthy! The Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the earth. Praise God!

Samaria-Syria Today

I am thankful today for this verse as it reminded me that ancient Samaria where Jesus walked on his way to Galilee is now Syria.

My prayer is this verse is taken to heart by Christians and that we take a moment away from thinking about the destruction of our liberties in this country and think about the repercussions our actions and ignorance are having in the Middle East. Please take a moment to hear a voice from Syria pleading with President O'Bama (and Christians everywhere) to have mercy on this land where He walked...to be a good Samaritan to the people of Syria and not let this devastation continue.

Over the past year I have posted several times pleas from a Christian friend and minister from Syria who felt called to come to this country with Christian bibles in Middle Eastern languages for Muslims here. He felt that by providing these and working with Christian communities, he might bring the plight of Syria and Christians being persecuted there to the American people. He has handed out many bibles and ministered to his people; however, there has been little interest from Christian communities. I won't go into the hardships he has suffered while he receives news of friends and family dying and yet when I have expressed my horror at what we are doing, he only replies "God is good."

Thank you for listening. The man on this video says it much better than I can. Yesterday I was called naive and told nobody was interested in an educational campaign or a Chuck Baldwin for VP. It sent me into my hole . But today I am thankful for this thread where I can express my thoughts and strong feeling that until we can become educated about the crucifixions that are taking place in our names in the land where Jesus walked...the churches destroyed...the landmarks that are being wiped off the face of the earth and then act with empathy and solidarity, there will be no restoration of civility here. What good would a man of faith in our government do? It would be a godsend. I'm done. Thanks Bear for the verse. Pray for Syria as we pray for ourselves.
