Daily Proverb

Updated November 1, 2012: Some of us have worked thru the book of Proverbs during the Month of October. I desire to continue in November on the topic of Thankfulness. I need to be content in all things and daily offerings on thankfulness will no doubt be a blessing to me and maybe others. The concept of thankfulness is liberating when negativity is cast aside. Please feel free to journey along and contribute as you are inspired.

I have been challenged to read 1 chapter in Proverbs each day. As I read Chapter 29, I found a verse that speaks profoundly of Ron Paul's character and a statement of why our country is in the situation it is in:

Verse 4: "The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it."

Of course we do not have a king, but the principle is the same. Those that cozy up with special interests ruin a country.

Thank you Ron Paul, for not entertaining lobbyists!

2 Corinthians 13:11
Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

A Song for Sunday:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-4NFvI5U9w My Chains are Gone
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

My chains are gone, I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
[ From : http://www.elyrics.net/read/c/chris-tomlin-lyrics/amazing-grace-(My-chains-are-gone)-lyrics.html ]
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

My chains are gone, I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace

My chains are gone, I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God who called me here below
Will be forever mine, will be forever mine
You are forever mine

...

Amazing Grace

was written by a man who had run slave ships before he was converted to Christ. The tune is thought to be one that Newton heard the Africans singing in the midst of their misery, as it is based on an African musical scale.

I hadn't heard that before!

I had always heard that John Newton wrote the words, but that the music was actually a tavern song. I don't know. But the video attached is a new version and the pictures in the video are from the film that depicted the English emancipation of slaves. I can't remember the title, but it was about William Wilberforce and John Newton. John Newton has a wonderful testimony from the dregs of human existence to forgiveness by our Great Savior. There is a great parallel in John Newton's emancipation from the slave market of sin and that of the slaves he helped to emancipate later.

And truly we wait for a final emancipation from our flesh!

"Like a gold ring in a pig's snout

is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion." 11:22

Proverbs 31:30 KJV

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

"All a man's ways seem innocent to him,

but motives are weighed by the Lord." 16:2

Made me think

of verses 9 & 10 below, but I also enjoyed reading 7-8 as I looked them up.

Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Proverbs: Oct 25 - An Unfaithful Man

Proverbs 25:19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

Eph 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which areat Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Proverbs: Oct 24 - We Knew it Not

Proverbs 24:11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; 12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

Impressive quality in this thread

1:1The proverbs of Solomon son of Daviḏ, sovereign of Israel:
2For knowing wisdom and discipline, For understanding the words of understanding,
3For receiving the discipline of wisdom, righteousness, right-ruling, and straightness;
4For giving insight to the simple, Knowledge and discretion to the young.
5The wise one hears and increases learning, And the understanding one gets wise counsel,
6For understanding a proverb and a figure, The words of the wise and their riddles.
7The fear of YHUH is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and discipline.

.

Hear, O Israel: YHUH our God YHUH one. And thou shalt love YHUH thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Thank you for stopping in

Ephesians 1:3 KJV

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

Proverbs: Oct 23 - Where to Be

Proverbs 23:17 KJV Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

Audio Proverbs 23: http://www.biblestudytools.com/kjv/proverbs/23-audio.html

I listened to the proverb.

I especially appreciate this wisdom. "...and despise not thy mother when she is old." :)

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.
~ John Muir

My poor boys

are growing up with and old mother LOL. But really, it is probably a benefit to them to be a generation removed in their instruction LOL.

I remember when my oldest started school, the teacher asked me if I was coming for Grandparents Tea...I had to confess, I was his mother...LOL

I liked this verse from todays passage:

Proverbs 23:24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him

I do pray that my children will have hearts that love God.

Your lucky boys...

to have you as their mother.:) I also pray that for my children.

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.
~ John Muir

A never ending process

...for a Mother!

And fathers...both the one I

And fathers...both the one I am and the Father above who has to 'bear' with me as I learn to be like him.

Good morning !

Yes,

you are exactly correct! I should never have ended with the word Mother, because truly it is a joint effort. I was speaking to another mother from a mother's perspective.

But, I cannot say where my boys would be without their father. He is truly the delight of their hearts. I am the mamma who cleans and cares for them...and he is the father who provides and plays with them...teaching them to be men, like he. They are truly his delight and mine as I see the exchange...And thankfully, we are His.

Proverbs 3:12 KJV
For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth

Seeing that today is 10/22

I went to Proverbs 10:22

"The blessing of the LORD it maketh rich and He addeth no sorrow with it"

Praise the Lord!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

And today 10/23

Proverbs 10:23 KJV It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

Nice idea to go to month and day!

That describes...

Most of the threads here at the DP as you read them,Lol. How fitting! Good morning and thank you for the links the other day. For future reference you really do not have to go to that much "digital" trouble for me. Believe it or not I actually own a couple of the old "Analog" copies,Lol. keep them handy to debate my personal interpretations when needed. I have little trust in the interpretations of others, They can be used as tools of propaganda, Lol. Thanks again!

If I disappear from a discussion please forgive me. My 24-7 business requires me to split mid-sentence to serve them. I am not ducking out, I will be back later to catch up.
