Daily Proverb

Updated November 1, 2012: Some of us have worked thru the book of Proverbs during the Month of October. I desire to continue in November on the topic of Thankfulness. I need to be content in all things and daily offerings on thankfulness will no doubt be a blessing to me and maybe others. The concept of thankfulness is liberating when negativity is cast aside. Please feel free to journey along and contribute as you are inspired.
I have been challenged to read 1 chapter in Proverbs each day. As I read Chapter 29, I found a verse that speaks profoundly of Ron Paul's character and a statement of why our country is in the situation it is in:

Verse 4: "The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it."

Of course we do not have a king, but the principle is the same. Those that cozy up with special interests ruin a country.

Thank you Ron Paul, for not entertaining lobbyists!
Najam has asked me to keep this post alive so I am attempting to do that. Join in if you like.
2 Corinthians 13:11
Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Wealth Transfer Machine.

+1, thanks for the Proverb, throws light on the nature of relationship between the lender & borrower. It should not necessarily be like that. The problem is aggravated because of "Interest, called usury in older times.
With movement of time (clock) the borrower's wealth is gradually transferred to the lender. This trick-machine 'lives' in the Bank.

Such transactions are unjust, immoral, unethical & exploitative.

Proverbs: Oct 18 - A Strong Tower

Proverbs 18:10 KJV The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Crown of ~ ~ Wisdom.

+1, thanks. all Proverbs extend wisdom, this one radiates Light.
In another translation it is mentioned as =
"The name of the LORD is a Strong Fort:"
i.e. that fortifies, = mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger, or temptation courageously:
e.g. "Never once did her fortitude waver during that long illness".

If, I may offer or add to (not change) the meaning-s =
"The Name of The LORD is (like) a Light-House."
enLightens,= guides, shows = to avoid dangers, offers refuge, & +, etc.

May you find more strength, safety & Light.

Thank you Najam!

I love the imagery of the Wings of the Most High and the Strong Tower. In my mind when I run to the Strong Tower, it is tall and cylindrical, narrow and made of thick stone. I am safe there inside. Protected. My God is a Strong Tower, I am hiding in Him and nothing can get me!

I like the imagery you have added of a light house and a fort. I find, depending on my circumstances the need for different views in my mind's eye.

Thank You bear.I know this is not a Proverb verse but wanted to share with everyone. Was reading this morning and this verse sticks out so much right now.

Revelation 2:9
I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty,(but thou art rich)and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are NOT,but are the synagogue of Satan.

Thank you for the bump.

Your scripture has given me thought of some items I have run across in the past month. I do not know if I am accurate in my thinking, but here is what I have come to wonder about:

How about this one...as of late, I mean just in the past week, I have come to consider that perhaps the holocaust was a false flag. No, I do NOT mean that 6 million Jewish people were not horribly exterminated. What I mean is that it was allowed to happen, was pushed to happen, maybe even made to happen so that the Zionists would be granted Israel as a homeland.
Mind you, my whole life I have been supportive of Israel as a Born Again Christian.
I do not know if I am right, but it seems that some very devout looking Jewish people met with Ahmadinejad. I watched a video of that meeting here: http://www.dailypaul.com/256465/ahmadinejad-embraces-the-jew... and the Jewish men meeting with Ahmadinejad said something about their leaders being killed in the Holocaust leaving the Jewish people subject to following Zionism. That was an eye opener for me. That sent me on a investigative history hunt (probably a weak one, but one none the less). Those Jewish men in that video did the kissy kissy with Ahmadinejad and it all looked real and sincere. Maybe it was all a show? I don’t know but they also gave him a big silver bowl attributing his “sweetness.” I also looked at the website below that video http://www.jewsagainstzionism.com/ and saw more information regarding the sellout of the East European Jews by the Zionists:

Proverb 30:5

There are so many wonderful and instructional proverbs in the Bible, but this one speaks about the entire Bible as being the Word of God and being pure so it is probably my favorite.

"Every word of God is pure, He is a shield unto those who put their trust in Him" KJV

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Made me think of this

Ephesians 6:16 KJV
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Trust = Faith = a Shield of Protection...as long as trust and faith are in Him!

Before & After.

+1. Thanks for sharing Proverbs 30:5.

In the verse before is a question = "What is his name"? & after = 6
"Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."

The keepers & teachers of The Word have a special responsibility, = to preserve the original, authentic & true (meanings &) message. Extra care has to be taken when conveying in a different language, i.e. where translation is required. Names (proper nouns) are not translated.

Desiderata - by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

If Wars Can Be Started by Lies, They Can Be Stopped By Truth.

Very Pretty Words! The first

Very Pretty Words! The first line made me think of Psalm 46:10: Be still , and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."

Life can be too busy!

I am glad you enjoyed it,.

I felt a little worried about putting it on your post since it is not from the Bible and I am not a follower of any particular organized religion.

If Wars Can Be Started by Lies, They Can Be Stopped By Truth.

Much of your offering brought passages of Bible Scripture to my mind. Like 2nd sentence:

"As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons"

reminded me of

Romans 12:18 KJV "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men."

It was only a couple of sentences in the last portion that were not in line with Scripture:

"You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here."

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul."

The Bible teaches we are much more value than trees and stars as we are made in the very image of God and have an eternal soul. In the creation account God speaks creation into existence, but when He creates man He actually breaths the breath of life into man! The Bible also gives explanation of who God is, so there is no question of conception on a grand scale. However, that being said, God is so great and wonderful, awesome and powerful it is definitely difficult for man to conceive with his finite mind of exactly the magnificence of God. Another wonderful thing about God, when we know Him thru the Lord Jesus Christ, His spirit also takes resident in us. So then we contain the Treasure of God in our own earthen vessels!

So those are the only 2 portions when reading that did not embrace the teachings of the Bible. Otherwise, I believe I could give scripture references supporting the rest of Mr. Ehrmann’s beautiful prose.

Thank you for stopping in and sharing. The door is always open.

One word has been translated at least two ways into Greek.

"Theos" here and "Kyrios" in Matthew 22:44.

It is written- in Deuteronomy 8:3 and Psalm 110:1.

Nice thread, by the way.

Hi, the New Testament was written in Greek so I am not sure how a single word can be translated at least two ways into Greek. Can you ellaborate a bit more. I would like to understand. Thanks!

The Scriptures cited

are quotes of the Old Testament in the New Testament. By looking at the original Scripture you can see the word "YHUH" is translated "Theos" in some places and "Kyrios" in other places.
