North Dakota State Convention - March 30-April 1

Tomorrow, on March 30, the North Dakota State Convention will convene and continue through Sunday, April 1. This is the FIRST state convention and will be the first real test of our delegate strategy. Let's keep this thread up (or the admins can make an official one) and keep any news from the convention here.

Here is a complete schedule of events: http://www.northdakotagop.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/201...

The Green Papers currently has the delegate count, proportionally allocated, as the following:

Santorum: 11
Paul: 8
Romney: 7
Gingrich: 2

Anything above 8 is going to be good news. Best case scenario we get a majority of the delegates.

Update #1: I'm getting all my updates via Twitter, hashtag #NDGOPConvention

Update #2: Sounds like Romney took most of delegates, more than Paul or Santorum. Former ND State Chairman calls it a "railroad job". http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/video-former-ndgop-chairman...

Update #3: Doug Wead has a new post on his blog. "Ron Paul supporters need not despair, however, we have our own share of good news coming soon. And we will have won with Romney’s own rules." http://dougwead.wordpress.com/2012/03/31/romney-lawyers-rig-...

Is there more word on this?

From what I read, the GOP leaders just put only Romney delegate names on the ballots - so he got all the delegates. There's no way this was/will be allowed right?

What is the latest on the delegate count from ND? Is it final?

The reprinted ballot had the

The reprinted ballot had the "pre-nominated" mostly Romney people on front and all the floor nominations on back.

The ballot also had a checkbox to "select all" NDGOP nominated people and around half of the ballots just checked that box.

Honestly I bet 1/4 of the people had no idea there was a back side to the form.

How much more blatantly obvious could you rig a form?

I think its a done deal

I hope...

I hope that they are re-voting today then with ballots that include all of the delegates names. Can anyone update us on Sundays ND convention happenings?

Unrest over ND GOP national convention delegates

Why would Paul and Santorum delegates vote for an entire slate of Romney delegates. Were the 25 chosen delegates the only ones with their names printed on the ballots and everyone else had to be written in? I hope Santorum, Paul, and Gingrich state delegates for the other 49 states are watching this closely.
Let's at least pick up some of the alternate spots tomorrow. Please get some video if you are there.

The issue is that the 1,600+

The issue is that the 1,600+ district delegates did NOT get to vote for the national delegates. The entire 25 slate was nominated by the NDGOP without any delegate voting. Overwhelming majority of the 25 nominated by the NDGOP are Romney endorsers even though Romney took 3rd in the state.

This is currently what we are fighting. It looks as if we will have a new ballot later this afternoon.

please say it is the truth

i sincerely hope you are going to be able to get a new ballot voted on after the fact. how can the slate have already been voted on without the 1600 delegates not doing the voting? do you mean the delegates were supposed to be able to vote for whoever was to appear on the slate before voting for the slate (or individual delegates for that matter). If so, my prayers are with you-even though I don't really pray- and I will take back all the stuff I said about North Dakotans being pussies.

I pray you are right!

I am hoping you have inside knowledge. Please tell me this is not another April Fool's post!

This looks like an epic disaster to me.

Ron did well in ND and the GOP was still able to shut him out.
They even shut out Santorum.

What can be done to stop this from happening in the coming state conventions?

It seems that the national GOP is seeing to it that Romney gets 1144 because they know he won't win in a floor vote st the national convention.

what happened?

If Paul and Santorum had the majority, how did the establishment romney people control the convention??? Why was there not chaos like those patriots in Missouri??? Why are the delegates just laying down and getting walked all over. What the Hell?????????

I have word from my MN Contact...

that it seems the NDGOP has elected a full Romney slate of delegates and not one Ron Paul delegate. Any total confirmation on this?

Here's what he said.

Also, in North Dakota, they held their state convention. Through shenanegins of various sorts, they somehow sent a full slate of Romney delegates to the national convention. Not a single Paul delegate, strange since he had done as well as he did in ND. But I think the former chairman of NDGOP said it best when he commented that "The national delegate election was a railroad job!" "

shenanigans shmenanigans!

patriots need to start being heard. I can't believe it. at least put up a fight. If you've got the numbers, they shouldn't be able to get away with any shenanigan!!!! take the floor and seize the day.

made me think of this song

Were there any delegate slots awarded today?

is there any final result here yet?
From what I'm reading, it seems as if the delegate strategy fails at the state level.
Not just for Paul but Santorum as well.

Reopen delegate nominations and propose an alternative slate?

It seems to me that our goals in North Dakota should be to:

1. Gain a plurality of the delegates (so it can be one of the 5 states needed to nominate Dr. Paul in Tampa);

2. Minimize Gov. Romney's delegates (to keep him from getting to 1144).

From reading the accounts of the convention proceedings, it appears that Dr. Paul does not have an outright majority of the State Convention delegates. Paul + Santorum probably is a solid majority, however. Why not form a tactical alliance with Sen. Santorum's delegates (as we might also do in WA State)?

The State Convention doesn't wrap up until tomorrow. We should get with Sen. Santorum's people tonight and agree to a joint slate of delegates (for example: 13 Paul, 12 Santorum, 0 Romney - the important thing is that we have a plurality). Then, tomorrow, we should move to reopen the delegate nomination and attempt to replace the establishment slate with our slate. I do not live in North Dakota, and don't know the procedural specifics, but we should have the votes.

maybe hand them stuff about Romney and Paul and how Paul is all for freedom and Romney a liar that wants to take their money to stuff his buddys pants.(insert romney money in the mouth picture)
OR whatever they dont like about romney that we dont like too..

In this light a 50/50 slate should sound excellent for the Santorum supporters. Come Tampa they will realize that Santorum is a liar too.

Maybe comparison charts without Santorum?
Then after voting took place comparison charts with Santorum(?)

This DP issues them http://www.dailypaul.com/user/45523
Maybe when we ask politely sovereignjanice issues them(? :) ) so we then can hand out to santorum supporters before the Convention!

[check out the laws or rules at the convention/GOP)]

Thank You!

That was my first post, and your words are an encouragement. Thank you!

You cant' beat the establishment this way!

You can't win a game in which the playing field is owned by the person making the rules and they can make up their own rules and change them in the middle of the game to suit their own whims. If the others don't go along with what they want, they just withhold their ball and tell everyone else to go home.

I have been so excited hearing about how Paul has been picking up delegates at local caucuses. I love hearing about how "we are doing quite well" when it comes to picking up grassroots support and the establishment is going to be suprised to see how much success the Paul campaign will have at state conventions. I could barely sleep last night waiting to see how things would turn out in ND today. But, what is happening today at the North Dakota convention is just a precurser of what lies ahead. The establishment controls the game and all the talk of becoming the establishment may be a good long term strategy, but isn't gonna help in this election cycle.

I am a fervant proponent of liberty. I speak to anyone that will listen about the corporate sponsored gov't. and how both parties have the same agenda - just a different way of convincing people they are on their side. I must admit that I did register republican back in the mid 80's when I first came of age and was allowed to vote, but I have been independent since then and almost always vote straight libertarian or abstain. I live in California, and have filled out the paperwork to register republican this year just so I could vote for Paul in the primary, but am afraid that there will be no resolution to the usurpation of our liberties in this election cycle.

The only hope is for Paul to run 3rd party or for enough people to write him in. People writing him in won't work though. Even if Paul got enough write in votes, how can one expect that those counting the vote are gonna - all the sudden - become honest and count the vote for an anti-establishment write in candidate?

The only way to win within the two party system is to do what the people in Nevada did and take over the party, but it's too late to do that in this cycle.

I wish there were more I could do. I wanna be part of a revolution to restore my rights and the rights of generations to come. The problem is that too many people are content with the system and willing to give up liberty for "security" and "personal comfort". I am so sad for our country and all the patriots that understand the predicament we are in. I am so sad.

..the anticipation is killing me.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

from what I've heard, if the current slate goes through as is then Paul will only get 2 delegates. What can be done?

I cannot believe that Romney took the majority because they only wanted "experienced" GOP people. I am so angry right now my blood is boiling!

My first Ron Paul video, it has had a great response!

I don't get it...

...who gives a crap what "they" wanted? Am I to understand that the people running the caucus just announced "hey guys, these are the delegates, don't like it? Too bad." And that was it? Or did Romney people actually have enough votes to push through their slate?

In other words, have we been cheated or have we been beaten fair and square?

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

Beating us at our own game

If Romney came in third in the caucus and won 20 of the 25 delegates at the convention, that does not bode well for us. That is what we are supposed to be doing. How did this happen?

So, assuming that Romney gets away with the majority of

delegates...is this an opportunity to scare the Santorum supporters into working with us to block out Romney's delegates everywhere else in the country? Santorum's already said to do just that in Washington State.

Very true. Teaming up with

Very true. Teaming up with Romney is only helping Romney. Teaming up with Santorum is helping us and hurting Romney.
