Was Martin V. Hunter an actual case? If so, what was the reaction when the case was sent back to the Supreme Court?

Martin v. Hunter

Yes Martin was an actual case. When it went back to the Supreme Court, that court upheld it's earlier mandate ordering the Virginia court to reverse itself. But the Virginia court refused once again, and the Supreme Court took no further action by way of contempt or otherwise.
