NH Ad Spending
Submitted by valleyforge on Mon, 01/07/2008 - 16:21
Politico reports Paul has spent a fraction of what McCain, Romney, and Guiliani have on WMUR TV ads.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0108/7764_Page2.html
Romney 3.6 million
McCain 1 million
Guiliani 1 million
Paul 270k
Huckabee 160k
Is anyone else surprised by this?

NH has passed, so what's next?
I don't understand why far more money wasn't thrown into NH advertising, but since it's too late to change that, is there any word on where the campaign is focusing resources next? Broadcasting some radio ads in 10 states is nice, but that's not going to win any one state. Is there, for instance, a plan to dump a few million into SC, NV, or FL?
For those who thinks the campaign is being frugal and waiting until Feb 5th, I have news for you: if Paul doesn't win something before then he's not going to win anything on Feb 5th. The campaign knows this, so what's the strategy after NH?
2nd or an outright win is manadatory before Feb 5,
I have long held that Nevada and Maine are best chances for that, so I agree, sew seeds in states running up to Feb 5, definitely.
And we must remember, that at least half of the Doc's 200,000 donors are not activists, and not immune to a series of 4th or 5th place finishes, and therefore, not automatic re-givers. Spending now also helps to keep those 100k supporters pumped up.

The first 5 million supporters of Dr. Paul are 'early adopters.' The next 10 million will require a modified approach.
Surprised? Yes and no...
Ron isn't going to make a hypocrite out of himself on spending. He has the money, but he's also got principles. I think that the first ad he has on radio is to introduce himself to the vast pool of listeners, and then he will do more ads that introduce his status. You wouldn't go directly to dessert if you were eating a 3-course meal at a fancy diner, would you?
I think he's going at it a very smart way, although, I think he can afford to put some big bucks out there to get his name out... No MSM voter knows his name and that's sad. He needs to beef up his campaign but for now I think he's going at it well.
3rd in the NH poll is VERY good for not spending that much money.
Direct Mail
Don't forget the $$$$ that was spent on putting together the wonderful direct mail piece that is either 8 or 12 pages I believe and was sent to many people in New Hampshire. Other campaigns did not all do this.
On second thoughts...
... as long as he hangs in there... he'll have the firing power to overwhelm the others when they've shot their bolts... we'll know tomorrow...
Plano TX
Strategy?
I assume his strategy is to wait until Florida has passed and Rudy/Fred will probably take a hike. Then with just Huckabee, Romney, McCain and himself he can kick in, spending a lot of his money we have donated.
If, IF, Rudy does indeed drop after Florida this could work wonders for President Paul. If not, we may be in a bit of trouble for waiting too long.
I'm sure there is a strategy.
Lets not forget
RP is an economic genius. I think if anyone can spend their money strategically it's RP.

This is insane. Dr. Paul
This is insane. Dr. Paul has tons of money and much more would come if he does well in New Hampshire. I was recently in Boston visiting one of my friends and he told me that he never sees Ron Paul commercials but does see everybody else (they get New Hampshire stations). What's going on?!?
Which ads?
Which ads ran, who lives there?
Please tell me the eLiberty ad ran in NH. If not, why not, can it only be run through a PAC? And if so, why have I not heard of an e-Lib chip-in? Did the J Black ads run with their chip-in?
Anybody have answers? As an involved and generous grassroots, it is valuable and proper for us to know.

Message and name MIA
Here near NH
1) RP name is not getting out.
2) RP real message 1) ending war and 2) economy is not getting out.
Data: Radio here has ads from every republican candidate---EXCEPT Ron Paul.
See official RP web page...see text of radio ads to go to MANY states.
NO MENTION of top 2 issues...How can this be?????
RP's message is simply not getting out....NEITHER is even his name.
Link radio ads set to go---without top 2 American Issues-- ending war and 2) bad economy with remedy

What, exactly, might "the campaign" be waiting for????
I will allow some limted effort in Iowa, but it is CRUCIAL we make an impact (THIRD or BETTER) in New Hampshire - the "Live FREE or Die" state.
Where are the "Bangs" for our "Bucks"?
We had better not get some desperate call for new funding soon. I wouldn't mind seeing what 20 million results in first.
(go ahead, get you "flags" out....."I tought I taw a puddy tat! I did! I DID!)

I think there are plans
in place from HQ. Ron is going to start getting attacked soon (when he starts showing well) and they need to plan on having resources available. Also, can we trust all these sources of the information that may be targeting RP supporters, trying to discourage and suppress his followers? Just a thought.

I'm surprised
Where did Mike find 160K?
On a serious note, its strange that Mitt would need to spend so much after having been the Gov. of a neighboring state.
From the article...
"All of these numbers are gross and include the commission taken by the media firm when applicable." (emphasis mine)
I'd like to see those commissions broken out.
Not surprised...
Please remember that Ron Paul is frugal and likes to look at the big picture, that is part of the reason we admire him.
Although New Hampshire is extremely important, Super Tuesday will require the campaign to be launching ad campaigns in something like 23 states simultaneously. Not to mention pre super Tueday are FL, MI and I think SC. When you combine this with the costs of production, as well as television commercials and print material and recorded phone messages, it becomes merely a fraction of an overall part of the publicity outreach that is taking place.

NH Ad Spending
No... not surprised considering who we're talking about here. But, I was looking at his fund raising on his website and since last night around 9:30 he's gotten another $25k in donations!! RP - it's time to get off the wallet!
Stunning.
I'm hoping that radio and direct mail was emphasized to make up for this as part of a clever strategy we haven't heard anything about.

Spend it
Seems like we have the money and can get more. Spend it!!!
I guess the plan is working.......
Ron Paul is not spending much money, and if he can keep hanging around while the media Titans slash each other up until they drop out, Ron can start spending money and come on strong when it gets down him and whoever else is left standing.......maybe not a bad idea.
alan laney
Yes, "Super Tuesday" will require every dollar he has.
But I still think investing a stronger result in NH might have been a good strategy, because nothing will inspire us and new supporters to send in even more money than a strong finish, or even a win, in one of these early states.

The plan is working
I read today in the WSJ that McCain is in REAL financial trouble if he doesn't win in NH. You may be right that it's better to keep some of the millions in reserve for the later primaries and try and build momentum. Also, Mitt is in trouble if he doesn't win here in Michigan. I hardly think the name recognition is going to do much for him here since his father was governor an awful long time ago.
