District Delegates Need Guidance!

Our District Conventions here in MN are only a couple of weeks away and the Ron Paul Campaign here seems non-existent. I'm trying to get some guidance regarding the convention but I have no idea what to expect. I got a letter in the mail with my registration for the convention, and it said that I need to contact the nominating commitee if I want to run as a National Delegate, and that I have to meet with them first. I have until the end of the week to do this. I don't know if I should run, because I'm assuming there is going to be a slate of RP supporters who we are all supposed to vote for, but I can't get ahold of anyone. My old contact with the campaign for the previous convention says he was 'let go' due to campaign downsizing, and he forwarded my email on to Marianne Stebbins who still hasn't gotten back to me. The phone number found for the campaign now has a message saying its the campaign for Washington.

Does anyone have any info that might be helpful to me at this point?

Maine State GOP Convention May 5&6...delegate names withheld...

Our Maine Caucus was Feb 4... Today we got the packet for the Maine GOP Convention... as of this moment we still don't have the list of Delegates... My mistake not making a copy of the list which voted 70% RP in my town and I think we have an even higher percentage of RP state Delegates. We need to be in touch with RP supporters... (Maine GOP stalling... our county chairwoman is irritated that list is not yet out... How can we have a county meeting before state convention... there are a lot of new Maine GOP folks...mostly RP supporters. I look forward to information on how to proceed... No reply from email to RP HQ in Maine... Suggestions? Thanks! -Bob

This guy might be able to help

Eric Goodrich was the guy running things in my area (Dakota county), and he seems to know what's up. Try contacting him and asking if he knows who to talk to in your district.

What CD are you in?

I spoke to Marianne as of yesterday as she is pretty busy with the BPOU's that just finished.

Send me a private message with your contact details and see how we can help you. I will be going next week to our district convention.

I went to mine and can say

We too went in somewhat blind. I mean, our Paul team here did do all of the things necessary to get all of our precinct delegates regestered and on the ballot. Not sure how they did all of that, but make sure you do. Maybe call the local GOP and discuss it. Someone or a few someone's need to be organizing all of that and making sure it happens.

At the convention, ours was large with probably 1500+ people in a convention center. The romney people had planned ahead, had obviously attended many caucus events. They took control of the meeting with their motions and well stated, convincing verbal argument to get their way in initial votes.

They will do that, and that kills us. In ours, we had just as many if not more Paul delegates from precincts there, yet were shut out. It can all be won or lost in the initial motions for chairperson and rules. Have to turn the tides there with wells spoken patriots who will stand up with a microphone convince santorum people and everyone else to not go along with the establishments efforts to railroad it for romney. Win those votes and it all swings our way.

There of course has to be a planned delegate slate that all Paul supporters must adhere to. That needs to be construed and distrubuted to focus the voting. If a deal is made with santorum, then once the romney people are shut out, turn on the santourm people....all is fair. Both campaigns have done the same to us and each other.

There is no doubt that going into your convention, you are poised as we were here to win it, like I said, it was lost for us in those initial arguments.

They argued to not replace the chair becuase the one they wanted was experienced and replacing the chair would slow the process down. They used in their verbal arguments the time issue a lot, you have to argue that back.....and scare the santorum people into they are going to get screwed if they go along with it. Even say you're a santorum and plead to your fellow santorum people. Whatever you have to do, don't let them win that arguement.

They also motioned for their set of rules to put in place, and simply won that vote by presenting their motion and arguing it well, with well spoken speakers taking the microphone, two people stood up for our side with feeble arguments adn shy voices....they won the vote to have their rules in place. The rest, other than in one precint where we teamed with santorum, romney people swept it all with their rules and their chairpeople and their slate of delegates distrubuted to romney santorum, and newt people.

Please don't let it happen there, be prepared to say what needs to be said to make it go our way!

Thank you very much...

We're not too worried about the Romney people here - there aren't many. It's the Santorum folks that will be our biggest obstacle.
I understand how they could take control of the proceedings, but how does that actually affect the election of the delegates? Did having a Romney chair directly lead to them getting more delegates somehow? I understand what you are saying, and I could see how that might affect the resolutions and such, but I'd like to gain a better understanding of the specifics, if you have the time.
I can be very sharp and articulate when I need to be, so even if I don't get on the slate, perhaps with enough preparation I could simply be a strong, well-informed voice.

Okay now that I've read up on what happened in ND

I can see how Romney people might still pose a problem...but in ND the votes were split much more evenly between the 3, it'll be harder for them to get away with here in MN, as long as they don't suck all the Santorum people into some sort of alliance. But how could any us ever stop that if they did?

Keep your spirits up by reminding yourself of the truth:

we can out-learn them. we can out-read them. we can out-think them. And we can out-philosophize them. And we're gonna outlast them. You think a couple whacks to our guts is gonna get us down? It's gonna take a hell of a lot more than that, Counselor, to prove they're better than us!

Thanks

I was able to get through to someone at that number. Didn't get any specific info since it was the general campaign number, but she promised she'd pass my info along so someone could contact me. We'll see...

Here is the MN RP meetup group

http://www.meetup.com/Ron-Paul-Republicans/

It seems there are a lot of supporters on that page so if you join and add a discussion or attend one of the meetups hopefully it will help.

Thanks -

It doesn't seem to be real active at the moment but I'll give it a shot.
