The Berkeley Chapter of Students for Liberty helped co-ordinate this event --- It could not have been easy and Students for Liberty and people just like them in the other cities did a helluva job. Thank you all!

My guess on audience size is comparative; like the other events it's not possible to know a hard number. The Berkeley audience was perhaps roughly the size of Chico and Madison. I really haven't seen enough to know for sure.

It was not as big as UCLA. For now, BRUINS RULE!

Video: (:37 sec)At UC Berkeley 48 years ago, Mario Savio delivered a speech about The Machine. A speech much like what Ron Paul will deliver tonight.

America Needs to Stand Tall (and Vote for Ron Paul) Song Recorded by Ken Suitter - 1 of the 2 RP supporters arrested in St. Charles, MO.

May 4, 1970, National Guard troops killed 4 people at Kent State.

Nationwide, students went on strike, closing hundreds of colleges and high schools. They were protesting illegal, immoral war and the expansion of that undeclared war into Cambodia.

President Nixon was removed from Washington, D.C., for security reasons.

Reflecting on it later, Neil Young wrote the song:Ohio (music video here)

40 years ago Ohio said what Ron Paul says today.

Ohio (lyrics here) asks "How can you run when you know?":

In recent days, thousands stood with Ron Paul-- in Madison, in Chico and last night in Los Angeles.

Ohio issues a call to action:"Gotta get down to it, soldiers are cutting us down, should have been done long ago."

40 years later Ron Paul calls us to action!

Gotta get down to it. We don't run!

Today, thousands stand with Ron Paul in the Bay Area.

There's no way to stop an idea whose time has come.

Any Pictures?

Are there any pictures from lines or crowds? I want to compare to the UCLA event I went to yesterday!

Got 1 up

Start from the top of the page for Updates: I've just got one up so far

The location of the event has been moved to MEMORIAL GLADE. It's a grassy area OUTSIDE the Doe Library. I've included a map. The address on the event brite site is somewhat confusing.

OH NO

not the grassy knoll area near the book building.

No problem

But sound the alarm if you see any tramps!

Is The 'Berkely Barb' Still In Print?

If you wanted to read an interesting rag back in the 60' and 70', the BERKELY BARB was it...

The Flower Children grew up in and around "BERSERKELY"

"vote real change"

i like that! (seen on flyer "any means necessary")

I'm kinda pissed

Who should I be pissed at? Jesse Benton? He is the campaign manager, or at least that's his title. When it was clear that the event was at capacity and we likely wouldn't be getting in, we changed our plans. Now we hear that the venue has been changed at the last moment, far too late to make the three hour plus trip up the coast. I'm well past weary of the Mickey Mouse way the campaign does things. The larger venue should have been booked in the first place, not at the last moment.

Ron Paul is the man, this family supports him 100%, with our money, our time and our votes, and that isn't going to change. I just can't help but wonder sometimes if the campaign is really in it to win it or just working to advance a cause. And yes, in my mind they are NOT the same thing.

Fundraising Luncheon

The campaign staff were probably busy selling out the luncheon in San Francisco today.

Give them a break.

Further, I'm sure it's a group at UCBerkeley that is hosting and making arrangements: they knew by last night that UCLA was a big event, and probably had to apply for permission (DUH) from the state of CA educational bureaucracy (DUH) which took some time and paperwork DUH!

Oh, and I'm about half an hour away, but I'm not going because he has my vote, so I'm letting someone new to the movement have my seat. I saw him speak in person (much more intimately) in the 1990's.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

it is a small student group

Like any group, that means one or so people do all the work.

It's Students for Liberty (Berkeley chapter).

It's one leader for them who had to work out all the details on the very last minute total change in venue.

That's a tough job, and it doesn't pay.

You are making my point for me.

Why is a small student group (God bless em') doing the heavy lifting for what is supposed to be a serious national campaign for the highest office in the nation?

πολλα γαρ πταιομεν απαντες ει τις εν λογω ου πταιει ουτος τελειος ανηρ δυνατος χαλιναγωγησαι και ολον το σωμα

I understand

Believe me I do.

I've also ranted about it elsewhere.

This isn't the time or place for that :)

Many of us are frustrated when we see after the fact what might have been.

I do understand; I share your concerns.

You are right, it can be done better and it is a legitimate complaint to make about the way the campaign co-ordinates and runs things.

However, let's look at the positive...we've just had some very good events AND the campaign deserves credit, not just criticism.

It's like the football coach...when he wins he's god but lose a game and he's gotta be fired NOW.

LOL, we've only got the one candidate, and I don't want to try and hire a new coach at this stage.

Nothing and no one is perfect.

Point taken

and while very encouraged by the recent numbers Dr. Paul has been drawing to these events, my frustration remains. But I hear you John. : )

πολλα γαρ πταιομεν απαντες ει τις εν λογω ου πταιει ουτος τελειος ανηρ δυνατος χαλιναγωγησαι και ολον το σωμα

You fake or something?

Here to stir up the "Ron Paul doesn't wanna be president, but wants to get out a message" that the media claims? Or do you have to have Ron Paul come to you himself and say he is in this to win the presidency? Get real dude.

Yeah man, I'm fake

Gandhi comes to town and I miss it because his idiot handlers lack the foresight to pick a large enough venue. Since I helped buy his plane ticket, I'm a little put off, sorry if that's too difficult for you to rap your paranoid little head around there boo boo buddy.

πολλα γαρ πταιομεν απαντες ει τις εν λογω ου πταιει ουτος τελειος ανηρ δυνατος χαλιναγωγησαι και ολον το σωμα

Why?

This is bad news?? Events where the numbers are growing by thousands daily? This is not about us but rather Dr Paul winning this nomination. Personally I think that the Campaign has done fantastic considering the media blackout. When I watched the UCLA introduction and the roar of 7,800 Ron Paul supporters, it gave me chills and a huge smile! Are We Ready For the Ron Paul REVOLUTION? YES WE ARE AND GETTING STRONGER EVERY DAY!!

It's great news

The bad news is that there were even more of us who would have liked to attend, and could have attended, making this event even greater than it was. Here's a thought, double the size of this crowd and maybe the media is forced to cover it for a change, just sayin. Hats off to the student organizers, they did a good job by all accounts. Thumbs down to the campaign, they are not making Ron's job or ours any easier, IMO.

ytc's picture

Wow, your family was prepared to make the three hour plus trip

to hear Ron! So sorry that the organizers didn't change the venue early enough for you to be able to reschedule your plans.

In a way, though, I guess they had to wait and see if the weather cooperated before deciding to make it into an outdoor event.

I am SO thrilled for Berkeley, where FREE SPEECH movement started 48yrs ago. I dream for the days, when Berkeley becomes the epicenter, again, for the rise of a Left + Right coalition for pro-PEACE and pro-civil liberties groups.

Thank you

for not suggesting that I'm some kind of media plant. I'm just a very disappointed and frustrated guy that would have driven as far as I could have reasonably afforded to see the Greatest Statesman in modern American history do his thing. My problem is not with the student organizers, they did a super job. They even responded to my RSVP with two hours to spare, but it was too late for us, not their fault.
