Time for the Ron Paul Campaign to GROW UP or Drop Out & Run as A Third Party
BEFORE VOTING DOWN-PLEASE READ THE WHOLE POST
The Ron Paul campaign prides itself on its grass roots support.
This is a fine concept and lends legitimacy to the campaign.
Grass roots support and marketing works for the Grateful Dead and small businesses but it does not cut it for a national REVOLution-not if it intends to win the Republican nomination. (the question I address later is whether the RP campaign is barking up the wrong tree trying to get the Republican nomination)
It is appalling that the campaign which in large part prides itself on personal responsibility and that knows the MSM is corrupt and bought then turns into a collective of sniveling whiners when the MSM they detest doesn't cover them.
"we don't get any coverage" BOO HOO.
Whose fault is that?
A lot of it is the Ron Paul campaign's fault. You don't just issue press releases and expect reporters to cover your story. You have to cultivate relationships with reporters.
If you draw huge crowds to events and reporters don't show up and cover the story you'd better have your own top notch videographer and film editor on staff to produce a record of the events so your press people can get the videos in the hands of key reporters to stir interest and coverage.
Don't expect the grass roots to be able to produce top notch media quality videos with their handheld iphones. And don't expect reporters to troll You tube for cool grainy Ron Paul videos.
Complaining about lack of coverage is not an effective strategy to get coverage. You need to work to get it. Not everyone loves Ron Paul or his message like we do. Indeed many are unaware of it.
We may all find it endearing that Ron Paul takes to the stage with out notes and then talks for an hour about common themes-federal reserve, raw milk,liberty, gold, income tax, sound money, cut a trillion dollars, silver, etc in no apparent order.
HOWEVER, the press can't follow the ramblings of the good doctor. A pre release of at least the talking points that RP is going to cover would help. Better yet highlight and save for these large crowd events major new proposals that RP is going to make-cut a trillion dollars, introduce new legislation to repeal a bill etc.
Allowing Ron Paul to go on stage and talk about whatever he wants and risk not being heard because you changed the venue from indoors and weren't prepared to have adequate acoustics for an out door event (as happened last night in Berkeley)is not the hallmark of a campaign that is up to the task to win.
If the RP campaign want to win the Republican nomination, then it must up its campaign game and not leave it all to the grass roots.
If, however, the Ron Paul campaign is not willing to play the game and believes it needs to operate outside of the system as it knows all the current systems -banking, media, republican party- are corrupt and working against them and doesn't want to play by their rules, then the choice is clear- Grow up, stop complaining and RUN AS A THIRD PARTY.
Run as a third party and formally eschew the MSM;
Run as a third party and help bring down the corrupt two party system who both support the welfare/warfare state and the Federal Reserve that helps pay for it all;
Run as a third party and rely solely on grass roots support.
Many people who support Ron Paul for his anti-establishment views can't get themselves to register as republicans to vote for him.
Run as a third party and gain these voters' support.
A third party run, while it would face many obstacles, would place Ron Paul in the position of clearly being the leader of the REVOLution.
