What would it take for Ron Paul to endorse Romney?

TAMPA, April 7, 2012 – GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney continues to win primaries and Ron Paul still won’t go away.

Part of the reason is that the Paul campaign understands the primary process and knows a little history. Romney’s support is lukewarm, while Paul’s actual delegate total is dramatically understated.

As Robert Wenzel points out, Paul is a lot like Warren Harding. Harding went into the brokered 1920 convention with only 6% of the delegates, but emerged as the party’s nominee. Harding won the general election in a landslide and took a very non-interventionist approach to the Depression of 1921.

Free market economists cite Harding’s refusal to intervene in that crisis for the quick recovery that followed.

So, there is no reason not to take Ron Paul at his word when he says that he is still in the contest to win the nomination. Still, speculation persists that he has made a deal with Romney for an eventual endorsement.

In return, Paul would get a speaking slot at the convention, consideration for his son Rand, or concessions in the party platform.

Both Paul and Romney have repeatedly denied this. Paul acknowledges that he is open to talk to the other candidates and that Romney, a personal friend, is easier to talk to. However, anyone who believes Ron Paul will simply endorse the nominee in exchange for political favors doesn’t understand Ron Paul or his Revolution.

Great article!

Us diehard supporters take a look at the title and blow up like a puffer fish at the thought of Paul selling out (hehehe) but it wasn't meant for us.

Nice job. Hopefully some Romney people will actually read it & the puffer fish won't scare them all off :)

Ron Paul would have to

Ron Paul would have to witness the founding fathers along with Jesus Christ performing an exorcism on Romney. On second thought he still probably wouldn't endorse him.

What would it take Ron Paul to endorse Woodrow Wilson?

Same question...

This is a stupid question.

You wrote: "What would it take for Ron Paul to endorse Romney?"

I'm guessing it would take some kind of severe brain damage. This is either a very stupid question or it is the most poorly worded title in the history of titles!

I think you should read the article

Too different

Ron Paul is just using Romney to get the other guys out of the way.

that is funny!

Call me a trekkie nerd, but I laughed at this one.

Did you read the whole article or are you just responding to the title?

the title, hanging head

Just a little word association. However, I've written similarly themed posts and comments here and there, saying that Ron Paul is the real thing - not a manipulative politician that we've been conditioned to accept.

Where is the unbearded Bernanke universe?

Can we arrange a swap?

What would it take?

It would take for hell to freeze over. That was easy.

I think Paul's supporters

I think Paul's supporters would consider an endorsement of Romney a betrayal. That is why the rumor was floated in the first place - it raises doubts in the minds of those who believe Paul is sincere about his message.

Speaking slots are not won, they are paid for. That is how an unknown state legislator from Illinois got a speaking slot at the Democratic Convention in 2004 - his handlers bought it.

It is also highly likely that

It is also highly likely that Warren Harding was assassinated.

Why would he?

He didn't endorse McCain. When I took the PCO position in my precinct, I told them upfront I would not be supporting McCain. I voted for Baldwin since Ron Paul was not on the ballot, and they do not count write in ballots in WA.

Romney would have to make Ron VP and then pledge to step down first day in office and let ron run the show.

ROMNEY is very flexible and his feet haven't landed on solid

ground -yet. IF Mitt were to call a press conference and publically confess that he's had it wrong all along. That he realizes now that the CONSTITUTION absolutely matters, and He will forever from here on out uphold and defend it--- then Ron would endorse Mitt for congress or offer him the job of committee chairman for the committee to dismantle and close THE FED. ----There I go again --dreamin out loud!

With all due respect, I will no longer be a voting prostitute for Constitution rejecting harlots.

But first ...

... Romney must pass a written exam on the Constitution, which exam will be crafted by the Good Doctor himself. Romney will be allowed 24 hours to review the Constitution, just to be fair.

Bulletin: The Honorable Dr Paul

will not be endorsing Romney in this life or any other. Ron claims the man has some dignity on a personal level but politically...no thank you!

Why do people keep harping on this? He doesn't need Romney and the baggage he would bring. Romney however, sure as tyranny is here needs Dr Paul.

It is the official campaign itself that is talking about favors

that is political favors in exchange for a public endorsement of Romney. So, are you saying Paul's own GOP staff doesn't understand him or the revolution?

A personal friend with Romney is like being friends with Bernanke or Dick Cheney or Bush or Goldman Sachs CEO - now a sane person would expect backstabbing and betrayal or co-opting to occur with people like that.

Paul Endorsement of Romney Could Happen

I could see Ron Paul endorsing Romney as his Secretary of the Department of Education. Or maybe even as his director of the Department of the Interior or HUD. Ron wouldn't let him anywhere near Treasury, Defense, and State, and VP is right OUT.

Yeah, that's the ticket!

It'd be pretty kewl for Dr. Paul to endorse Obamney as a director of any of those Fed agencies, since all of those Fed agencies are going to get fired anyway, once President Paul is elected.

Freedom is my Worship Word!

would be enough for Ron Paul to endorse Oromney. Stop being silly with posting these topics. Ron Paul made it very clear recently on National TV that he didn't ever think it was a consideration and is not in his agenda. He doesn't even want to vote for any of them. Now please get the facts straight and move on to more important things.

Keepin' it real.

~Your perception becomes your reality~

Doesn't Matter

Here is how I like to describe it.

I'm a man of reason. I know that 2+2=4. I support Ron Paul only because he recognizes 2+2=4.

Now the other GOP candidates say 2+2=2. Obama says 2+2=-4.

I can't back anyone that doesn't acknowledge reality. Am I supposed to vote for someone that says 2+2=2 just because they are closer? Even if Ron Paul decides to back the other GOP candidates it just means he is now wrong. I just can't do it.

Also I see it as a speeding car heading towards a cliff. Obama is stepping on the gas. The other GOP's are arguing to take the foot off the gas. Ron Paul is wants to hit the brake.

With anyone besides Dr. Paul we are going over the cliff. At least if Obama and the socialists are in charge when we go over the cliff the blame will be put where it is deserved. If psudo-conservatives are in charge the media and public will think it's conservatism that failed and then after the collapse it will be pure socialism.

Great metaphor - and conclusion

Great metaphor - and conclusion. You are, indeed, a man of reason. Let us all redouble our efforts to see Dr. Paul through to the nomination and, ultimately, the Oval Office. What a wonderful day it would be to see him bring distinction and respect back to that setting!

What would it take for Ron Paul to endorse Romney??

That is easy to answer.

If romulanittney of the evil religion persecuting morman smitten by God empire's puppet were to quit the race today altogether, we could endorse his sense of doing the right thing for the future of America, and placing the better good of ALL the people of the world ABOVE the commands of his morman puppeteers and wall street backers. He would also warn us to beware of the growing evil in utah. Is this the home of the Beast machine?

THAT...is the ONLY reason to endorse ANYTHING that comes from this flip-flopney traitor to the constitution and American people.

You seem to have more issues with Mormons than you do with Romney himself.

Better lighten up buddy, 'cause there are plenty of us Mormons rootin' for Dr. Paul because his message resonates with Mormons strong belief in the Constitution as fostered by our Church and related beliefs.

Would you prefer to have us "Mormons" removed from Ron Paul's support base, because only you have the divine judgement to determine which religion, race, gender, or culture is worthy to support Dr. Paul?

Let me make this crystal clear--Church leaders do not back any party or candidate. So any so-called "Mormon puppeteers" are doing so on their own, and not sanctioned by the church, despite whatever second-hand hearsay you get your sources from.

To hell with a speaking slot.

The RNC will try to placate Dr. Paul with a speaking slot and then brush him away after pretending to care about his message.

The GOP just wants Paul to go away and they want US to vote for the stooge they shove down our throats.

Not going to happen with me.

What would it take?: Alzheimers or a gun

If Ron Paul lost tract of his great mental abilities, endorsing Romney would be a very real possibility. Alternatively, Romney could just ask Ron Paul to be on ticket stating that they would work out all of their differences later. After getting elected Ron Paul would either be assassinated or be taken ill and die prior to taking the oath of office. Romney is owned by the bankers. They are not about to let an uncompromising Constitutionalist like Ron Paul ever be the VP.

Great post

about Warren Harding having only 6% and winning the nomination. Delegates have total control of convention so if Paul has the majority, he wins.

Romney will have to have a 1400 delegate count before convention to even come close to locking up the Convention. This is going to be such an exciting GOP Convention, in that the MSM will have to eat crow in front of the whole world. They will be exposed for the liars they really are!

One thing to note about Harding,

He wasn't perceived as being at odds with the party, and had some inside connections with the GOP establishment at the time.
